Melatonin is a pleiotropic molecule that,after a short-term sleep deprivation,promotes the proliferation of neural stem cells in the adult ***,this effect has not been observed in long-term sleep *** precise mechanism exerted by melatonin on the modulation of neural stem cells is not entirely elucidated,but evidence indicates that epigenetic regulators may be involved in this *** this study,we investigated the effect of melatonin treatment during a 96-hour sleep deprivation and analyzed the expression of epigenetic modulators predicted by computational text mining and keyword *** results showed that the administration of melatonin under sleep-deprived conditions increased the MECP2 expression and reduced the SIRT1 expression in the dentate *** observed that let-7 b,mir-132,and mir-124 were highly expressed in the dentate gyrus after melatonin administration,but they were not modified by sleep *** addition,we found more Sox2^+/5-bromo-2’-deoxyuridine(BrdU)^+cells in the subgranular zone of the sleep-deprived group treated with melatonin than in the untreated *** findings may support the notion that melatonin modifies the expression of epigenetic mediators that,in turn,regulate the proliferation of neural progenitor cells in the adult dentate gyrus under long-term sleep-deprived *** procedures performed in this study were approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of the University of Guadalajara,Mexico(approval ***-16610)on January 2,2016.

High frequency of Antiviral Resistance Mutations in HBV Genotypes A2 and H: Multidrug Resistance Strains in Mexico

Influence of Prenatal and Postnatal Stress on the Sexual Behavior of Rats

Objective: To evaluate the effects of prenatal and postnatal stress on the sexual behavior of rats. Methods: Thirty-two 2-month-old male Wistar rats were divided as follows: the EG Group (comprised of 10 rats whose mothers underwent gestational stress), the EO Group (11 rats subjected to postnatal stress), and the SE Group (control group, comprised of 11 animals that went through no stress whatsoever). Upon reaching adulthood, these male rates were introduced to females and had their sexual behavior assessed based on the number of mounts. Results: The animals from the EP Group showed significantly fewer mounts (74 ± 24.77, p d to those from the EG (108.9 ± 35.27) and SE (99.6 ± 20.76) Groups. Conclusion: The rats that underwent stress during the first days of life mated fewer times than those whose mothers were subjected to stress during pregnancy. The latter had their sexual behavior unaltered.

OSL dating of Coastal Post-Barreiras Sediments from Northern Brazil

In the present work, luminescence dating of sedimentary deposits, from the coast of the State of Maranh^o, in northeast Brazil, was done. Samples were collected from the Post-Barreiras sediments, a quartzose sandy unit that is extensive along the entire northeast and northern Brazilian coast, where they occur overlying early to middle Miocene Barreiras formation. A great part of the Post-Barreiras sediments is massive, which precludes its depositional setting interpretation. However, this unit consists of three successions, the lowermost one including highly bioturbated deposits suggestive of marine influence, and the two uppermost ones displaying dune dissipative structures related to eolian processes along coastal areas. The study aimed to compare MAR （multiple aliquot regeneration） and SAR （single aliquot regeneration） protocols for dating these deposits. discussion involving origins of depositions will also include single aliquot measurements. The ages obtained by OSL （optical stimulated luminescence）-SAR protocol range from （0.5 ± 0.1） ka to （84 ± 6） ka.

Characterization of Chemical Constituents of Luffa operculata(Cucurbitaceae)

A mixture of new ceramides (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) together with a binary mixture of ceramides with long chain alkyl (6 and 7), triterpenoid (10) and steroids (11 and 12) have been isolated from bark of the fruits and of the stems of Luffa operculata (Cucurbitaceae). The structures were elucidated by comprehensive spectro- scopic analysis including 1H and 13C NMR, dEPT (distortionless enhancement by polarization transfer), COSY (correlated spectroscopy), HMQC (heteronuclear multiple quantum coherence), HMBC (heteronu- clear multiple bond connectivity), IR (infrared), HR-ESI-MS (electrospray ionization-high resolution mass spectra) and LR-MS (low resolution electron ionization mass spectra) experiments. All the ceramides are reported for the first time in Cucurbitaceae and this is the first report of the rare triterpene 10 isolated from Luffa operculata. The ceramides 6 and 7 showed a high acetylcholine esterase inhibitory effect.

The northern Chilean Patagonia region is a key feeding ground and a nursing habitat in the southern hemisphere for blue whales(Balaenoptera musculus).from 2014 to 2019,during 6 separate research cruises,the dive behavior of 28 individual blue whales was investigated using bio-logging tags(dTAGs),generating≈190 h of *** dove to significantly greater depths during the day compared to nighttime(day:32.6±18.7 m;night:6.2±2.7 m;Pduring the night,most time was spent close to the surface(86%±9.4%;Pd at depths of less than 12 *** 2016 to 2019,active acoustics(scientific echosounders)were used to record prey(euphausiids)density and distribution simultaneously with whale diving *** whales appeared to perform dives relative to the vertical migration of prey during the *** association between diurnal prey migration and shallow nighttime dive behavior suggests that blue whales are at increased risk of ship collisions during periods of darkness since the estimated maximum ship draft of vessels operating in the region is also≈12 *** recent decades,northern Chilean Patagonia has seen a large increase in marine traffic due to a boom in salmon aquaculture and the passenger ship *** strike risks for large whales are likely underestimated in this *** reported in this study may be valuable for policy and mitigation decisions regarding conservation of the endangered blue whale.

Rapid and Sensitive CZE Method for Quality Control Analysis of Pharmaceuticals Containing Pseudoephedrine, Triprolidine and Paracetamol

A rapid and sensitive CZE (Capillary Zone Electrophoresis) method for pharmaceutical analysis was developed and fully validated. The active compounds: Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride (PSE), Triprolidine hydrochloride (TRI) and Paracetamol (PAR) were separated and quantitatively determined using the tris-borate 30 mM buffer at pH = 9.0 as a Background Electrolyte (BGE). The electrophoretic separation was carried out at 25 kV in an unmodified fused silica capillary of I.d. = 50 μm with a “bubble-cell” for UV detection at 210 nm and 25°C. The separation was reached in about 3 min. After calibration the method was applied for analysis of three commercially available pharmaceutical preparations. The repeatability (RSd%) of migration time (tm) was ranging between 0.47% and 0.90% and of peak areas (A) between 0.63% and 3.64%. The Limit of detection (LOd) values was of 0.19 μg/mL, 0.31 μg/mL and 0.08 μg/mL for respectively PSE, TRI and PAR. The results obtained in this study showed that the proposed method was useful in routinely analysis of pharmaceuticals.
