BACKGROUND: Recipients of liver transplantation could have postoperative structural injury and declined absorptive function in the gastrointestinal tract. Glutamine (Gln) is a special nutrient of small intestinal mucosa and of various kinds of cells proliferating rapidly. But Gln could form a kind of poisonous pyroglutamic acid in water solution, which is the limitation of Gln in clinical practice. Glycyl-glutamine (Gly-Gln) is highly soluble and can be hydro-lyzed to release glutamine. This study was undertaken to observe the effect of Gly-Gln dipeptide by enteral feeding on the intestinal structure and absorptive function after allogenetic liver transplantation in rats. METHODS: Twelve male inbred Lewis rats were selected randomly as donors, and 24 male inbred BN rats as recipients of allogenetic liver transplantation. The recipients were also randomly divided into two groups; control group (ALA group, n = 12 ) and experimental group ( GLN group , n =12). In each group, 6 normal BN rats were sampled as the normal parameter on the 3rd preoperative day. The 6 recipients in the control group received alanine 0. 6 g/kg daily for 3 days before operation and 7 days after operation by gastric perfusion, and the 6 recipients in the experimental group were given Gly-Gln 0.6 g/kg daily the same way. The 12 BN recipients underwent 3-day fasting (free access to water with 0. 23% sodium chloride) and ortho-topic liver transplantation in aseptic conditions and were given subcutaneous injection of CsA 2 mg/kg daily after the operation. The 12 BN recipients were sampled on the 8th postoperative day. All of the 24 BN rats were subjected to examination of mucosal structure, activities of Na + -K + - ATP and disaccharidase, and D-xylose absorption test. RESULTS: The 12 BN recipients were alive after liver transplantation. Narrative medicine is a multidisciplinary field of inquiry and practice based on the premise that medical care takes place in the context of *** on narrative medicine training suggests that it conveys benefits such as improved communication skills and personal and professional growth to physicians,medical students,and other health care *** medicine can promote empathy and trust between patients and physicians and foster *** 2014,the author and a colleague started an ongoing inter-disciplinary narrative medicine program in the Children’s Center of the Johns Hopkins Hospital called *** program,which meets monthly,is open to all on a volunteer *** literature,art,and writing,AfterWards nurtures empathy,encourages reflective practice,and builds community among a diverse group of health care *** a series of lectures and workshops at Johns Hopkins Medicine,Peking Union Medical College,and Fudan Hospital in Shanghai,the author has introduced AfterWards to Chinese medical educators and *** with *** Hanson,she created an AfterWards Facilitator’s Guide for the use of Chinese practitioners.A recent White Paper on Chinese health care indicates that an infusion of humanities-based education,of which narrative medicine forms a part,can help rebuild patient-physician ***,there has been an increase in interest in narrative medicine in the United States and ***,more research is needed to demonstrate the impact of programs like *** to the implementation of narrative medicine programs remain,most significantly in terms of expertise,resources,and time.

We investigate a unified chaotic system and its synchronization including feedback synchronization and adaptive synchronization by numerical simulations. We propose a new dynamical quantity denoted by K, which connects adaptive synchronization and feedback synchronization, to analyze synchronization schemes. We find that K can estimate the smallest coupling strength for a unified chaotic system whether it is complete feedback or one-sided feedback. Based on the previous work, we also give a new dynamical method to compute the leading Lyapunov exponent.

In this paper, we study the dynamical behaviour of an epidemic on complex networks with population mobility. In our model, the number of people on each node is unrestricted as the nodes of the network are considered as cities, communities, and so on. Because people can travel between different cities, we study the effect of a population＇s mobility on the epidemic spreading. In view of the population＇s mobility, we suppose that the susceptible individual can be infected by an infected individual in the same city or other connected cities. Simulations are presented to verify our analysis.

BACKGROUND:Portal hyperperfusion in the small-for-size (SFS) liver can threaten survival of ***,it is important to understand the hemodynamic changes in the SFS ***:Twenty rabbits were divided into two groups:a control group and a modulation *** control group underwent an extended *** modulation group underwent the same procedure plus splenectomy to reduce portal blood *** perfusion examinations were performed on all rabbits before and after *** parameter values,especially portal vein perfusion (PVP),were ***:PVP in the modulation group was lower than in the control group after operation (P=0.002).In the control group,postoperative PVP increased by 193.7±55.1% compared with preoperative PVP.A weak correlation was found between the increased percentage of PVP and resected liver-to-body weight ratio (RLBWR) (r=0.465,P=0.033).In the modulation group,postoperative PVP increased by 101.4±32.5%.No correlation was found between the increased percentage of PVP and RLBWR (r=0.167,P=0.644).Correlations were found between PVP and serum alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotransferase,and total bilirubin after surgery (P<0.05).CONCLUSION:We successfully evaluated the characteristics of hemodynamic changes as well as the effects of splenectomy in the SFS liver in rabbits by the CT technique.

Exactly what is meant by a ‘complex’ network is not clear; however, what is clear is that it is something other than a random graph. Complex networks arise in a wide range of real social, technological and physical systems. In all cases, the most basic categorization of these graphs is their node degree *** groups of complex networks may exhibit additional interesting features, including the so-called small-world efect or being scale-free. here are many algorithms with which one may generate networks with particular degree distributions(perhaps the most famous of which is preferential atachment). In this paper, we address what it means to randomly choose a network from the class of networks with a particular degree distribution, and in doing so we show that the networks one gets from the preferential atachment process are actually highly pathological. Certain properties(including robustness and fragility) which have been atributed to the(scale-free) degree distribution are actually more intimately related to the preferential atachment growth mechanism. We focus here on scale-free networks with power-law degree sequences—but our methods and results are perfectly generic.

In this paper we present a new version of Chen＇s system： a piecewise linear （PWL） Chert system of fractional-order. Via a sigmoid-like function, the discontinuous system is transformed into a continuous system. By numerical simulations, we reveal chaotic behaviors and also multistability, i.e., the existence of small pararheter windows where, for some fixed bifurcation parameter and depending on initial conditions, coexistence of stable attractors and chaotic attractors is possible. Moreover, we show that by using an algorithm to switch the bifurcation parameter, the stable attractors can be numerically approximated.
