Plant anatomy is patterned early during leaf development which suggests studying the spatial–temporal transcriptomes of primordia will help identify critical regulative and functional *** successfully isolated the leaf primordia tissues from the C3grass rice and the C4grass foxtail millet by laser capture microdissection(LCM)and studied the gene expression throughout leaf developmental *** data analysis uncovered the conserved expression patterns of certain gene clusters both in rice and foxtail millet during leaf *** revealed genes and transcription factors involved in vein formation,stomatal development,and suberin *** identified 79 candidate genes associated with functional regulation of C4anatomy *** phenotype of the candidate genes revealed that knock-out of a putative polar auxin transport related gene NAL1 resulted significantly reduced veinal space in rice *** present work provides a foundation for future analyses of genes with novel functions in grasses and their role in leaf development,in particular the role in leaves with a contrasting C3vs.C4biosynthetic pathway.

Retrieval of Thin-Ice Thickness(TIT)using thermodynamic modeling is sensitive to the parameterization of the independent variables(coded in the model)and the uncertainty of the measured input *** article examines the deviation of the classical model’s TIT output when using different parameterization schemes and the sensitivity of the output to the ice ***,it estimates the uncertainty of the output in response to the uncertainties of the input *** parameterized independent variables include atmospheric longwave emissivity,air density,specific heat of air,latent heat of ice,conductivity of ice,snow depth,and snow *** input parameters include air temperature,ice surface temperature,and wind *** the independent variables,the results show that the highest deviation is caused by adjusting the parameterization of snow conductivity and depth,followed ice *** sensitivity of the output TIT to ice thickness is highest when using parameterization of ice conductivity,atmospheric emissivity,and snow conductivity and *** retrieved TIT obtained using each parameterization scheme is validated using in situ measurements and satellite-retrieved *** in situ measurements,the uncertainties of the measured air temperature and surface temperature are found to be *** resulting uncertainties of TIT are evaluated using perturbations of the input data selected based on the probability distribution of the measurement *** results show that the overall uncertainty of TIT to air temperature,surface temperature,and wind speed uncertainty is around 0.09 m,0.049 m,and−0.005 m,respectively.

Tetraploid fish are important for mass production of triploids in polyploid *** this study,we reported a novel protocol for artificial induction of tetraploidy by a combination of cold shock and hydrostatic pressure administered to gynogenetically developed eggs in Japanese flounder Paralichthys *** induction was carried out by activating the eggs with UV-irradiated sperm of red sea bream Pagrus major,administering a cold shock(0℃,5 to 45 min)3 min after fertilization to inhibit second polar body exclusion,incubating the eggs for 60 min at 17℃,and treating them with a 650 kg/cm2 hydrostatics pressure shock for 6 *** named the embryos gyno-tetraploids that developed from eggs after such *** hatching rate of the gyno-tetraploids ranged from 20.99%±3.66%to 36.01%±2.79%,and the tetraploid rate ranged from 80.00%to 100.00%.All-maternal inheritance was verified using 6 high-recombination-rate microsatellite *** method successfully induced *** successful induction of gyno-tetraploidy lays the foundation for triploidization of new varieties with improved economic traits of interest that can benefit commercial culture.

Methane flux from the ornithogenic soils was preliminarily measured by closed chamber method on Xi-sha atoll, South china Sea during March 10 to April 11, 2003 for the first time. The CH4 flux ranged from - 226.7 μg/（m^2 ·h） to 226.3 μg/（m^· h） at the observation sites on Dong Island. High atmospheric CH4 consumption was observed from the ornithogenic soils on sunny days. CH4 uptake rates showed the highest value after the midday and they had a strong positive correlation with soil temperatures. Under the same weather conditions, the CH4 fluxes were also observed from the intact and disturbed soils on Yongxing Island. Results showed that the intact soils with natural vegetation also showed high atmospheric CH4 consumption and the average flux was - 141.8 μg/（ m^2· h）. However, disturbed soils via anthropogenic reclamation showed CH4 emissions and the average flux was 441 .7 μg/（ m^2· h）. Therefore land use changes may have an important effect on the CH4 fluxes from the tropical ornithogenic soils. In addition, different observation sites show a high spatial variation in CH4 fluxes. The wetland in salt marsh showed the CH4 emission on Dong Island, and the dry soil sites all showed high atmospheric CH4 consumption, suggesting that CH4 fluxes were predominantly controlled by soil water regime. The effects of soil chemical properties on CH4 fluxes were also analyzed and discussed in this paper.

Salidroside(8-O-β-D-glucoside of tyrosol),a plant-derived natural product,is used for treatment of hypoxia,fatigue and aging *** availability of salidroside is restricted since it is extracted from3-5 years old Rhodiola roots,which grow very slowly in the cold region of northern hemisphere of *** laboratory has constructed an engineered Escherichia coli and established a fermentation process to produce salidroside from *** this article,nine macroporous resins from polarity to non-polarity,including NKA-9,S-8,AB-8,SP825,D101,LSA-8,LX-12,LX-18 and LX-68 resins,were tested to separate salidroside from fermentation *** static and dynamic experiments,the weakly polar SP825 resin had a better separation efficiency among nine *** adsorption kinetic and isotherm of salidroside on the SP825 resin were determined,and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir model could be fitted *** effects of the pH on adsorption and ethanol concentration on desorption were investigated,and an optimal separation process was *** adsorption for salidroside in the SP825 resin column was conducted with loading 150 ml at pH 7,and desorpted by washing 50 ml of80%ethanol *** the best process conditions,the purity and yield of salidroside in the final product were 91.6%and 74.0%,*** results showed that the macroporous SP825 resin would be feasible and effective to prepare salidroside and has promising application in the downstream process of microbial fermentation.

We report the discovery of a peculiar X-ray transient,EP240408a,by Einstein Probe （EP） and follow-up studies made with EP,Swift,NICER,GROND,ATCA and other ground-based multiwavelength *** new transient was first detected with Wide-field X-ray Telescope （WXT） on board EP on April 8th,2024,manifested in an intense yet brief X-ray flare lasting for *** flare reached a peak flux of 3.9×10-9erg cm-2s-1in 0.5-4 keV,300 times brighter than the underlying X-ray emission detected throughout the *** and more precise follow-up observations by EP/FXT,Swift and NICER confirmed the finding of this new *** X-ray spectrum is non-thermal in 0.5-10 keV,with a power-law photon index varying *** X-ray light curve shows a plateau lasting for4d,followed by a steep decay till becoming undetectable10 d after the initial *** on its temporal property and constraints from previous EP observations,an unusual timescale in the range of 7-23 d is found for EP240408a,which is intermediate between the commonly found fast and long-term *** counterparts have been found in optical and near-infrared,with the earliest observation at 17 h after the initial X-ray detection,suggestive of intrinsically weak emission in these *** demonstrate that the remarkable properties of EP240408a are inconsistent with any of the transient types known so far,by comparison with,in particular,jetted tidal disruption events,gamma-ray bursts,X-ray binaries and fast blue optical *** nature of EP240408a thus remains an *** suggest that EP240408a may represent a new type of transients with intermediate timescales of the order of10 *** detection and follow-ups of more of such objects are essential for revealing their origin.

A novel alpha function for Peng-Robinson equation of state was proposed and generalized with acentric factor and dipole moment for predicting thermodynamic properties of non-polar,weakly polar,and polar *** parameters of new alpha function were fitted with vapor pressures of 70 *** different methods were investigated for the correlation of parameters of new alpha function and Heyen alpha *** generalized new alpha function passed the consistency *** results indicated that the predictive accuracy of generalized new alpha function and generalized Heyen alpha function was improved for the estimation of vapor pressure of 11 kinds of compounds,with the average relative deviations(ARDs)being 2.60%and 2.76%.The ARDs of the two generalized alpha functions were 2.04%and 2.09%for the enthalpy of ***,the generalized new alpha function and the other alpha functions had great deviations for the prediction of liquid volumes and isobaric heat *** alpha function that was generalized with acentric factor and reduced dipole moment was more accurate than that was generalized with acentric factor,especially for the prediction of vapor pressure and enthalpy of vaporization of polar compounds.

System-size effect on the friction at liquid-solid interfaces

The friction at the liquid-solid interfaces is widely involved in various phenomena ranging from nanometer to micrometer scales. By the molecular dynamic(MD)simulation, the friction properties of liquid-solid interfaces at the molecular level are calculated via the Green-Kubo relation. It is found that the system size will influence the value of the friction coefficient, especially for the solid surfaces with the larger polar charge. The value of the friction coefficient decreases with the increase in the system size and converges at large system sizes. The large polar charge will lead to a significant friction coefficient. However, the diffusion of water molecules on this surface is almost a constant, indicating that the diffusion coefficient seems to be independent of the system size and polar charge. This work provides insights for the selection of the system size in modeling the frictional properties of hydrophobic/hydrophilic surfaces.

We theoretically and experimentally show that,with water being adsorbed,the graphene oxide(GO)is converted to a spontaneously dynamic covalent material under ambient conditions,where the dominated epoxy and hydroxyl groups are mediated by water molecules to spontaneously break/reform their C–O bonds to achieve dynamic oxygen *** dynamic material presents structural adaptivity for response to biomolecule *** density functional theory calculations and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations demonstrate that this spontaneously dynamic characteristics is attributed to the adsorption of water molecules,which sharply reduces the barriers of these oxygen migration reactions on GO to the level less than or comparable to the hydrogen bonding energy in liquid water.
