Optical mesoscopic membrane sensor layouts for waterfree and blood-free toxicants

Advances in fabrication of mesoscopic membrane sensors with unique structures and morphologies inside anodic alumina membrane （AAM） nanochannels have led to the development of various methods for detecting, visualizing, adsorbing, filtering, and recovering ultra-trace concentrations of toxic metal ions, such as Hg^2＋ and Pb^2＋, in water and blood. These often ＂one-pot＂ screening methods offer advantages over conventional methods in that they do not require sophisticated instruments or laborious sample preparation. In the present study, we fabricated two mesoscopic membrane sensors for naked-eye detection, recognition, filtration, and recovery of Hg^2＋ and Pb^2＋ in biological and environmental samples. These sensors were characterized by the dense immobilization of organic colorants on the mesopore surfaces of silica nanotubes that were constructed using the nanochannels of an AAM as a scaffold. We confirmed that the nanotubes were oriented along the long axis of the AAM nanochannels, open at both ends, and completely and uniformly filled with organic colorants; also, the dense immobilization of the organic colorants did not affect the speed of ion-to-ligand binding events. We used simple, desk-top, flow-through assays to assess the suitability of the developed membrane sensors for detection, removal, and filtration of Hg^2＋ and Pb^2＋ with respect to recyclability and continuous monitoring. Removal of the target ions from biological fluids was assessed by means of flow cytometric analysis. Our results demonstrate the potential of our membrane sensors to be used for preventing the health risks associated with exposure to toxic metal ions in the environment and blood.

The role of polymorphic cytochrome P450 gene(CYP2B6)in B-chronic lymphocytic leukemia(B-CLL)incidence and outcome among Egyptian patients

Cytochromes P450(CYPs)play a prominent role in catalyzing phase I xenobiotic biotransformation and account for about 75%of the total metabolism of commercially available drugs,including *** gene expression and enzyme activity of CYPs are variable between individuals,which subsequently leads to different patterns of susceptibility to carcinogenesis by genotoxic xenobiotics,as well as differences in the efficacy and toxicity of clinically used *** research aimed to examine the presence of the CYP2B6*9 polymorphism and its possible association with the incidence of B-CLL in Egyptian patients,as well as the clinical outcome after receiving cyclophosphamide *** was isolated from whole blood samples of 100 de novo B-CLL cases and also from 100 sex-and age-matched healthy *** presence of the CYP2B6*9(G516T)polymorphism was examined by PCR-based allele specific amplification(AsA).Patients were further indicated for receiving chemotherapy,and then they were followed *** CYP2B6*9 variant indicated a statistically significant higher risk of B-CLL under different genetic models,comprising allelic(T-allele vs.G-allele,OR=4.8,psphamide chemotherapy,we found that the patients with variant genotypes(GT+TT)were less likely to achieve remission compared to those with the wild-type genotype(GG),with a response percentage of(37.5%vs.83%,respectively).In conclusion,our findings showed that the CYP2B6*9(G516T)polymorphism is associated with B-CLL susceptibility among Egyptian *** variant greatly affected the clinical outcome and can serve as a good therapeutic marker in predicting response to cyclophosphamide treatment.

New Technique for Medial Patellar Desmotomy in Cattle and Donkeys

The present technique is designed to transect the medial patellar ligament indicated for treatment of upward fixation of patella in cattle and donkeys. A medial patellar desmotomy was performed first on cadavers and then on 21 live cattle or donkeys. In live animals under local anesthesia, a sterile silk strand (UsP 1) mounted on a curved needle is inserted through skin at the medial aspect of the medial patellar ligament to the subcutaneous fascia and directed beneath the ligament to emerge at opposite side. The silk is then sawed to cut the ligament. In contrast to other procedures, the desmotomy is less invasive as skin at the surgical site is not incised, pericapsular fat and joint capsules not invaded, and the ligament is fully transected in a one-step procedure. Minimal tissue invasiveness limited infection of surgical site, minimized bleeding, and decreased related postoperative consequences.

Assembly of yield heterosis of an elite rice hybrid is promising by manipulating dominant quantitative trait loci

Hepatitis C virus(HCV) is a major health problem worldwide. Early detection of the infection will help better management of the infected cases. The monoclonal antibodies(m Ab) of mice are predominantly used for the immunodiagnosis of several viral,bacterial,and parasitic antigens. serological detection of HCV antigens and antibodies provide simple and rapid methods of detection but lack sensitivity specially in the window phase between the infection and antibody development. Human mA b are used in the immunotherapy of several blood malignancies,such as lymphoma and leukemia,as well as for autoimmune diseases. In this review article,we will discuss methods of mouse and human monoclonal antibody production. We will demonstrate the role of mouse mA b in the detection of HCV antigens as rapid and sensitive immunodiagnostic assays for the detection of HCV,which is a major health problem throughout the world,particularly in Egypt. We will discuss the value of HCV-neutralizing antibodies and their roles in the immunotherapy of HCV infections and in HCV vaccine development. We will also discuss the different mechanisms by which the virus escape the effect of neutralizing mA b. Finally,we will discuss available and new trends to produce antibodies,such as egg yolk-based antibodies(Ig Y),production in transgenic plants,and the synthetic antibody mimics approach.
