Circulating Th17 and Tc17 Cells and Their Imbalance with Regulatory T Cells Is Associated with Myocardial Infarction in Young Indian Patients

Background: Activated inflammatory cells are found in coronary plaques as well as peripheral circulation in patients with acute coronary syndrome. We explored the circulating T cell profile, their reactivity to self-antigens and plasma cytokine levels in Indian patients with Myocardial Infarction. Methods and Results: Intracellular expression of interferon-γ Interleukin (IL)-4, IL-17, IL-10 and Foxp3 were determined in CD4+ and CD8+ T cells using flow cytometry in patients with ST elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI) (N = 79) and controls (N = 80). Cytokines were measured using Milliplex kit and T cell reactivity was studied by CFSE dilution. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software. Patients with myocardial infarction showed higher proportion of IL-17 expressing CD4+ and CD8+ T cells (Th17 and Tc17) and elevated levels of IL-6 and IL-17 in plasma with significant reduction in circulating Tregs. Th1, Th2 and CD4+CD28null cells were not significantly different in patients compared to healthy individuals. The ratio of Th17 and Tc17 to Tregs showed an independent association with STEMI with an adjusted odds ratio of 2.92 (95% CI: 1.73 - 4.92), P + and CD8+ T cells secreting IL-17 and Tregs is associated with acute myocardial infarction. HSP60 and Ox-LDL may contribute to this response and pathogenesis of AMI in Indian population.

Bleeding Meckel’s in Pregnancy: A Rare Cause of a Rare Phenomenon

Meckel’s diverticulum complicating pregnancy is indeed a rare occurrence. The anatomical and physiological changes that occur in pregnancy make the clinical presentation and preoperative diagnosis of an acute abdomen extremely difficult. Even imaging modalities have to be used with caution keeping in mind the risks associated for both mother and fetus. Treatment of such cases must be prompt and accurate with a high index of suspicion in order to prevent high rate of maternal and fetal morbidity. We report one such case of bleeding of Meckel’s diverticulum. The most common cause of bleeding in a Meckel’s is ectopic gastric mucosa. When we performed an exploratory laparotomy we found to our surprise a bleeding Meckel’s diverticulum. Further investigations revealed a very interesting histopathological report of endometriosis as the cause of bleed.

Wind energy witnessed tremendous growth in the past decade and emerged as the most sought renewable energy source after solar energy. Though the Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines (HAWT) is preferred for multi-megawatt power generation, Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT) is as competitive as HAWT. The current study aims to summarize the development of VAWT, in particular, Darrieus turbine from the past to the project that is underway. The reason for the technical challenges and past failures are discussed. Various configurations of VAWT have been assessed in terms of reliability, components and low wind speed performance. Innovative concepts and the feasibility to scale up for megawatt electricity generation, especially in offshore environments are investigated. This paper is a modest attempt to highlight the state-of-the-art information on the ongoing developments focusing on decentralized power generation. This review is envisioned as an information hub for the major developments in VAWT and its technical advancements so far.

Multiple Sexual Partners and Vulnerability to HIV: A Study of Patterns of Sexual Behaviour in the Slum Population of India

Globally, research indicates that monogamous married women living in slums are at heightened risk of HIV men’s risky sexual behaviour. Hence, to reduce the risk of HIV transmission, there is need to understand the number, nature and variation in transition of sexual partners of men in living in slums. This paper uses India’s National Family Health Survey-3 data to estimate the variation in the type of sexual partners among sexually active men age 15 - 54 with more than one sexual partner in last 12 months prior to the survey in eight slums?of India. Among sexually active men, 1.3 percent reported having more than one sexual partner in the last 12 months prior to the survey. Men who are more likely to have two or more partners are those who are young, especially below age 25 years, never married, educated up to 5 years, and from middle class. There is a higher increase in the probability of sex with spouse from second last to the last sexual partner in non-slum areas than slum areas. However, in case of transition from other friends/relatives and female sex workers to spousal partners, there is a major decline in probability among non-slum men than slum men. These transitions are extremely important from the perspective of curbing the spread of HIV epidemic, especially in situations where women lack control over their own sexuality and seldom use condom in marital sex. Therefore, strategies focused in slums should either consider reducing men’s risky sexual behaviour or build capacities of women to negotiate safe sex in marital relationships or consider a combination of both.

The present study explored quality control of plant drug and polyherbal formulation using HPTLC and HPLC *** study combined qualitative analysis of Emodin and Rhein biomarker compound in Rhei Emodi *** extract and polyherbal formulation extract by HPTLC method with quantitative estimation of Emodin by HPLC method,aiming to help in accurate identification of Emodin and Rhein in plant materials,polyherbal *** study also checked adulteration,with the purpose of improving bio-efficacy of ayurvedic *** the samples showed characteristic peaks of Emodin at same retention time as that of standard *** to the HPTLC fingerprinting results,the Rf values of Rhein reference standard at 0.42 and Emodin at 0.62 were observed in test solution of Rhei emodi *** extract and polyherbal formulation extract and both were found *** quantitative evaluation of Emodin present in the polyherbal formulation and Rhei emodi *** extracts were 0.0177% and 0.3106% respectively.

Simplified Design Procedure of Monopile Foundation for Offshore Wind Turbine in Gujarat, India

OWTs （offshore wind turbines） are currently considered as a reliable source of renewable energy. OWT support structures account for 20%-25% of the capital cost for offshore wind installations. Pre-feasibility studies involving estimation of preliminary dimensions of the wind turbine structure need to be performed for initial costing to arrive at the commercial viability of the project. The main objective of the paper is to obtain preliminary configuration for commercial viability and approximate sizing of the foundation pile. Design equations and nomograms are proposed for quick preliminary design of monopile founded wind turbines located offshore of Gujarat. Parametric studies are carried-out on various configurations of a hollow monopile by varying water depths and properties of sand. A nonlinear static analysis of substructure is performed considering aerodynamic forces and hydrodynamic forces for various structural and soil parameters. The sub-structure design of wind turbine is based on API （American petroleum institute） standards. A simplified design methodology for monopile support structure under extreme loading condition is presented based on multivariable linear regression analysis. The input variables for the regression analysis are hydrodynamic data, angle of internal friction of sand, and the output variables are length and outer diameter of monopile. This simplified methodology is applicable in pre-studies of wind power parks.

Statistical design and evaluation of a propranolol HCl gastric floating tablet

The purpose of this research was to apply statistical design for the preparation of a gastric floating tablet(GFT)of propranolol HCl and to investigate the effect of formulation variables on drug release and the buoyancy properties of the delivery *** contents of polyethylene oxide(PEO)WSR coagulant and sodium bicarbonate were used as independent variables in central composite design of the best *** effects and interaction terms of the formulation variables were evaluated quantitatively using a mathematical model approach showing that both independent variables have significant effects on floating lag time,%drug release at 1 h(D_(1h))and time required to release 90%of the drug(t_(90)).The desired function was used to optimize the response variables,each with a different target,and the observed responses were in good agreement with the experimental *** and DSC studies of the statistically optimized formulation revealed there was no chemical interaction between drug and *** statistically optimized formulation released drug according to first order kinetics with a non-Fickian diffusion *** of the optimized formulation in vivo in human volunteers showed that the GFT was buoyant in gastric fluid and that its gastric residence time was enhanced in the fed but not the fasted state.

Preparation &Characterization of Al-5083 Alloy Composites

This paper reports the dry sliding wear behavior & Brinell hardness test of AA 5083 aluminium reinforced with SiC particles fabricated by stir casting technique. Different volume fraction of SiC particles (3, 5 and 7 wt%) were used for synthesis. The wear test has been conducted on pin-on-disc testing machine to examine the wear behaviour of the aluminium alloy and its composites. An attempt has been made to study the influence of wear parameters like applied load, sliding speed, sliding distance and percentage of reinforcement on the dry sliding wear of metal matrix composites (MMCs). A plan of experiments, based on the techniques of Taguchi, was performed to acquire data in controlled way. An orthogonal array of L9 (34) and signal to noise ratios as smaller the better was selected. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed to investigate the influence of wear parameter on pin of aluminium MMCs. The correlation was obtained by multiple general regressions model. Finally, conformation tests were done to make a comparison between the experimental results foreseen from the mentioned correlation.

Shodhana(purification/detoxification)is an important aspect of *** has been described in several important pieces of *** this study,we performed shodhana process on Langali(Gloriosa superba Linn.)tubers of family Liliaceae,a semi-woody herbaceous climber with significant therapeutic *** compared the unprocessed(before purification)and processed(after purification)samples based on the phytochemical,physicochemical,and chromatographic study,including HPTLC,HPLC,GC-MS and *** changes were observed in profiling after the shodhana *** plant contains colchicine,known for its toxic effects,particularly ***,we quantified colchicine in the unprocessed and processed samples of Gloriosa superba *** using HPLC *** showed that the percentage of colchicine was reduced by 13.67%in chloroform extract and 20.97%in ethanol extracts after the shodhana process.
