Allograft pretreatment for the repair of sciatic nerve defects: green tea polyphenols versus radiation

Pretreatment of nerve allografts by exposure to irradiation or green tea polyphenols can elimi- nate neuroimmunogenicity, inhibit early immunological rejection, encourage nerve regeneration and functional recovery, improve tissue preservation, and minimize postoperative infection. In the present study, we investigate which intervention achieves better results. We produced a 1.0 cm sciatic nerve defect in rats, and divided the rats into four treatment groups： autograft, fresh nerve allograft, green tea polyphenol-pretreated （1 mg/mL, 4~C） nerve allograft, and irradiation-pre- treated nerve allograft （26.39 Gy/min for 12 hours; total 19 kGy）. The animals were observed, and sciatic nerve electrophysiology, histology, and transmission electron microscopy were carried out at 6 and 12 weeks after grafting. The circumference and structure of the transplanted nerve in rats that received autografts or green tea polyphenol-pretreated nerve allografts were similar to those of the host sciatic nerve. Compared with the groups that received fresh or irradiation-pre- treated nerve allografts, motor nerve conduction velocity in the autograft and fresh nerve allograft groups was greater, more neurites grew into the aUografts, Schwann cell proliferation was evident, and a large number of new blood vessels was observed; in addition, massive myelinated nerve fibers formed, and abundant microfilaments and microtubules were present in the axoplasm. Our findings indicate that nerve allografts pretreated by green tea polyphenols are equivalent to trans- planting autologous nerves in the repair of sciatic nerve defects, and promote nerve regeneration. Pretreatment using green tea polyphenols is better than pretreatment with irradiation.

Application of Tandem Cascade to Design of Fan Stator with Supersonic Inflow

This article proposes a tandem cascade constructed to tackle the thorny problem of designing the high-loaded stator with a supersonic inflow and a large turning angle. The front cascade adopts a supersonic profile to reduce the shock wave intensity turning the flow into subsonic,while the rear cascade adopts a subsonic profile with a large camber offering the flow a large turning angle. It is disclosed that the losses would be minimized if the leading edge of the rear cas- cade lies close to the pressure side of the front cascade at a distance of 20% pitch in pitch-wise direction without either axial spacing or overlapping in axial direction. The 2D numerical test results show that,with the inflow Mach number of 1.25 and the turning angle of 52° ,the total pressure loss coefficient of the tandem cascade reaches 0. 106 ,and the diffusion factor 0. 745. Finally,this article has designed and simulated a high-loaded fan stage with the proposed tandem stator,which has the pressure ratio of 3.15 and the efficiency of 86.32% at the rotor tip speed of 495.32 m/s.

Macroangiopathy is a complication of Type II Diabetes Mellitus(T2 DM),which is mainly caused by fibrosis of blood *** T2 DM rat models,we investigated whether the traditional Chinese medicine,Di-Dang Decoction(DDD),exhibited antifibrotic actions on great vessels.T2 DM rats were randomly divided into non-intervention group,early-,middle-,late-stage DDD intervention groups and control groups,including pioglitazone group and aminoguanidine *** administration of DDD to T2 DM rats at different times,we detected the amount of extracellular matrix(ECM)deposition in the thoracic *** results showed that early-stage intervention with DDD could effectively protect great vessels from ECM *** that TGF-β1 is the master regulator of fibrosis,we further validated at the molecular level that,compared to middle-and late-stage intervention with DDD,early-stage intervention with DDD could significantly decrease the expression levels of factors related to the activated TGF-β1/Smad signalling pathway,as well as the expression levels of downstream effectors including CTGF,MMP and TIMP family proteins,which were directly involved in ECM ***,early-stage intervention with DDD can reduce macrovascular fibrosis and prevent diabetic macroangiopathy.

Petroleum substitution, greenhouse gas emissions reduction and environmental benefits from the development of natural gas vehicles in China

This study develops a bottom-up model to quantitatively assess the comprehensive effects of replacing traditional petroleum-powered vehicles with natural gas vehicles（NGVs） in China based on an investigation of the direct energy consumption and critical air pollutant（CAP） emission intensity, life-cycle energy use and greenhouse gas（GHG） emission intensity of NGV fleets. The results indicate that, on average, there are no net energy savings from replacing a traditional fuel vehicle with an NGV. Interestingly, an NGV results in significant reductions in direct CAP and life-cycle GHG emissions compared to those of a traditional fuel vehicle, ranging from 61% to 76% and 12% to 29%, respectively. Due to the increasing use of natural gas as a vehicle fuel in China（i.e. approximately 28.2 billion cubic metres of natural gas in2015）, the total petroleum substituted with natural gas was approximately 23.8 million tonnes（Mt）, which generated a GHG emission reduction of 16.9 Mt of CO2 equivalent and a CAP emission reduction of 1.8 Mt in 2015. Given the significant contribution of NGVs, growing the NGV population in 2020 will further increase the petroleum substitution benefits and CAP and GHG emission reduction benefits by approximately 42.5 Mt of petroleum-based fuel, 3.1 Mt of CAPs and 28.0 Mt of GHGs. By 2030, these benefits will reach 81.5 Mt of traditional petroleum fuel, 5.6 Mt of CAPs and 50.5 Mt of GHGs, respectively.

Designing non-noble electrocatalysts with low-cost and efficient is crucial to the development of sustainable and clean energy ***,we synthesized a novel S-CoSe_(2)/CoMoO_(4) and O-CoSe_(2)/CoMoO_(4) hybrid electrocatalysts for the HER and OER,*** due to the synergetic chemical coupling effects between CoSe_(2)/DETA and CoMoO_(4),and the introduction of S heteroatom and oxygen vacancy,this hybrid could expose enough active edges,and then promoted the constructed hybrid displayed superior hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER)catalytic *** S-CoSe_(2)/CoMoO_(4) sample afforded a current density of 10 mAcm^(-2) at a small overpotential of 177 mV and a small Tafel slope of 54 mV dec^(-1).Moreover,the oxidized CoSe_(2)/CoMoO_(4)(O-CoSe_(2)/CoMoO_(4))also displayed a remarkable catalytic property for OER with a small Tafel slope of 43 mV dec^(-1),as well as excellent stability in 1.0 M ***,this noblemetal-free and highly efficient catalyst enables prospective applications for electrochemical applications.

Two gadolinium polyoxometalates, KCs4[Gd（a-SiW11O39）].25HzO（POM-1） and K13[Gd（f12-SiWllO39）a]·27H2O（POM-2）, have been evaluated as the candidates of potential magnetic resonance imaging Tl（longitudinal relaxation） contrast agents. Longitudinal relaxivities of POM-2 are much higher than those of POM-1 in pure water and protein solution, respectively. However, compared with POM-1, POM-2 interacts with protein more strongly through electrostatic interaction, which is comfirmed by the fluoresence quenching of human serum albumin（HSA） in solu- tions with different polyoxometalate concentrations. Meanwhile, POM-1 presentes much lower cytotoxicity in the cell viability tests.

Despite improvement in cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR)performance,cardiac arrest(CA)is still associated with poor *** high mortality rate is due to multi-organ dysfunction caused by cerebral ischemia and reperfusion injury(I/R).The guidelines for CPR suggest the use of therapeutic hypothermia(TH)as an effective treatment to decrease mortality and the only approach confirmed to reduce I/R *** TH,sedative agents(propofol)and analgesia agents(fentanyl)are commonly used to prevent shiver and ***,propofol has been associated with a number of serious adverse effects such as metabolic acidosis,cardiac asystole,myocardial failure,and *** addition,mild TH alters the pharmacokinetics of agents(propofol and fentanyl)and reduces their systemic *** CA patients undergoing TH,propofol can be overdosed,leading to delayed awakening,prolonged mechanical ventilation,and other subsequent ***(HSK3486)is a novel anesthetic agent that is convenient and easy to administer intravenously outside the operating *** is rapidly metabolized and accumulates at low concentrations after continuous infusion in a stable circulatory system compared to ***,we hypothesized that treatment with HSK3486 and mild TH after CA could protect the brain and other organs.
