Educational Value of Doctor Trainee Em.loym.nts (“Student Doctor”) —A Questionnaire Study

Background: In Sweden, m.dical students can work as em.loyed doctor trainees under supervision during m.dical school breaks. The aim.of the present study was to evaluate the educational value of such em.loym.nts, as well as to com.are university and non-university positions. m.thod: A questionnaire was adm.nistered to all em.loyed doctor trainees at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Gothenburg, in 2003-2004 (n = 67) plus all students in last term.m.dical school 2005 who had had such a position inside or outside this university hospital (n = 43). The questionnaire included questions on trainee position/s, as well as statem.nts regarding the educational value. Result: 75 unique individuals returned a filled-in questionnaire (response rate: 78%). The respondents experienced the positions as valuable concerning gain in professional confidence (m.an ± standard deviation: 3.9 ± 1.1;1 = total disagreem.nt to 5 = total agreem.nt) and independence (3.9 ± 1.1), subsequent learning in m.dical school (4.3 ± 0.9), and future professional work (4.2 ± 1.0). The gain in professional confidence and independence was greater for those who had worked in a non-university hospital (n = 17) than in a university hospital (n = 29): 4.4 ± 0.6 vs. 3.6 ± 3.6, P = 0.011;4.3 ± 0.7 vs. 3.6 ± 1.1, P = 0.038. Conclusion: Em.loym.nt as a doctor trainee seem. to facilitate subsequent learning in m.dical school and enhance professional progress;the latter is particularly prom.nent in non-university hospitals.

Purpose, The present article was built on the assum.tion that the form.of an exam.nation m.y influence learning, and m.y also reflect different kinds of knowledge. The aim.of the study was to evaluate whether the results of an exam.nation differ when short answer questions (SAQ) or m.dified essay questions (m.Q) are used. m.thod, Forty-nine students in the internal m.dicine course in Gothenburg, Sweden, perform.d a written exam.nation in 2003, which included both SAQ and m.Q. Result, The correlation between the results of SAQ and m.Q was 0.59 (P m. students had poor results in either SAQ or m.Q. Conclusion, The general outcom. of the study indicates that results of SAQ and m.Q dem.nstrate a significant correlation. Background:Skeletal m.scle energetics decline with age,and physical activity(PA)has been shown to offset these declines in older ***,m.ny studies reporting these effects were based on self-reported PA or structured exercise ***,we exam.ned the associations of accelerom.try-m.asured and self-reported PA and sedentary behavior(SB)with skeletal m.scle energetics and explored the extent to which PA and sedentary behavior would attenuate the associations of age with m.scle ***:As part of the Study of m.scle,m.bility and Aging,enrolled older adults(n=879),810(age=76.4±5.0 years old,m.an±SD;58%wom.n)had m.xim.l m.scle oxidative capacity m.asured ex vivo via high-resolution re spirom.try of perm.abilized m.ofibers(m.xim.l oxidative phosphorylation(m.xOXPHOS))and in vivo by ^(31)phosphorus m.gnetic resonance spectroscopy(m.xim.l adenosine triphosphate(ATP_(m.x))).Accelerom.try-m.asured sedentary behavior,light activity,and m.derate-to-vigorous PA(m.PA)were assessed using a wrist-worn ActiGraph GT9X over 7 ***-reported sedentary behavior,m.PA,and all PA were assessed with the Com.unity Healthy Activities m.del Program.for Seniors(CHAm.S)*** regression m.dels with progressive covariate adjustm.nts evaluated the associations of sedentary behavior and PA with m.scle energetics,as well as the attenuation of the age/m.scle energetics association by m.P A and sedentary *** a sensitivity analysis,we also exam.ned activPAL-m.asured daily step count and tim. spent in sedentary behavior and their associations with m.scle ***:Every 30 m.n/day m.re of ActiGraph-m.asured m.PA was associated with 0.65 pm.l/(s×m.)higher m.xOXPHOS and 0.012 m./s higher ATP_(m.x)after adjusting for age,site/technician,and sex(pm.xOXPHOS or ATP_(m.x).m.anwhile,every 30 m.n/day spent in ActiGraph-m.asured sedentary behavior was associated with 0.39 pm.l/s×m. lower m.xOXPHOS and0.

The Blue Water Footprint of Extensive Beef Production on Sem.-Arid Rangeland over a Full Production Cycle in South Africa

Water plays a critical role in beef cattle production. Current m.thods used to estim.te the blue water footprint of beef cattle are largely based on generic values that do not m.ke provision for different production system. within different regions. Total production cycle m.asurem.nts should therefore be considered to accurately assess the blue water footprint of beef cattle grazing natural rangeland. The aim.of the study was to m.asure water intake of extensive Bonsm.ra cattle grazing m.rikana Thornveld over a full production cycle at the ARC-Roodeplaat Research Station. m.asurem.nts com.enced at weaning (June 2017) and continued until the heifers weaned their first calves at approxim.tely 210 days of age (July 2019). Water consum.tion differed between 21.4 litre per anim.l per day when the heifers were still growing to 54.3 litres during lactation, relating to between 6.7% and 12.0% of live weight. The blue water footprint over the total production cycle was calculated to be 27,147 litres.

Incidence and m.rtality of fem.le breast cancer in the AsiaPacific region

Objective: To provide an overview of the incidence and m.rtality of fem.le breast cancer for countries in the Asia-Pacific ***: Statistical inform.tion about breast cancer was obtained from.publicly available cancer registry and m.rtality databases(such as GLOBOCAN), and supplem.nted with data requested from.individual cancer registries. Rates were directly age-standardised to the Segi World Standard population and trends were analysed using joinpoint ***: Breast cancer was the m.st com.on type of cancer am.ng fem.les in the region, accounting for 18% of all cases in 2012, and was the fourth m.st com.on cause of cancer-related deaths(9%). Although incidence rates rem.in m.ch higher in New Zealand and Australia, rapid rises in recent years were observed in several Asian countries. Large increases in breast cancer m.rtality rates also occurred in m.ny areas, particularly m.laysia and Thailand, in contrast to stabilising trends in Hong Kong and Singapore, while decreases have been recorded in Australia and New Zealand. m.rtality trends tended to be m.re favourable for wom.n aged under 50 com.ared to those who were 50 years or older. Conclusion: It is anticipated that incidence rates of breast cancer in developing countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region will continue to increase. Early detection and access to optim.l treatm.nt are the keys to reducing breast cancerrelated m.rtality, but cultural and econom.c obstacles persist. Consequently, the challenge is to custom.se breast cancer control initiatives to the particular needs of each country to ensure the best possible outcom.s.

OBJECTIVE:To com.are the effects of a basic traditional Chinese diet with a Western standard diet on body m.ss index(Bm.),lean body m.ss(LBD),and eating and hunger ***:A sam.le of 284 patients were random.zed into 2 groups:group A(n = 142) followed a basic traditional Chinese diet(BCTD) and group B(n =142) followed a Western standard diet(WSD).Both diets were set at approxim.tely 1200 *** patients enrolled were com.ared before treatm.nt and 6 weeks after treatm.nt,and then follow-ups were m.de at 1 year and 5 ***:In the BCTD group,Bm. decreased by0.46 kg/m. and LBm.by 0.25 kg,versus respectively0.28 kg/m. and 0.41 kg in the WSD *** of eating self-assessm.nt,hunger m.asurem.nt and psychophysical indices of health were also in favour of the ***:Outcom.s show that the BCTD has a better effect on Bm. and LBm.as well as over the m.dium.long term.and provides stronger psychophysical support to obese patients.

m.gnetotactic bacteria(m.B),ubiquitous in soil and fresh and saltwater sources have been identified in the m.crobiom. of hum.ns and m.ny *** endogenously produce m.gnetic nanocrystals enabling them.to orient and navigate along geom.gnetic *** m.gnetite deposits have been found throughout the tissues of the hum.n brain,including brain regions associated with orientation such as the cerebellum.and hippocam.us,the origins of which rem.in *** over the role and source of m.B in hum.ns,as well as any association with the brain,rem.in *** perform.d a m.tagenom.c analysis of the gut m.crobiom. of 34 healthy fem.les as well as grey m.tter volum. analysis in m.gnetite-rich brain regions associated with orientation and navigation with the goal of identifying specific m.B that could be associated with brain structure in orientation and navigation *** identified seven m.B in the hum.n gut m.crobiom.:m.gnetococcus m.rinus,m.gnetospira ***-2,m.gnetospirillum.m.gneticum.m.gnetospirillum.***-1,m.gnetospirillum.***-1,m.gnetospirillum.gryphiswaldense,and Desulfovibrio *** prelim.nary results show significant negative associations between m.ltiple m.B with bilateral flocculonodular lobes of the cerebellum.and hippocam.us(adjusted for total intracranial volum.,uncorrected Pm.B in the gut are associated with grey m.tter volum. in m.gnetite-rich brain regions related to orientation and *** prelim.nary findings support m.B as a potential biogenic source for brain m.gnetite in *** studies will be necessary to validate and elucidate the relationship between these bacteria,m.gnetite concentrations,and brain function.
