Curcumin 3,4-dihydropyrimidinones/thiones/imines have been synthesized using one-pot cyclocondensation of curcumin with substituted aromatic aldehydes and urea/thiourea/guanidine in the presence of chitosamine hydrochloride as a biodegradable and nontoxic catalyst under solvent-free microwave *** synthesized product was purified by crystallization from ethanol and the process does not involve any hazardous *** the synthesized curcumin derivatives 4a-o were screened for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory *** activity data of the synthesized showed that most of the synthesized compounds exhibited greater antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity than curcumin.

Genome-wide gene expression analysis for target genes to differentiate patients with intestinal tuberculosis and Crohn’s disease and discriminative value of FOXP3 mRNA expression

The present work presents the basic elements of materials and design for a modular reactor system for the removal of heavy metals, organic materials, and pathogens from wastewater. The primary module employs photocatalytic TiO in packed helical tube form for the removal of organic materials and pathogens, which are decomposed to carbon dioxide and water. The secondary module employs similar materials but in packed bed form for the reduction of dissolved metal ions to the metallic state, which are removed from the photocatalysts by the reverse process. Additional tailored modules for alternative processes, such as sieving, filtration, ion exchange, and adsorption, can be added in series as required for the removal of site-specific water contaminants that require different or modified approaches. Both of the core modules are based on the UV irradiation of ceramic or polymeric beads decorated with TiO particles. The present work summarises the critical design parameters for the modules and the overall benefits of the use of this technology for wastewater treatment in natural, domestic, and industrial settings, the latter of which include coal washing, tailings ponds, and cooling water reservoirs. The system is designed to be applicable in most environments as it is solar powered, portable, robust, simple to operate and maintain, and relatively inexpensive.

AIM:To highlight various patterns of nodal involvement and post treatment changes in pediatric chest tuberculosis based on contrast enhanced computed tomography(CECT) scans of ***:This was a retrospective study consisting of 91 patients aged less than 17 years,who attended Paediatrics OPD of All India Institute of Medical Sciences with clinically diagnosed tuberculosis or with chest radiographs suggestive of chest *** patients had an initial chest radiograph as well as CECT of the chest and follow up imaging after 6 mo,and in some cases 9 mo,of completion of anti-tubercular treatment(ATT).CECT of these patients was reviewed for the location and extent of nodal involvement along with determination of site,size,enhancement pattern and ***:Enlargement of mediastinal or hilar lymph nodes was found in 88/91 patients(96.7%),with the most common locations being paratracheal(84.1%),and subcarinal(76.1%).The most common pattern of enhancement was found to be *** nodes were conglomerate in 56.8% and discrete in 43.2%.In addition,perinodal fat was obscured in 84.1% of *** the post-treatment scan,there was 87.4% reduction in the size of the *** nodes post-treatment were discrete and homogenous with perinodal fat *** was found both pre-and post-treatment,but there was an increase in incidence after treatment(41.7%).There was hence a reduction in size,change in enhancement pattern,and appearance of perinodal fat with ***:Tubercular nodes have varied appearance and enhancement *** and obscuration of perinodal fat suggest *** residual nodes decision to continue ATT requires clinical correlation.

Introduction: Non Communicable Diseases (NCD) has emerged as leading threat to mankind. It approximates to around 70% mortality burden worldwide. Its mortality burden is more in low & middle income countries. Most of the premature deaths from NCDs are attributed to modifiable risk factors. In Uttar Pradesh there has been a raise in prevalence of non-communicable diseases in the last two decades. Methodology: Mortality and morbidity data from 1st Jan 2014 to Dec 2016 was obtained from Medical Records Department, UPUMS, Saifai Etawah. The data, thus collected was analyzed by using SPSS 24. Results: Morbidity pattern in UPUMS Saifai reported Blindness and cardiovascular disease (CVD) was leading cause of admission and was increasing year after year. Road traffic acid (RTA), Stroke and CVD were the leading causes of mortality in last 3 years among the patients admitted in tertiary care hospital UPUMS, Saifai, Etawah, U.P., India. Conclusion: Even in rural area prevalence of NCD is at raising trend. RTA, CVD and Stroke were leading causes of death even in rural area.

In Search of Scrub Typhus: A Prospective Analysis of Clinical and Epidemiological Profile of Patients from a Tertiary Care Hospital in New Delhi

Introduction: Scrub typhus is a febrile illness caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi which is transmitted by the larval stage of trombiculid mites. It has varied manifestations ranging from mild disease to fatal illness. The classical manifestations include fever, rash, lymphadenopathy and eschar. Serology is the preferred diagnostic tool with indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) as the current gold standard. Material & Methods: A total of 229 clinically suspected cases of Scrub typhus from 15th of October 2013 to 15th of October 2015 were enrolled in the study. Clinical, epidemiological and laboratory data of the patients were collected and analysed. The method for diagnosis was IgM immunofluorescence assay. Results: A total of 33 cases (14.4%) of scrub typhus were detected. Most of the cases (87%) presented in the months of September to November. Fever of >39°C was seen in all 33 cases. Rash and eschar were seen in 24.2% and 18.2% cases, respectively. Lymphadenopathy (18.2%), hepatomegaly (48.5%), splenomegaly (21.2%) and icterus (15.2%) were seen in some cases. Pulmonary manifestations were noted in 69.7% of cases. Acute kidney injury (18.2%), encephalitis (21.2%), and myocarditis (15.15%) were the other complications observed. Common haematological abnormalities noted in patients of scrub typhus were anaemia (45.6%), leucocytosis (45.6%), thrombocytopenia (48.5%) and transaminitis (54.5%). 10 cases were treated by azithromycin while doxycycline was used for treatment in 28 cases. Conclusion: The nonspecific symptoms and lack of classical manifestations make the diagnosis of scrub typhus difficult. There is a definite need to increase awareness and heighten the suspicion, especially in the light of increasing number of patients presenting with atypical manifestations.

Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers were used to study the DNA polymorphism in Indian mungbean cultivars. A total of 60 random primers were used in the study and 33 of them generated reproducible RAPD patterns. Amplification of genomic DNA of most popular 24 Indian mungbean cultivars with these RAPD primers yielded 249 fragments that could be scored, of which 224 were polymorphic, with an average of 7.0 polymorphic fragments per primer. Number of amplified fragments with random primers ranged from 2 (OPI 9) to 17 (OPD 7). Percentage polymorphism ranged from 33% (OPX 5) to a maximum of 100% (OPX 4, OPX 6, OPX 13, OPX 15, OPX 19, OPD 5, OPD 7, OPD 20, OPI 4, OPI 6, OPI 13, OPI 14, OPI 18 and OPF 1), with an average of 90%. The Jaccard’s similarity indices based on RAPD profiles were subjected to UPGMA cluster analysis. And genotypes grouped in two major groups. Sixteen out of 24 released cultivars grouped to cluster I. This indicated the narrow genetic base in the Indian mungbean cultivars used in the study. The details of diversity analysis and possible reasons for narrow genetic base in mungbean cultivars are discussed in the present study.
