In this paper, we propose and analyze a second order accurate in time, masslumped mixed finite element scheme for the Cahn-Hilliard equation with a logarithmic Flory-Huggins energy potential. The standard backward differentiation formula (BDF)stencil is applied in the temporal discretization. In the chemical potential approximation,both the logarithmic singular terms and the surface diffusion term are treatedimplicitly, while the expansive term is explicitly updated via a second-order Adams-Bashforth extrapolation formula, following the idea of the convex-concave decompositionof the energy functional. In addition, an artificial Douglas-Dupont regularizationterm is added to ensure the energy dissipativity. In the spatial discretization, the masslumped finite element method is adopted. We provide a theoretical justification of theunique solvability of the mass lumped finite element scheme, using a piecewise linearelement. In particular, the positivity is always preserved for the logarithmic argumentsin the sense that the phase variable is always located between -1 and 1. In fact, thesingular nature of the implicit terms and the mass lumped approach play an essentialrole in the positivity preservation in the discrete setting. Subsequently, an unconditionalenergy stability is proven for the proposed numerical scheme. In addition, theconvergence analysis and error estimate of the numerical scheme are also *** numerical experiments are carried out to verify the theoretical properties.

In this paper we propose and analyze a second order accurate numericalscheme for the Cahn-Hilliard equation with logarithmic Flory Huggins energy potential. A modified Crank-Nicolson approximation is applied to the logarithmic nonlinear term, while the expansive term is updated by an explicit second order AdamsBashforth extrapolation, and an alternate temporal stencil is used for the surface diffusion term. A nonlinear artificial regularization term is added in the numerical scheme,which ensures the positivity-preserving property, i.e., the numerical value of the phasevariable is always between -1 and 1 at a point-wise level. Furthermore, an unconditional energy stability of the numerical scheme is derived, leveraging the special formof the logarithmic approximation term. In addition, an optimal rate convergence estimate is provided for the proposed numerical scheme, with the help of linearizedstability analysis. A few numerical results, including both the constant-mobility andsolution-dependent mobility flows, are presented to validate the robustness of the proposed numerical scheme.

Tweek atmospherics are extremely low frequency and very low frequency pulse signals with frequency dispersion characteristics that originate from lightning discharges and that propagate in the Earth–ionosphere waveguide over long *** this study,we developed an automatic method to recognize tweek atmospherics and diagnose the lower ionosphere based on the machine learning *** differences(automatic−manual)in each ionosphere parameter between the automatic method and the manual method were−0.07±2.73 km,0.03±0.92 cm^(−3),and 91±1,068 km for the ionospheric reflection height(h),equivalent electron densities at reflection heights(Ne),and propagation distance(d),***,the automatic method is capable of recognizing higher harmonic tweek *** evaluation results of the model suggest that the automatic method is a powerful tool for investigating the long-term variations in the lower ionosphere.

Background and Aims:This study serves to revisit the effects of liver transplantation(LT)on employment in an era of improving survival outcomes post-transplant,and to identify areas of improvement in the transplant process to better optimize post-LT employment and patient ***:Prospectively,patients who had undergone LT at a single tertiary LT center were surveyed in person and by *** outcomes included employment rate pre-and post-LT,annual salary,weekly hours worked,barriers to re-employment,and patient ***:Responses were collected and analyzed from 121 patients who underwent ***-LT,68(56.1%)reported full-time employment,13(10.7%)part-time employment,and 40(33.1%)***-LT,26(21.4%)reported continued full-time employment,18(14.9%)part-time employment,and 77(63.6%)*** weekly work hours decreased post-LT(16.1 h/week vs.39.9 h/week).Mean annual salaries decreased post-LT(17 earning salary≥$40,000 vs.56 earning salary≥$40,000).These outcomes differed from patient pre-LT expectations,with 81.0%of previously employed patients believing they would return to employment,resulting in decreased patient *** working physically demanding jobs pre-LT were less likely to return to *** cited for lack of return to full employment included early fatigue and difficulty regaining physical ***:Re-employment rates remain low post-LT,which is particularly true for patients working physically active *** is a significant barrier to re-employment and increased physical rehabilitation post-LT may prove to be *** should be given realistic expectations about return to employment prior to their LT.

Disparities in the substrate affinity and tolerance threshold for ammonia have been believed to play a key role in driving niche differentiation between ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) and bacteria (AOB);however, recent surveys argue that direct competition between AOA and AOB is also important in this phenomenon. Accordingly, it is reasonable to predict that diverse AOA lineages would grow in ammonium (NH_(4)^(+))-rich alkaline arable soils if AOB growth is suppressed. To test this hypothesis, a microcosm study was established using three different types of alkaline arable soils, in which a high NH_(4)^(+) concentration (200 μg N g^(-1) dry soil) was maintained by routinely replenishing urea and the activities of AOB were selectively inhibited by 1-octyne or 3,4-dimethylpyrazole phosphate (DMPP). Compared with amendment with urea alone, 1-octyne partially retarded AOB growth, while DMPP completely inhibited AOB. Both inhibitors accelerated the growth of AOA, with significantly higher ratios of abundance of AOA to AOB observed with DMPP amendment across soils. Nonmetric multidimensional scaling analysis (NMDS) indicated that different treatments significantly altered the community structures of both AOA and AOB and AOA OTUs enriched by high-NH_(4)^(+) amendment were taxonomically constrained across the soils tested and closely related to Nitrososphaera viennensis EN76 and N. garnensis. Given that these representative strains have been demonstrated to be sensitive to high ammonia concentrations, our results suggest that it is the competitiveness for ammonia, rather than disparities in substrate affinity and tolerance threshold for ammonia, that drives niche differentiation between these phylotypes and AOB in NH_(4)^(+)-rich alkaline soils.

This paper examines how the difference in institutional environments constitutes differential IPO underpricing across countries. Using the Heritage Foundation＇s Index of Economic Freedom （IEF） as a proxy for the heterogeneous institutional environment, and a sample of 3728 IPOs from 22 countries and regions over the period 1993--2014, we find that countries with higher economic freedom have significantly less serious IPO underpricing problems. Moreover, we find that among the 10 economic freedom factors covered by theIEF, financial freedom related factors play a more important role in reducing the IPO underpricing problem. Finally, consistent with the market sentiment hypothesis, we find strong evidence that pre-IPO market sentiment influences IPO firstday returns, and that the IPO underpricing problem is less severe when the market is bearish.

PM_(2.5)-bound polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) in Beijing:Seasonal variations,sources,and risk assessment

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) have been of health concern due to its carcinogenesis and mutagenesis. In this study, we aimed to assess the variations, sources, and lifetime excessive cancer risk(ECR) attributable to PAHs bound to ambient particulate matters with aerodynamic diameter less than 2.5 μm(PM_(2.5)) in metropolitan Beijing, China. We collected24-hour integrated PM_(2.5) samples on daily basis between November 2014 and June 2015 across both central heating(cold months) and non-heating(warm months) seasons, and further analyzed the PAH components in these daily PM_(2.5) samples. Our results showed that total concentrations of PM_(2.5)-bound PAHs varied between(88.6 ± 75.4) ng/m^3 in the cold months and(11.0 ± 5.9) ng/m^3 in the warm months. Benzo[a]pyrene(Ba P), the carcinogenic marker of PAHs,averaged at 5.7 and 0.4 ng/m^3 in the cold and warm months, respectively. Source apportionment analyses illustrated that gasoline, biomass burning, diesel, coal combustion and cooking were the major contributors, accounting for 12.9%, 17.8%, 24.7%, 24.3% and 6.4% of PM_(2.5)-bound PAHs, respectively. The BaP equivalent lifetime ECR from inhalation of PM_(2.5)-bound PAHs was 16.2 cases per million habitants. Our results suggested that ambient particulate reduction from energy reconstruction and adaption of clean fuels would result in reductions PM_(2.5)-bound PAHs and its associated cancer risks. However, as only particulate phased PAHs was analyzed in the present study, the concentration of ambient PAHs could be underestimated.
