Ob.ective:Asthma can b. a disab.ing disease and despite advances in pharmacology,the prevalence of this condition glob.lly remains high and accounts for a significant proportion of pub.ic health care *** pharmacology is the mainstay of asthma management,drug side effects have promoted alternative therapeutic interventions,such as *** points have a lower skin impedance compared to non-acupuncture *** impairment is associated with changes in skin impedance at system-specific acupuncture *** of skin impedance changes may assist in the early diagnosis of asthma and monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions for this ***:This study compared skin impedance at acupuncture point Dingchuan(EX-b.),in 92 sub.ects with normal health(47 sub.ects,age 32.6 ±1.67yr) and those diagnosed with asthma(45 sub.ects,age 42.4 ±1.80 yr).Skin impedance was measured using a 2-electrode impedance meter b.laterally at EX-b.,0.5 "cun" lateral to the lower b.rder of 7th cervical ***:The study showed that skin impedance was significantly higher at acupuncture point EX-b. in sub.ects with asthma(29.4 ± 21 kΩ) compared to sub.ects with normal health(13.8±7.9 kΩ)(P=0.013).Skin impedance was negatively correlated to forced expiratory volume in 1 second(FEV1,r=-0.59,P=0.012 in females;and r=-0.68,P=0.015 in males).A receiver operator characteristic(ROC) curve revealed an optimum cut-off point of 35 kΩ for male and 10 kΩ for female ***:We conclude that EX-b. skin impedance is higher in patients with asthma and skin impedance might b. a possib.e adjunctive parameter for assisting diagnosis and monitoring asthmatic status.

In b.rkina Faso, human activities are practiced in Nazinga Game Ranch (NGR) which is colonized b. West African crocodiles Crocodylus suchus (Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire 1807) decades ago. This study which aims to estimate impact of anthropogenic activities on ab.ndance of C. suchus has b.en conducted in NGR reservoirs. For data collection, C. suchus populations were counted morning, afternoon and night from Octob.r 2015 to May 2017 in 11 reservoirs. b.noculars were used for remote ob.ervations and spotlight was used b. night. According to the size of the sites and its accessib.lity, direct ob.ervations were carried out on foot or b. canoe. Every time we ob.erved crocodiles, they were numb.red and added information such as their size, their b.havior, geographical coordinates and the type of hab.tat were collected. Human activities were noted after direct ob.ervations. The R software version 3.5.3 was used for data analysis. A total of 1849 crocodiles including hatchlings, juveniles, sub.dults and adults were counted in these 11 reservoirs of the NGR. They were more ab.ndant in reservoirs than rivers with highest ab.ndances in Akalon, Akwazena, Kalieb.ulou and b.rka. Crocodile showed very high visib.lity at night their ab.ndances showed important correlation with human activities and environmental factors such as roads, fishing, tourism, moon phases and “died crocodiles” and in NGR.

Aerob.c, heterotrophic b.cteria, recovered from two sites located on the west coast of Scotland, were compared to cultures ob.ained in a similar way from industrial, aquacultural and clean sites in the vicinity of Qingdao, Shandong, P.R. China. Gram-negative b.cterial cultures were examined b. b.OLOG-GN, and the data analysed b. the simple matching (S SM) and Jaccard coefficients (S J) and unweighted average linkage clustering using NTSys. The output revealed that 20% of the b.cteria, namely, Acinetob.cter johnsonii, Aquaspirillum dispar, Pseudomonas spp. (two groups), Sphingob.cterium sp., Vib.io sp., V. campb.llii, V. mimicus and V. hollisae, were common b.tween the two geographical locations. However, the study revealed shortcomings with the b.OLOG-GN system for the study of coastal Gram-negative b.cteria.

Anti-plane deformation of square lattices containing interphases is analyzed. It is assumed that lattices are linear elastic b.t not necessarily isotropic, whereas interphases exhib.t non-linear elastic b.havior. It is demonstrated that such prob.ems can b. treated effectively using Green＇s functions, which allow to eliminate the degrees of freedom outside of the interphase. Illustrative numerical examples focus on the determination of applied stresses leading to lattice instab.lity.

A discrete element model b.sed on super-ellipsoids was used to simulate cylindrical particle flow. The model can describ. a cylindrical particle accurately provided the shape indices of the super-ellipsoids are set to appropriate values. To achieve more rapid calculations, we implemented an "oriented b.unding b.x algorithm"(Ob.A) for the initial contact detection of cylindrical particles. Several types of Simulations were performed to validate the super-ellipsoid model and the contact-detection algorithm. First, the effect of shape index of the super-ellipsoids on model accuracy was investigated through three simulations: impact of a cylindrical particle on a flat wall, flow of cylindrical particles in a rotating tumb.er, and segregation of cylindrical particles of different length flowing down a b.unded heap. The simulation results show that the super-ellipsoids describ. cylindrical particles accurately when the shape index that specifies the sharpness of the cylinder edges is sufficiently large. The efficiency of the Ob.A is measured b. simulations in which a b.x is filled with cylindrical particles and a tumb.er that contains cylindrical particles is rotated. The simulation results show that the Ob.A can accelerate the calculations significantly. The effect of particle shape (such as aspect ratio and shape index) on the calculation speed was ob.ained. The simulation of rod-like particles tended to take more calculation time than that of disk-like particles, and the simulation time increased with an increasing particle-shape index.

Fluxing Agents on Ceramification of Composites of MgO-Al2O3-SiO2/b.ron Phenolic Resin

Fluxing agents of zinc b.rate, antimony oxide, galss frit A and glass frit b. with different melting or softening point temperatures, were added into MgO-Al_2O_3-SiO_2/b.ron phenol formaldehyde resin（MAS/b.F） composites to lower the formation temperature of eutectic liquid phase and promote the ceramification of ceramifiab.e composites. The effects of fluxing agents on the thermogravimetric properties, phase evolution, and microstructure evolution of MAS/b.F composites were characterized b. TG-DSC, XRD and SEM analyses. The results reveal that the addition of a fluxing agent highly reduces the decomposition rate of MAS/b.F composites. Fluxing agents lower the formation temperatures of liquid phases of ceramifiab.e MAS/b.F composites ob.iously, and then promote the ceramification and densification process. The final residues of composites are ceramic surrounded b. large amount of glass phases.

Mitigating the heat stress via a derivative policy is a vital financial option for agricultural producers and other b.siness sectors to strategically adapt to the climate change scenario. This study has provided an approach to identifying heat stress events and pricing the heat stress weather derivative due to persistent days of high surface air temperature （SAT）. Cooling degree days （CDD） are used as the weather index for trade. In this study, a call-option model was used as an example for calculating the price of the index. Two heat stress indices were developed to describ. the severity and physical impact of heat waves. The daily Glob.l Historical Climatology Network （GHCN-D） SAT data from 1901 to 2007 from the southern California, USA, were used. A major California heat wave that occurred 20-25 Octob.r 1965 was studied. The derivative price was calculated b.sed on the call-option model for b.th long-term station data and the interpolated grid point data at a regular 0.1~ x0.1~ latitude-longitude grid. The resulting comparison indicates that （a） the interpolated data can b. used as reliab.e proxy to price the CDD and （b. a normal distrib.tion model cannot always b. used to reliab.y calculate the CDD price. In conclusion, the data, models, and procedures describ.d in this study have potential application in hedging agricultural and other risks.

The CELLULOSE SYNTHASE-LIKE C （CSLC） family is an ancient lineage within the CELLULOSE SYNTHASE/CELLULOSE SYNTHASE-LIKE （CESA/CSL） polysaccharide synthase superfamily that is thought to have arisen b.fore the divergence of mosses and vascular plants. As studies in the flowering plant Arab.dopsis have suggested synthesis of the （1,4）-β-glucan b.ckb.ne of xyloglucan （XyG）, a wall polysaccharide that tethers adjacent cellulose microfib.ils to each other, as a prob.b.e function for the CSLCs, CSLC function was investigated in b.rley （Hordeum vulgate L.）, a species with low amounts of XyG in its walls. Four b.rley CSLCgenes were identified （designated HvCSLC1-4）. Phylogenetic analysis reveals three well supported clades of CSLCs in flowering plants, with b.rley having representatives in two of these clades. The four b.rley CSLCs were expressed in various tissues, with in situ PCR detecting transcripts in all cell types of the coleoptile and root, including cells with primary and secondary cell walls. Co-expression analysis showed that HvCSLC3 was coordinately expressed with putative XyG xylosyltransferase genes. b.th immuno-EM and memb.ane fractionation showed that HvCSLC2 was located in the plasma memb.ane of b.rley suspension-cultured cells and was not in internal memb.anes such as endoplasmic reticulum or Golgi apparatus. b.sed on our current knowledge of the sub.cellular locations of polysaccharide synthesis, we conclude that the CSLC family prob.b.y contains more than one type of polysaccharide synthase.
