BAcKGROUNd Prevalence of hepatocellular carcinoma(Hcc)is increasing,especially in patients with metabol.c.d.sfunctionassociated steatotic liver disease(MASld).AIM To investigate rifaximin(RIF)effects on epigenetic/autophagy markers in *** Adult Sprague-dawley rats were randomly assigned(n=8,each)and treated from 5-16 wk:control[standard diet,water plus gavage with vehicle(Veh)],Hcc[high-fat choline deficient diet(HFcd),diethylnitrosamine(dEN)in drinking water and Veh gavage],and RIF[HFcd,dEN and RIF(50 mg/kg/d)gavage].Gene expression of epigenetic/autophagy markers and circulating miRNAs were *** All Hcc and RIF animals developed metabol.c.d.sfunction associated steatohepatitis fibrosis,and cirrhosis,but three RIF-group did not develop *** animals who developed Hcc with those who did not,miR-122,miR-34a,tubulin alpha-1c(Tuba-1c),metalloproteinases-2(Mmp2),and metalloproteinases-9(Mmp9)were significantly higher in the *** opposite occurred with Becn1,coactivator associated arginine methyltransferase-1(carm1),enhancer of zeste homolog-2(Ezh2),autophagy-related factor lc3A/B(Map1 lc3b),and p62/sequestosome-1(p62/SQSTM1)-*** with controls,Map1 lc3b,Becn1 and Ezh2 were lower in Hcc and RIF-groups(Pcarm1 was lower in Hcc compared to RIF(Pc expression of Mmp9 was higher in Hcc in relation to the control;the opposite was observed for p62/Sqstm1(Plower in the RIF-group compared to the control(P=0.024).There was no difference among groups for Tuba-1c,Aldolase-B,alpha-fetoprotein,and Mmp2(P>0.05).miR-122 was higher in Hcc,and miR-34a in RIF compared to controls(Plower in Hcc compared to RIF,and the inverse was observed for miR-224(Pdifference among groups regarding miR-33a,miR-143,miR-155,miR-375 and miR-21(P>0.05).cONclUSION RIF might have a possible beneficial effect on preventing/delaying liver carcinogenesis throu

The full array of the large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory(lHAASO)has been in operation since July *** its kilometer-square array(KM2A),we optimized the selection criteria for very high and ultrahigh energyγ-rays using data collected from August 2021 to August 2022,resulting in an improvement in significance of the detection in the crab Nebula of approximately 15%,compared with that of previous *** the implementation of these new selection criteria,the angular resolution was also significantly improved by approximately 10%at tens of *** aspects of the full KM2A array performance,such as the pointing error,were also calibrated using the crab *** resulting energy spectrum of the crab Nebula in the energy range of 10-1000 TeV are well fitted by a log-parabola model,which is consistent with the previous results from lHAASO and other experiments.

AIM:To investigate the prevalence of visual impairment(VI)and provide an estimation of uncorrected refractive errors in school-aged children,conducted by optometry students as a community ***:The study was *** 3343 participants were included in the *** initial examination involved assessing the uncorrected distance visual acuity(UdVA)and visual acuity(VA)while using a+2.00 d *** inclusion criteria for a subsequent comprehensive cycloplegic eye examination,performed by an optometrist,were as follows:a UdVAdecimal(0.20 logMAR)and/or a VA with+2.00 d≥0.8 decimal(0.96 logMAR).RESUlTS:The sample had a mean age of 10.92±2.13y(range 4 to 17y),and 51.3%of the children were female(n=1715).The majority of the children(89.7%)fell within the age range of 8 to *** the ethnic groups,the highest representation was from the luhya group(60.6%)followed by luo(20.4%).Mean logMAR UdVA choosing the best eye for each student was 0.29±0.17(range 1.70 to 0.22).Out of the total,246 participants(7.4%)had a full eye *** estimated prevalence of myopia(defined as spherical equivalent≤-0.5 d)was found to be 1.45%of the total *** around 0.18%of the total sample had hyperopia value exceeding+1.75 *** astigmatism(cild)was found in 0.21%(7/3343)of the *** VI prevalence was 1.26%of the total *** our cases of VI,76.2%could be attributed to uncorrected refractive *** was detected in 0.66%(22/3343)of the screened *** was no statistically significant correlation observed between age or gender and refractive ***:The primary cause of VI is determined to be uncorrected refractive errors,with myopia being the most prevalent refractive error *** findings underscore the significance of early identification and correction of refractive errors in school-aged children as a means to alleviate the impact of VI.

The combination of urbanization and global warming leads to urban overheating and compounds the frequency and intensity of extreme heat events due to climate ***,the risk of urban overheating can be mitigated by urban green-blue-grey infrastructure(GBGI),such as parks,wetlands,and engineered greening,which have the potential to effectively reduce summer air *** many reviews,the evidence bases on quantified GBGI cooling benefits remains partial and the practical recommendations for implementation are *** systematic literature review synthesizes the evidence base for heat mitigation and related co-benefits,identifies knowledge gaps,and proposes recommendations for their implementation to maximize their *** screening 27,486 papers,202 were reviewed,based on 51 GBGI types categorized under 10 main *** GBGI(green walls,parks,street trees)have been well researched for their urban cooling ***,several other GBGI have received negligible(zoological garden,golf course,estuary)or minimal(private garden,allotment)*** most efficient air cooling was observed in botanical gardens(5.0±3.5℃),wetlands(4.9±3.2℃),green walls(4.1±4.2℃),street trees(3.8±3.1℃),and vegetated balconies(3.8±2.7℃).Under changing climate conditions(2070–2100)with consideration of RcP8.5,there is a shift in climate subtypes,either within the same climate zone(e.g.,dfa to dfb and cfb to cfa)or across other climate zones(e.g.,dfb[continental warm-summer humid]to BSk[dry,cold semi-arid]and cwa[temperate]to Am[tropical]).These shifts may result in lower efficiency for the current GBGI in the *** the importance of multiple services,it is crucial to balance their functionality,cooling performance,and other related co-benefits when planning for the future *** global GBGI heat mitigation inventory can assist policymakers and urban planners in prioritizing effective interventions to reduce the risk of urban overheating,fi

Aim: To evaluate the effects of 1,3-dinitrobenznene (mdNB) on sperm motility of hamster and to correlate the re-sults with the fertility. Methods: Adult male hamsters were gavaged with one of the 3 dose regimes of mdNB(1.5 mg daily for 4 weeks ,1.5 mg one day a week for 4 weeks and 1.0 mg 3 days a week for 4 weeks). computerassisted semen analysis (cASA) was used to analyse the sperm motility parameters, curvilinear velocity (Vcl) andstraight line velocity (VSl) of sperm in distal corpus epididymides and distal cauda epididymides. In vitro fertilisationwas carried out only for 1.5 mg mdNB daily group to determine the sperm fertilising capacity. Results: There wasa significant reduction in sperm velocity parameters at weeks 3 and 4 after treatment, which was correlated with a de-cline in sperm fertility. conclusion; Sperm velocity parameters may be used to determine the effect of a toxic insulton the sperm function.

Effects of acut and chronic doses of methoxy acetic acid on hamster sperm fertilising ability

Aim: To evaluate the effects of acute and chronic doses of methoxy acetic acid (MAA) on in vitro fertilisation byhamster sperm and to correlate the data with the testicular damage. Methods: Adult male hamsters were gavagedwith 3 single doses (0, 80, 160 and 650 mg/kg) and 3 chronic doses (0, 8, 32 and 64 mg/kg daily for 5 weeks) ofMAA in distilled water. After treatment hamsters were killed at weekly intervals and spermatozoa recovered from thedistal cauda epididymides were used to assess the fertilising capacity in vitro. The testes were processed for histologicalexamination. Results; Acute doses showed a significant reduction in sperm fertilising ability from week 3 and 4 af-ter treatment and with the chronic doses, the effects were more extensive and persistent. The results were in correpon-dence with the testicular damages observed. conclusion: It is evident that both acute and chronic doses of MAAcan impair the sperm function by damaging one or more cell populations in the testis.(Asian J Androl 2001 Sep; 3: 209- 216)

Marine biofouling seriously affects human marine exploitation and transportation activities, to which marine antifouling(AF) coatings are considered to be the most cost-effective solution. Since the mid-20th century, human beings have dedicated their efforts on developing AF coatings with long cycle and high performance, leading to a large number of non-target organisms? distortion, death and marine environmental pollution. Polydimethylsiloxane(PdMS), is considered as one of the representative environment-friendly AF materials thanks to its non-toxic, hydrophobic, low surface energy and AF properties. However, PdMS AF coatings are prone to mechanical damage, weak adhesion strength to substrate, and poor static AF effect, which seriously restrict their use in the ocean. The rapid development of various nanomaterials provides an opportunity to enhance and improve the mechanical properties and antifouling properties of PdMS coating by embedding *** on our research background and the problems faced in our laboratory, this article presents an overview of the current progress in the fields of PdMS composite coatings enhanced by different nanomaterials, with the discussion focused on the advantages and main bottlenecks currently encountered in this field. Finally, we propose an outlook, hoping to provide fundamental guidance for the development of marine AF field.

Uxi (Endopleura uchi) is a plant from the Brazilian Amazon. It has many biological activities that are attributed to its main active component, bergenin (BG), which has low water solubility. The aim of this work was to obtain β-cyclodextrin (β-cd) inclusion complexes of uxi using lyophilized cooked rice as the solid substrate. The process was studied using a Box–Behnken design with the solution feed rate, molar ratio of β-cd to BG, and rice bed load as factors. These factors greatly affected the product bulk density, angle of repose, water content, and BG content, loss, and water solubility. The optimum process conditions determined using a desirability functions methodology were an extract feed rate of 1 ml/min, a ratio of β-cd to BG of 3:1, and a substrate load of 100 g. The predicted values under the optimum conditions were close to the experimental results of a water content of 5.8%± 0.2%, BG content of 985.7 ± 15.4 μg/g, BG water solubility of 2230.2 ± 21.1 μg/ml, and BG loss of 1.2%± 0.1%. These results confirm that spouted beds are an important tool for rapid, one-step preparation of pharmaceutical β-cd inclusion complexes in a solid form.

The Gurupi Belt,in north-northeastern Brazil,is a mobile belt developed in the south-southwestern margin of the Sao luis cratonic fragment and crops out as a tectonic and erosional window within the Phanerozoic ***,petrographic,geochemical,geochronological,and Nd isotopic information(new and published)constrain the timing and types of magmatic associations present in the belt and the tectonic settings in which they *** Rhyacian was the main period of magmatic activity,which can be grouped into two main stages.(1)~2185-2130 Ma:pre-collisional,juvenile,calc-alkaline magnesian and calcic ferroan granitoid suites,and minor calc-alkaline and tholeiitic mafic plutonism(now amphibolites),formed in intra-oceanic to transitional/continental arcs;and intra-or back-arc volcano-sedimentary basin.(2)~2125-2070 Ma:syn-(two-mica granites)to late-collisional(potassic to shoshonitic granites and quartz-syenite)plutonic suites produced after crustal thickening and melting,with localized migmatization,that intruded during the compressive d1 deformational phase and concomitantly with greenschist to amphibolite *** is a zonation of the Rhyacian episodes,with intra-oceanic stages occurring to the northeast,and the continental arc and collisional phases occurring to the southwest,indicating the presence of an active continental margin to the southwest,and subduction from NE to SW(present-day configuration).This magmatic framework is a continuation to the south of what is described for the Sao luis cratonic fragment to the north,and the orogenic scenario is identical to what is observed for the same period in the West African craton(Eburnean/Birrimian orogen),which additionally supports previous geological *** the Neoproterozoic,a few magmatic occurrences are *** extensional event allowed the intrusion of an anorogenic,nepheline syenite at ca.730 Ma,which was followed by the intrusion of a crustal,calc-alkaline microtonalite,of uncertain
