Brightening heavily doped upconversion nanoparticles by tuning characteristics of core-shell structures

Heavily doped upconversion nanoparticles(UCNPs)potentially have exceptional photon upconversion abilities that are promising for diverse applications,such as lasing and super-resolution ***,heavily doped UCNPs typically can only offer mediocre upconversion luminescence intensity,and there still lacks general guidelines for the design and synthesis of heavily doped ***,in order to boost the upconversion luminescence of heavily doped UCNPs,we studied the influence of characteristics of the core-shell structure on heavily doped UCNPs'upconversion *** find that some empirical guidelines derived from conventional UCNPs are not suitable for heavily doped *** NaYbF_(4):Tm@NaYF_(4) core-shell UCNPs with a high concentration of Yb_(3+)as a representative,our studies reveal that a rather thick inert NaYF4 shell is needed to protect the UCNPs from surface quenching,and the upconversion luminescence may undergo the cooperative sensitization process,which should be due to the highly concentrated Yb~(3+)*** addition,the upconversion luminescence of heavily doped NaYbF4:Tm UCNPs exhibits no obvious dependence on the type of inert ***,our results show that confining both Yb~(3+)and Tm~(3+)dopants in a thin layer(known as theδ-doping strategy)does not work well in the heavily doped ***,we propose a NaYbF_(4):Tm@NaYbF_(4)@NaYF_(4) core-shell-shell structure to enhance the luminescence of heavily doped UCNPs,by weakening the dissipation of excitation energy and strengthening the *** findings should be helpful to establish general design principles for developing the brightest possible UCNPs that can meet the requirements of various applications.

Thermally Conductive,Healable Glass Fiber Cloth Reinforced Polymer Composite based onβ-Hydroxyester Bonds Crosslinked Epoxy with Improved Heat Resistance

To simultaneously endow thermal conductivity,high glass transition temperature(Tg)and healing capability to glass fiber/epoxy(GFREP)composite,dynamic crosslinked epoxy resin bearing reversibleβ-hydroxyl ester bonds was reinforced with boron nitride nanosheets modified glass fiber cloth(GFC@BNNSs).The in-plane heat conduction paths were constructed by electrostatic self-assembly of polyacrylic acid treated GFC and polyethyleneimine decorated ***,the GFC@BNNSs were impregnated with the mixture of lower concentration(3-glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane grafted BN micron sheets,3,4-epoxycyclohexylmethyl 3,4-epoxycyclohexanecarboxylate and hexahydro-4-methylphthalic anhydride,which accounted for establishing the through-plane heat transport pathways and avoiding serious deterioration of mechanical *** resultant GFREP composite containing less boron nitride particles(17.6 wt%)exhibited superior in-plane(3.29 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1))and through-plane(1.16 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1))thermal conductivities,as well as high Tg of 204℃(Tg of the unfilled epoxy=177℃).The reversible transesterification reaction enabled closure of interlaminar cracks within the composite,achieving decent healing efficiencies estimated by means of tensile strength(71.2%),electrical breakdown strength(83.6%)and thermal conductivity(69.1%).The present work overcame the disadvantages of conventional thermally conductive composites,and provided an efficient approach to prolong the life span of thermally conductive GFREP laminate for high-temperature resistant integrated circuit application.

Controllable split polarization singularities for ultra-precise displacement sensing

The topic of optical precise displacement measurement has garnered significant attention and generated widespread interest recently. The use of optical singularity offers a potential solution for this purpose, although effectively manipulating the singularity in an ideal manner remains challenging. In this work, we propose a theoretical approach to achieve controllable position modulation of the C-point in the focal plane, whose spatial position can be easily modulated by adjusting the relative offset factor β and the offset angle α of an azimuthal polarization beam(APB), while the interval and orientation of the C-points can be flexibly regulated. Notably, the chiral polarization state undergoes a distinct reversal along the link-line connecting the two C-points, thereby providing a promising approach for accurate displacement sensing. To evaluate its sensing characteristics, the varying pattern of the scattered field intensity is monitored when sweeping a gold helix and nanoparticle along the link-line. The results of simulation quality index Q verify that the equilibrium factor of the scattering field possesses an obvious linear relationship with the displacement, signifying a precise sub-nanometric *** research introduces new methods for the flexible control of polarization singularities in tightly focused fields,thereby enhancing the utilization of circular polarization properties near C-points for displacement *** findings not only enrich the field of nanometer measurement technology but also pave the way for new avenues of research in this domain.

Unlock the full potential of carbon cloth-based scaffolds towards magnesium metal storage via regulation on magnesiophilicity and surface geometric structure

The development of rechargeable magnesium(Mg) batteries is of practical significance to upgrade the electric energy storage devices due to exceptional capacity and abundant resources of Mg-metal ***,the reversible Mg electrochemistry suffers from unsatisfied rate capability and lifespan,mainly caused by non-uniform distribution of *** this work,a fresh design concept of threedimensional carbon cloths scaffolds is proposed to overcome the uncontrollable Mg growth via homogenizing electric field and improving magnesiophilicity.A microscopic smooth and nitrogen-containing defective carbonaceous layer is constructed through a facile pyrolysis of ZIF8 on carbon *** revealed by finite element simulation and DFT calculation results,the smooth surface endows with uniform electric field distribution and simultaneously the nitrogen-doping species enable good magnesiophilicity of *** fine and uniform Mg nucleus as well as the inner electrodeposit behavior are also *** a result,an exceptional cycle life of 500 cycles at 4.0 mA cm^(-2) and 4.0 mA h cm^(-2) is firstly realized to our best ***,the functional scaffolds can be cycled for over 2200 h at 2.0 mA cm^(-2) under a normalized capacity of 5.0 mA h cm^(-2),far exceeding previous *** work offers an effective approach to enable the full potential of carbon cloths-based scaffolds towards metal storage for next generation battery applications.

Contribution of Surface Waves to Sea Surface Temperatures in the Arctic Ocean

The aim of our study was to examine the contribution of surface waves from WAVEWATCH-III(WW3) to the variation in sea surface temperature(SST) in the Arctic Ocean. The simulated significant wave height(SWH) were validated against the products from Haiyang-2B(HY-2B) in 2021, obtaining a root mean squared error(RMSE) of 0.45 with a correlation of 0.96 and scatter index of 0.18. The wave-induced effects, i.e., wave breaking and mixing induced by nonbearing waves resulting in changes in radiation stress and Stokes drift, were calculated from WW3, ERA-5 wind, SST, and salinity data from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction and were taken as forcing fields in the Stony Brook Parallel Ocean Model. The results showed that an RMSE of 0.81℃ with wave-induced effects was less than the RMSE of 1.11℃ achieved without the wave term compared with the simulated SST with the measurements from Argos. Considering the four wave effects and sea ice freezing, the SST in the Arctic Ocean decreased by up to 1℃ in winter. Regression analysis revealed that the SWH was linear in SST(values without subtraction of waves) in summer and autumn, but this behavior was not observed in spring or winter due to the presence of sea ice. The interannual variation also presented a negative relationship between the difference in SST and SWH.

3-D Tunnel Seismic Advance Prediction Method with Wide Illumination and High-Precision

Tunnel seismic advance prediction can effectively reduce the construction risk during tunnel *** with the 2-D method,the 3-D method is more conducive to describing the spatial characteristics of the geological body by adding the seismic data in the vertical ***,some drawbacks still need improvement in the current 3-D tunnel seismic prediction method.(1)The geometry is complex,which is destructiveness,high cost,and time-consuming,and will delay the tunnel construction schedule.(2)Illumination of the anomalous body is insufficient,and the precision of migration imaging is low.(3)Shot points are far away from the tunnel face,the energy loss at the shot points is more serious.(4)The received signals at the tunnel wall have the surface wave with strong energy when the shot points are placed on the tunnel wall.(5)The geometry is not linear,so the directional filtering method cannot be used to extract the reflection *** overcome the drawbacks of the current prediction method,a new 3-D symmetrical tunnel seismic prediction method is *** geophones are installed on the tunnel wall,two on the left side,two on the right side,and two on the top ***-four shot points are placed on the tunnel face and near both sides of the tunnel wall,twelve shot points on the left side and twelve shot points on the right *** shot points will move along with the forward excavation of the *** wavefield analysis,illumination statistics,and 3-D reverse time migration imaging are used to evaluate the proposed *** result of modeled data indicates that the proposed 3-D geometry has some advantages:(1)the geometry is simple and the geophone installation time is short;(2)it has high illumination energy,wide illumination range,and can improve the prediction distance and imaging accuracy;(3)the proposed 3-D method can better estimate the velocity of surrounding rock and is more conducive to extracting the reflection wave with high resolut

Combination immunotherapy has shown promising potential for enhancing the objective response rate compared to immune checkpoint blockade(ICB)***,combination therapy with multi-drugs is limited by the different properties of the agents and inconsistent synergistic targeted ***,based on a universal triterpene template and the anticancer active agent ursolic acid(UA),a cytomembrane-coated biomimetic delivery nanoplatform(UR@M)prepared by the selfassembly of a PD-L1 targeted CRISPR/Cas9 system and UA was designed for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)***@M showed enhanced tumor accumulation in vivo with homologous tumor targeting,and CRISPR in the nanosystem exhibited potent gene-editing efficiency of 76.53% in vitro and 62.42% in vivo with no off-target *** activated the natural immune system through the TLR-2-MyD88-TRAF6 pathway,which synergistically enhanced the proliferation of natural killer cells and dendritic cells and realized excellent immune cytotoxic T cell infiltration by combining with the ICB of *** strategy of work along both lines based on innate immune and adaptive immunity displayed a significant effect in tumor ***,the UA-templated strategy“killed three birds with one stone”by establishing a self-assembly nanosystem,inducing tumor cell death,and promoting synergistic immunostimulation for HCC treatment.

Insight into the spoilage heterogeneity of meat-borne bacteria isolates with high-producing collagenase

Chilled chicken is inevitably contaminated by microorganisms during slaughtering and processing,resulting in *** parts of chilled chicken,especially wings,feet,and other skin-on products,are abundant in collagen,which may be the primary target for degradation by spoilage *** this work,a total of 17 isolates of spoilage bacteria that could secrete both collagenase and lipase were determined by raw-chicken juice agar(RJA)method,and the results showed that 7 strains of Serratia,Aeromonas,and Pseudomonas could significantly decompose the collagen *** gelatin zymography showed that Serratia liquefaciens(F5)and(G7)had apparent degradation bands around 50 kDa,and Aeromonas veronii(G8)and Aeromonas salmonicida(H8)had a band around.65 and 95 kDa,*** lipase and collagenase activities were detected isolate-by-isolate,with F5 showing the highest collagenase *** spoilage ability on meat in situ,F5 performed strongest in spoilage ability,indicated by the total viable counts,total volatile basic nitrogen content,sensory scores,lipase,and collagenase *** study provides a theoretical basis for spoilage heterogeneity of strains with high-producing collagenase in meat.

A deoxidation thermodynamic model for 304 stainless steel considering multiple-components coupled reactions

A thermodynamic model for predicting the equilibrium oxygens of 304 stainless steel was developed based on the theory of slag-steel equilibrium,the law of mass conservation,and the ion and molecule coexistence *** the developed model,the Fe-Cr-Mn-Si-Al-S-O-melts reaction system and CaO-MgO-CaF_(2)-FeO-MnO-Al_(2)O_(3)-SiO_(2)-Cr2O_(3)slags were *** oxygen contents calculated by the model are in good agreement with experimental results and reference *** equilibrium oxygen contents in 304 stainless steel mainly decrease with increasing binary basicity(w(CaO)/w(SiO_(2)),where w(i)is the mass percentage of component i)and decreasing *** binary basicity at 2.0 while maintaining temperatures lower than 1823 K will keep the oxygen contents in the 304 stainless steel lower than 15×10^(-6).The equilibrium oxygen contents may also be decreased with increasing content of MgO in slags,which is more significant at lower binary ***,a small amount of FeO,MnO,and Al_(2)O_(3)(about 0-2.5 wt.%)in slags has little effect on equilibrium oxygen ***,it is found that the[C]-[O]reaction may occur during refining process but will not significantly affect the equilibrium oxygen contents.
