A recent publication in Nature by lan et al.,presented GREM1(gremlin 1)as an important regulatory node of cellular plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC).1 Knockout experiments in mice point to an important role of Grem1 in retaining an epithelial,differentiated phenotype of pancreatic cancer cells presumably by inhibiting BMP signalling.

Obesity is one of the diseases with severe health consequences and rapidly increasing worldwide *** the complex network of food intake and energy balance regulation is an essential prerequisite for pharmacological intervention with obesity.G protein-coupled receptors(GPCRs)are among the main modulators of metabolism and energy ***,for instance,regulate appetite and satiety in certain hypothalamic neurons,as well as glucose and lipid metabolism and hormone secretion from *** in some GPCRs,such as the melanocortin receptor type 4(MC4R),have been associated with early-onset ***,we identified the adhesion GPCR latrophilin 1(ADGRl1/lPHN1)as a member of the regulating network governing food intake and the maintenance of energy *** of the highly conserved receptor in mice results in increased food consumption and severe obesity,accompanied by dysregulation of glucose ***,we identified a partially inactivating mutation in human ADGRl1/lPHN1 in a patient suffering from ***,we propose that lPHN1 dysfunction is a risk factor for obesity development.

The superτ-charm facility(STCF)is an electron–positron collider proposed by the Chinese particle physics *** is designed to operate in a center-of-mass energy range from 2 to 7 GeV with a peak luminosity of 0.5×10^(35) cm^(–2)·s^(–1) or *** STCF will produce a data sample about a factor of 100 larger than that of the presentτ-charm factory—the BEPCII,providing a unique platform for exploring the asymmetry of matter-antimatter(charge-parity violation),in-depth studies of the internal structure of hadrons and the nature of non-perturbative strong interactions,as well as searching for exotic hadrons and physics beyond the Standard *** STCF project in China is under development with an extensive R&D *** document presents the physics opportunities at the STCF,describes conceptual designs of the STCF detector system,and discusses future plans for detector R&D and physics case studies.

Fish mortality assessments for turbine passages are currently performed by live-animal testing with up to a hundred thousand fish per year in Germany.A propelled sensor device could act as a fish *** this context,the study presented here investigates the state of the art via a thorough literature review on propulsion systems for aquatic *** evaluation of propulsion performance,weight,size and complexity of the motion achievable allows for the selection of an optimal concept for such a fish mimicking device carrying the *** the second step,the design of a bioinspired soft robotic fish driven by an unconventional drive system is *** is based on piezoceramic actuators,which allow for motion with five degrees of freedom(DOF)and the creation of complex bio-mimicking body motions.A kinematic model for the motion’s characteristics is developed,to achieve accurate position feedback with the use of strain *** measurements validate the complex deformation of the body and deliver the basis for the calibration of the kinematic ***,it can be shown,that the calibrated model presented allows the tracking of the deformation of the entire body with an accuracy of 0.1 mm.

Urban ecosystems are evolutionarily recent novel environments acting as biodiversity *** birds are considered successful urban adapters mainly due to their generalist feeding and opportunistic behavior,allowing them to occupy environments from cold temperate to dry xeric ***,it is important to understand how these species interact in the urban *** studied the interannual(2013–2016)abundance of the White-fronted Parrot(Amazona albifrons)in the Neotropical cities of Xalapa and Coatepec,in Central Veracruz,Mé***,we studied the feeding ecology during 13 months of 6 parrot species detected in the city of *** abundance of the White-fronted Parrot was significantly higher in Xalapa than in Coatepec,and it was homogeneous across ***-native plants represented 30–41%of Psittacidae diets in Xalapa,where seeds were the most commonly consumed *** recorded the highest Psittacidae species richness and highest diet overlap among species by the end of the dry season(April–May).The White-fronted Parrot had the highest plant richness in its diet,followed by the Monk Parakeet(Myiopsitta monachus)and the Green Parakeet(Psittacara holochlorus);yet,the White-fronted Parrot had a specialized diet dominated by two plant species(Grevillea robusta and Ficus aurea).The diet overlap among the three above-mentioned parrot species was not significantly different to a null model,where the White-fronted Parrot and the Monk Parakeet overlapped during the months of February,April,June,and *** White-fronted Parrot is an urban adapter that has successfully expanded its geographic range via natural means and by human *** invasive Monk Parakeet is currently restricted to one park in Xalapa,and it has remained in that stage for many years(i.e.,pre-expansion phase).Exotic plant species in Xalapa represent∼55%of the woody vegetation,some of which have longer flowering and fruiting periods that may have aided the s

Superior ballistic performance and the lightweight character of Ti alloys are considered as main reasons for their use in armour applications against a broad spectrum of ballistic threats,***,fragment or blast *** dynamic loading caused by typical penetrators is characterized by high strain rates,only specific test methods allow a closer investigation of the respective material *** the present study,quasi-static and dynamic compression tests as well as ballistic tests were conducted on a twophase a+βalloy Ti-6Al-4V(in m%)manufactured by ***-deformation heat treatments,influencing microstructure and mechanical properties were applied in order to compare three different microstructural configurations:as-rolled,mill-annealed and ***,on the one hand,ballistic tests were employed for the determination of the ballistic limit velocity v_(50),compression tests,on the other hand,delivered essential input parameters for the application of the Johnson-Cook constitutive model in a finite element simulation of the impact *** comparison of experimental results to simulation results was supplemented by means of microstructural characterization of tested samples with the focus set on the prevalently observed deformation and damage mechanisms,as for example adiabatic shearing.
