The book is divided into two parts. The first is designed to help the reader evaluate and understand a child with cerebral palsy. It deals with neurological control, musculoskeletal growth, and normal gait, as well as cerebral injury, growth deformities and gait pathology in children with cerebral palsy. The second section is a comprehensive overview of management. It emphasizes the most fundamental concept of treatment: manage the child's neurologic dysfunction first and then address the skeletal and muscular consequences of that dysfunction. The book has been thoroughly updated since the previous edition, with a greater focus on treatment and several entirely new topics covered, including chapters on the operative treatment of orthopaedic deformities. The thermodynamic behavior of lead in Cu-Fe matte was investigated using a transportation technique where argon gas was bubbled into a bath of copper matte containing approximately 100 ppm lead at temperatures between 1300 and 1400°*** effect of flow rate,temperature and matte grade were investigated on the lead transport from a bath containing 100 grams of synthetic copper matte to the gas *** concentration of lead in the bath was followed with *** argon flow rates between 3 l h-1 and 18 l h-1,it was observed that the concentration change of lead in the matte was found to follow a first order relationship where the calculated concentration at time t,is of the form:[Pb ]= a.e-b.t where a is equal to the initial lead content in ppm,[Pb ] i,and b is an exponential term and t is time in *** partial pressure of lead species in the gas phase was calculated from the concentration changes in the matte and from the bubbling gas *** gas flow rates between 3 and 9 l h-1,the lead removal appeared to be under equilibrium *** higher gas flow rates,the apparent rate decreased,mainly due to splashing of matte into the cold zone of the *** these experiments with Ar as the carrier gas,the sulphur and oxygen partial pressures of the melt were not *** analysis of the major components in the matte showed only random variation with bubbling time,and so a thermodynamic solution model for copper matte was used to calculate the equilibrium sulphur pressure *** this approach the proportion of Pb,PbS and Pb 2 species in the gas could be calculated knowing the relevant reaction constants,e.g.:PbS（g） = Pb（g） + S 2（g） From the proportions of the lead species in the gas,the value of the lead activity coefficient with respect to the gas state could be *** a 50% copper matte,it was found that the activity coefficient increased with temperature,from a value of 0.8 at 1300°C to 1.4 at 1400°*** the white metal composition,

The Seventh International Dyke Conference （IDC7） was hosted by the State Key Laboratory of Lithospheric evolution, Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in Beijing on August 18-20, 2016. Approximately 140 participants from 19 countries of all inhabited continents attended the meeting. 133 selected abstracts published in Acta Geologica Sinica （Vol 90, Supp 1） are representative of the range of recent advances in the field. The IDCs are the highest-ranked international conferences on dyke research （including geological, geophysical and geochemical aspects）. IDC7 continued the every-5-year tradition started in Mississauga （near Toronto） Canada in 1985, that was inspired by the classic paper of Halls （1982） .

BACKGROUND Depression and anxiety were both ranked among the top 25 leading causes of global burden of diseases in 2019 prior to the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)*** pandemic affected,and in many cases threatened,the health and lives of millions of people across the globe and within the first year,global prevalence of anxiety and depression increased by 25%with the greatest influx in places highly affected by *** To explore the psychological impact of the pandemic and resultant restrictions in different countries using an opportunistic sample and online questionnaire in different phases of the *** A repeated,cross-sectional online international survey of adults,16 years and above,was carried out in 10 countries(United Kingdom,India,Canada,Bangladesh,Ukraine,Hong Kong,Pakistan,egypt,Bahrain,Saudi Arabia).The online questionnaire was based on published approaches to understand the psychological impact of COVID-19 and the resultant *** standardised measures were included to explore levels of depression[patient health questionnaire(PHQ-9)],anxiety[generalized anxiety disorder(GAD)assessment],impact of trauma[the impact of events scale-revised(IeS-R)],loneliness(a brief loneliness scale),and social support(The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social support).ReSULTS There were two rounds of the online survey in 10 countries with 42866 participants in Round 1 and 92260 in Round *** largest number of participants recruited from the United Kingdom(112985 overall).The majority of participants reported receiving no support from mental health services throughout the *** study found that the daily cumulative COVID-19 cases had a statistically significant effect on PHQ-9,GAD-7,and IeS-R *** scores significantly increased in the second round of surveys with the ordinary least squares regression results with regression discontinuity design specification(to control lockdown effects)confirming these ***

Statins and Metformin Use Is Associated with Lower PSA Levels in Prostate Cancer Patients Presenting for Radiation Therapy

Background: A possible association between the level of prostate specific antigen (PSA) and the use of some commonly prescribed medications has been reported in recent studies. Most of these studies were carried out in general populations of men who were screened for prostate cancer using the PSA test. We reported on the association between the initial PSA level and the use of statins, metformin and alpha-blockers in patients who were diagnosed with prostate cancer and presented for radiation therapy. Methods: Three hundred and eighty one patients treated between the years of 2000-2005 and 2009-2012 were included in this retrospective study. The information about statin, metformin and alpha-blockers use was recorded immediately prior to treatment. Differences in PSA levels prior to treatment by medication status were estimated using univariate and multivariate linear regression on log PSA values. Results: Compared with men who were not on these medications, the PSA level at presentation was 20% lower for statin users (p = 0.002) and 33% lower for metformin users (p = 0.004). We did not observe statistically significant associations between the use of statins or metformin and cancer stage, National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) risk score, or therapy outcome. A statistically significant association between the NCCN risk score and the use of alpha-blockers was observed (p = 0.002). Conclusions: We found that statins and metformin were associated with lower PSA levels in prostate cancer patients to an extent that could influence management decisions. We found no statistically significant associations between the use of these medications and treatment outcomes.

Anthropogenic manipulation of finite resources on the landscape to benefit individual species or communities is commonly employed by conservation and management agencies. One such action in arid regions is the construction and maintenance of water developments （i.e., wildlife guzzlers） adding free water on the landscape to buttress local populations, influence animal movements, or af- fect distributions of certain species of interest. Despite their prevalence, the utility of wildlife guzzlers remains largely untested. We employed a before-after control-impact （BACI） design over a 4-year period on the US Army Dugway Proving Ground, Utah, USA, to determine whether water avaiJability at wildlife guzzlers influenced relative abundance of black-tailed jackrabbits Lepus californicus and relative use of areas near that resource by coyotes Canis latrans, and whether coyote visitations to guzzlers would decrease following elimination of water. eliminating water availability at guzzlers did not influence jackrabbit relative abundance. Coyote relative use was impacted by water availability, with elimination of water reducing use in areas associated with our treatment, but not with areas associated with our control. Visitations of radio-collared coyotes to guzzlers declined nearly 3-fold following elimination of water. Our study provides the first evidence of a potential direct effect of water sources on a mammalian carnivore in an arid environment, but the ecological relevance of our finding is debatable. Future investigations aimed at determining water effects on terrestrial mam- mals could expand on our findings by incorporating manipulations of water availability, obtaining absolute estimates of population parameters and vital rates and incorporating fine-scale spatiotem- poral data.
