Method to measure tree-ring width,density,elemental composition,and stable carbon and oxygen isotopes using one sample

Tree-ring width(RW),density,elemental com-position,and stable carbon and oxygen isotope(δ^(13)C,δ^(18)O)are widely used as proxies to assess climate change,ecology,and environmental pollution;however,a specific pretreat-ment has been needed for each ***,we developed a method by which each proxy can be measured in the same ***,the sample is polished for ring width *** obtaining the ring width data,the sample is cut to form a 1-mm-thick wood *** sample is then mounted in a vertical sample holder,and gradually scanned by an X-ray ***,the count rates of the fluorescent photons of elements(for chemical characteriza-tion)and a radiographic grayscale image(for wood density)are obtained,*** density and the element content are ***,cellulose is isolated from the 1-mm wood plate by removal of lignin,and *** producing this cellulose plate,cellulose subsamples are separated by knife under the microscope for inter-annual and intra-annual stable carbon and oxygen isotope(δ^(13)C,δ^(18)O)*** on this method,RW,density,elemental composition,δ^(13)C,and δ^(18)O can be measured from the same sample,which reduces sample amount and treatment time,and is helpful for multi-proxy comparison and combination research.

The variation law of inclusions type and size in the vacuum induction melting process and ingot of Ni-based superalloy containing 70%return material was studied by industrial test sampling,and the mechanism of inclusions formation was analyzed with thermodynamic *** results show that there are mainly two types of composite inclusions in the vacuum induction melting of Ni-based superalloys,which are nitride-and oxide-based composite inclusions,like Al_(2)O_(3)-SiO_(2)-Cr_(2)O_(3),TiN-(Mo,Nb)C,*** type and proportion of inclusions from the center to the edge of the vacuum induction ingot did not change *** number density of inclusions from the center to the edge of the ingot varied less,and the size of inclusions became smaller from the center to the *** addition,thermodynamic calculations show that oxides(M_(2)O_(3))are present in the liquid phase and mainly contain Al,Ti,Cr,Fe and O *** nitride consists mainly of Ti and N and contains small amounts of Cr,C,Nb,and Mo *** is consistent with the results of industrial *** the temperature decreases,the precipitation phases such as M_(2)O_(3),MN,γ,MC,δ,γ'andμphases are gradually precipitated,where oxides and nitrides are present in the liquid *** contents of O and N elements are the main influencing factors for the inclusions content and precipitation temperature;when the nitrogen content is reduced to below 0.0015%,it can make MN precipitate below the liquid-phase line.

The rational and effective combination of multicomponent materials and ingenious microstructure design for efficient electromagnetic wave(EMW)absorption are still *** this paper,MXene was used as the aerogel matrix,modified with sea urchin-like magnetic Co/N-doped carbon@polyaniline(Co-NC@PANI),gelatin was introduced as the reinforcement phase of the aerogel backbone,and a microwave absorber with high efficiency and excellent performance was successfully *** sea urchin-like Co-NC@PANI not only adjusted the impedance matching of the MXene but also introduced a magnetic loss mode into the *** multicomponent interfacial polarization,heterostructure,three-dimensional(3D)lightweight porous structure,and electromagnetic synergy strategy enabled the MXene-based aerogel modified by Co-NC@PANI(MCoP)to exhibit surprising EMW absorption *** maximum reflection loss(RL_(max))of the aerogel composite reached-62.4 dB,and the effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)reached 6.56 GHz when the loading was only 12%.In addition,through electromagnetic simulation experiments,the change in the electromagnetic field before and after EMW passed through the materials and the distribution of the volume loss density of EMW by the coaxial ring were *** coordinated electromagnetic balance strategy in the 3D network provides inspiration for the construction of materials and expands the research direction of lightweight and outstanding microwave absorbers.

Thermal treatment can effectively decontaminate soils but alter their *** research mainly focused on volatile organic compounds andmetals,***,neglecting nonvolatile metal(loid)*** study aimed to investigate Cd and As transformation during aerobic and anaerobic *** results showed that both aerobic and anaerobic calcination increased soil pH by reducing soil organic matter(SOM)content,which also influenced the cation exchange capacity(CEC)and the leaching behavior of Cd and As in the *** total concentrations of Cd and As in the calcined soils varied depending on the calcination temperature and *** the aerobic calcination temperature exceeded 700℃,Cd volatilized as CdCl_(2),while anaerobic calcination at relatively low temperatures(600℃)involved reductive reactions,resulting in the formation of metallic Cd with a lower boiling ***,As volatilized at 800℃aerobically and 600℃*** formation of As-based minerals,particularly Ca3(AsO4)2,hindered its gasification,whereas anaerobic calcination promoted volatilization efficiency through the generation of C-As(III)based gaseous components with lower boiling *** trends were observed in the TCLP-extractable Cd and As contents of the calcined *** 70%of TCLP-extractable Cd contents were suppressed after thermal treatment,attributed to the elevated pH and reduced CEC of the soil,as well as ***,TCLP-extractable As contents increased with elevated temperatures,likely due to the desorption of AsO43−and re-adsorption of gaseous As2O3 during *** findings have implications for assessing the environmental impact of thermal treatment and provide insights for remediation strategies concerning Cd and As-contaminated soils.

Manipulating strain mode and degree that can be applied to epitaxial complex oxide thin films have been a cornerstone of strain *** recent years,lift-off and transfer technology of the epitaxial oxide thin films have been developed that enabled the integration of heterostructures without the limitation of material types and crystal ***,twisted integration would provide a more interesting strategy in artificial magnetoelectric heterostructures.A specific twist angle between the ferroelectric and ferromagnetic oxide layers corresponds to the distinct strain regulation modes in the magnetoelectric coupling process,which could provide some insight in to the physical *** this work,the La_(0.67)Sr_(0.33)MnO_(3)(001)/0.7Pb(Mg_(1/3)Nb_(2/3))O_(3)-0.3PbTiO_(3)(011)(LSMO/PMN-PT)heterostructures with *** *** angles were assembled via water-etching and transfer *** transferred LSMO films exhibit a fourfold magnetic anisotropy with easy axis along LSMO.A coexistence of uniaxial and fourfold magnetic anisotropy with LSMO[110]easy axis is observed for the 45°Sample by applying a 7.2 kV cm^(−1)electrical field,significantly different from a uniaxial anisotropy with LSMO[100]easy axis for the 0°*** fitting of the ferromagnetic resonance field reveals that the strain coupling generated by the 45°twist angle causes different lattice distortion of LSMO,thereby enhancing both the fourfold and uniaxial *** work confirms the twisting degrees of freedom for magnetoelectric coupling and opens opportunities for fabricating artificial magnetoelectric heterostructures.

As a global strategic reserve resource,rare earth has been widely used in important industries,such as military equipment and ***,existing analyses based solely on the total volume of rare earth trade fail to uncover the underlying competition and dependency *** address this gap,this paper employs the principles of trade preference and import similarity to construct dependency and competition *** network analysis is then employed to study the evolution of the global rare earth trade network from 2002 to *** main conclusions are as *** global rare earth trade follows the Pareto principle,and the trade network shows a scale-free *** has emerged as the world’s largest importer and exporter of rare earth since *** the dependency network,China has become the most dependent country since *** result of community division shows that China has separated from the American community and formed new communities with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN)*** United States of America has formed a super-strong community with European and Asian *** the competition network,the distribution of competition intensity follows a scale-free *** countries face low-intensity competition,but there are numerous competing *** competition related to China has increased ***,the competition source for the United States of America has shifted from Mexico to China,resulting in China,the USA,and Japan becoming the core participants in the competition network.

Nitrogen vacancy(NV)color centers in diamond have useful applications in quantum sensing andﬂuorescent *** can be gen-erated experimentally by ion implantation,femtosecond lasers,and chemical vapor ***,there is a lack of studies of the yield of NV color centers at the atomic *** the molecular dynamics simulations described in this paper,NV color centers are pre-pared by ion implantation in diamond with pre-doped nitrogen and subsequent *** differences between the yields of NV color centers produced by implantation of carbon(C)and nitrogen(N)ions,respectively,are *** is found that C-ion implantation gives a greater yield of NV color centers and superior location *** effects of different pre-doping concentrations(400–1500 ppm)and implantation energies(1.0–3.0 keV)on the NV color center yield are analyzed,and it is shown that a pre-doping concentra-tion of 1000 ppm with 2 keV C-ion implantation can produce a 13%yield of NV color centers after 1600 K annealing for 7.4 ***,a brief comparison of the NV color center identiﬁcation methods is presented,and it is found that the error rate of an analysis utiliz-ing the identify diamond structure coordination analysis method is reduced by about 7%compared with conventional identiﬁcation+methods.

Covalent triazine framework nanosheets (CTF NSs),an emerging class of two-dimensional nanomaterials,have received great attention due to their abundant active sites,permanent porosity,molecular structural diversity,superior chemical/thermal stability,and short charge diffusion path,enabling technological breakthroughs in a myriad of applications. The forefront developments and applications of CTF NSs as photocatalysts and electrochemical electrodes have conferred superior performance and made great impact in the field of energy and advanced catalysis. This forward-looking review aims to summarize the research trends,synthesis,properties of CTF NSs and their CTF counterpart,and highlight their progress in applications with respect to energy storage and conversion devices. Finally,the current challenges and future perspectives for CTF NSs are also presented.

The method of terahertz(THz)resonance with a high-quality(high-Q)factor offers a vital physical mechanism for metasurface sensors and other high-Q factor ***,it is challenging to excite the resonance with a high-Q factor in metasurfaces with proper sensitivity as well as figure of merit(FOM)***,an all-dielectric metasurface composed of two asymmetrical rectangular blocks is *** and silicon are the materials applied for the substrate and cuboids *** distinct resonance governed by bound states in the continuum(BIC)is excited by forming an asymmetric cluster by a novel hybrid method of cutting and moving the *** investigation focuses on analyzing the transmission spectra of the metasurface under different variations in structural parameters and the loss of silicon refractive *** the proposed defective metasurface serves as a transmittance sensor,it shows a Q factor of 1.08×10^(4)and achieves an FOM up to 4.8×10^(6),which is obtained under the asymmetric parameter equalling 1μ***,the proposed defective metasurface is sensitive to small changes in refractive *** the thickness of the analyte is 180μm,the sensitivity reaches a maximum value of 578 GHz/***,the proposed defective metasurface exhibits an extensive number of possible applications in the filters,biomedical diagnosis,security screening,and so on.
