Binge ethanol intake in chronically exposed rat liver decreases LdL-receptor and increases angiotensinogen gene expression

AIM: To investigated the status of low-density lipoprotein (LdL)-receptor and angiotensionogen gene expression in rats treated chronically with ethanol followed by binge administration, a model that mimics the human scenario. METHOdS: Rats were chronically treated with ethanol in liquid diet for 4 wk followed by a single binge mode of ethanol administration (5 mg/kg body weight). Samples were processed 4 h after binge ethanol administration (chronic ethanol binge). Control rats were fed isocaloric diet. In the control for binge, ethanol was replaced by water. Expression of mRNA for angioten-sinogen, c-fos and LdL-receptor, and nuclear accumulation of phospho-extracellular regulated kinases (ERK)1/2 and ERK1/2 protein were examined. RESULTS: Binge ethanol administration in chronically treated rats caused increase in steatosis and necrosis. Chronic ethanol alone had negligible effect on mRNA levels of LdL-receptor, or on the levels of nuclear ERK1/2 and phospho-ERK1/2. But, chronic ethanol followed by binge caused a decrease in LdL-receptor mRNA, and also decreased the levels of ERK1/2 and phospho-ERK1/2 in the nuclear compartment. On the other hand, chronic ethanol-binge increased mRNA expression of angiotensinogen and c-fos. CONCLUSION: Binge ethanol after chronic exposure, causes transcriptional dysregulation of LdL-receptor and angiotensinogen genes, both cardiovascular risk factors.

We consider a locally rotationally symmetric(LRS)Bianchi type-Ⅱspacetime with a perfect fluid and a variable cosmological constant∧.To solve the Einstein field equations we consider the cosmological term∧to be proportional to R^(-m) with R being the scale factor and m a constant[***.d 58(1998)043506].In this model we obtain∧~H^(2),∧~(R)/R and Larnbda~t^(-2),in agreement with the main dynamical laws for the decay of∧.The physical significance of the cosmological model is also discussed.

We have developed a simple one-step process for synthesis of ternary quantum dots(ZnCdSe,MgCdSe) with photoluminescence wavelengths ranging from the red to the blue region of the visible *** primary aim of this work was to develop a synthesis for the preparation of Cd-containing quantum dots using a Cd precursor with lower toxicity than those used in common syntheses. This synthesis makes use of Cd(acac)_2 which is significantly less toxic than precursors such as CdO and CdCl_2. We have studied the effect of solvent boiling point, precursors and reaction time on the photoluminescence properties of the ternary quantum dots. Ternary quantum dots synthesized from Cd(acac)_2 in low boiling point solvents have photoluminescence wavelengths in the blue region, while those synthesized in high boiling point solvents have photoluminescence wavelengths in the red region.

Herpes simplex virus type-1 (HSV-1) is one of many pathogens that use the cell surface glycosaminoglycan heparan sulfate as a receptor. Heparan sulfate is highly expressed on the surface and extracellular matrix of virtually all cell types making it an ideal receptor. Heparan sulfate interacts with HSV-1 envelope glycoproteins gB and gC during the initial attachment step during HSV-1 entry. In addition,a modified form of heparan sulfate,known as 3-O-sulfated heparan sulfate,interacts with HSV-1 gd to induce fusion between the viral envelope and host cell membrane. The 3-O-sulfation of heparan sulfate is a rare modification which occurs during the biosynthesis of heparan sulfate that is carried out by a family of enzymes known as 3-O-sulfotransferases. due to its involvement in multiple steps of the infection process,heparan sulfate has been a prime target for the development of agents to inhibit HSV entry. Understanding how heparan sulfate functions during HSV-1 infection may not only be critical for inhibiting infection by this virus,but it may also be crucial in the fight against many other pathogens as well.

BACKGROUNd Surgical resection is a treatment of choice for gallbladder cancer(GBC)patients but only 10%of patients have a resectable disease at *** after surgical resection,overall survival(OS)has been poor due to high rates of *** of surgery and systemic therapy can improve outcomes in this aggressive *** To summarize our single-center experience with multimodality management of resectable GBC *** data of all patients undergoing surgery for suspected GBC from January 2012 to december 2018 was retrieved from a prospectively maintained electronic *** extracted included demographics,operative and perioperative details,histopathology,neoadjuvant/adjuvant therapy,follow-up,and *** know the factors associated with recurrence and OS,univariate and multivariate analysis was done using log rank test and cox proportional hazard analysis for categorical and continuous variables,*** analysis was done using multiple regression *** Of 274 patients with GBC taken up for surgical resection,172(62.7%)were female and the median age was 56 *** exploration,102 patients were found to have a metastatic or unresectable disease(distant metastasis in 66 and locally unresectable in 34).Of 172 patients who finally underwent surgery,93(54%)underwent wedge resection followed by anatomical segment IVb/V resection in 66(38.4%)and modified extended right hepatectomy in 12(7%)*** postoperative mortality at 90 d was 4.6%.during a median follow-up period of 20 mo,71(41.2%)patients developed *** 1-,3-,and 5-years OS rates were 86.5%,56%,and 43.5%,*** 1-and 3-year disease free survival(dFS)rates were 75%and 49.2%,*** multivariate analysis,inferior OS was seen with pT3/T4 tumor(P=0.0001),perineural invasion(P=0.0096),and R+resection(P=0.0125).However,only pT3/T4 tumors were associated with a poor dFS(P<0.0001).CONCLUSION Multim

Let G be a group and H be a subgroup of G which is either finite or of finite index in G. In this paper, we give some characterizations for the normality of H in G. As a consequence we get a very short and elementary proof of the main theorem of a paper of Lal and shukla, which avoids the use of the classification of finite simple groups. Further, we study the isotopy between the transversals in some groups and determine the number of isotopy classes of transversals of a subgroup of order 2 in d2p, the dihedral group of order 2p, where p is an odd prime and the isotopism classes are formed with respect to induced right loop structures.

Most studies on liquefaction have addressed homogeneous soil strata using sand or sand with fine content without considering soil *** this study,cyclic triaxial tests were conducted on the stratified sand specimens embedded with the silt layers to investigate the liquefaction failures and void-redistribution at confining stress of 100 kPa under stress-controlled *** loosening of underlying sand mass and hindrance to pore-water flow caused localized bulging at the sand-silt *** is observed that at a silt thickness of 0.2H(H is the height of the specimen),nearly 187 load cycles were required to attain liquefaction,which was the highest among all the silt thicknesses with a single silt ***,0.2H is assumed as the optimum silt thickness(t_(opt)).The silt was placed at the top,middle and bottom of the specimen to understand the effect of silt layer *** to the increase in depth of the silt layer from the top position(capped soil state)to the bottom,the cycles to reach liquefaction(N_(cyc,L))increased 2.18 ***,when the number of silt layers increased from single to triple,there was an increase of about 880%in N_(cyc,L).The micro-characterization analysis of the soil specimens indicated silty materials transported in upper sections of the specimen due to the dissipated pore *** main parameters,including thickness(t),location(z),cyclic stress ratio(CSR),number of silt layers(n)and modified relative density(d_(r,m)),performed significantly in governing the lique-faction *** this,a multilinear regression model is developed based on critical parameters for prediction of N_(cyc,L).Furthermore,the developed constitutive model has been validated using the data from the present study and earlier findings.

An indicator-based approach to assess village-level social and biophysical vulnerability of agriculture communities in Uttarakhand,India

With the growing recognition to myriad forms of current and future threats in the mountain agriculture systems,there is a pressing need to holistically understand the vulnerability of mountain agriculture *** study aims to assess the biophysical and social vulnerability of agriculture communities using an indicator-based approach for the state of Uttarakhand,India.A total of 14 indicators were used to capture biophysical vulnerability and 22 for social vulnerability profiles of15285 *** analysis was done at village level with weights assigned to each indicator using Analytical Hierarchical Process(AHP).The results of the study highlight the presence of very high biophysical vulnerability(0.82 ± 0.10) and high social vulnerability(0.65 ± 0.15) within the *** on the results,it was found that incidences of high biophysical vulnerability coincide with presence of intensified agriculture land and absence of dense *** social vulnerability scores were found in villages with an absence of local institutions(like Self Helping Groups(SHGs)),negligible infrastructure facilities and higher occupational dependence on agriculture.A contrast was observed in the vulnerability scores of villages present in the three different altitudinal zones in the study area,indicating respective vulnerability generating conditions existing in these three *** vulnerability was recorded to be highest in the villages falling in the lower zone and lowest in the upper zone villages;whereas,social vulnerability was found to be highest in the middle zone villages and lowest in lower zone *** study aids policy makers in identifying areas for intervention to expedite agriculture adaptation planning in the ***,the adaptation programmes in the region need to be more context-specific to accommodate the differential altitudinal vulnerability profiles.

Applying the classical Lie symmetry approach to the barotropic and quasi-geostrophic potential vorticity equation without forcing and dissipation on a β-plane channel, we find a new symmetry, which is not presented in a previous work [F. Huang, Commun. Theor. Phys. （Beijing, China） 42 （2004） 903]. A general finite transformation group is obtained based on the full Lie point symmetry, Furthermore, two new types of similarity reduction solutions are obtained.
