Study on the Triggering Effect of the October, 2005 Pakistan M_W7.6 Earthquake on Its Aftershocks

The liver X receptor α(LXRα, NR1H3) and LXRβ(NR1H2) are members of the nuclear hormonereceptor *** play a critical role in the transcriptional control of lipidmetabolism. MicroRNAs(miRs) are regarded as important negative regulators of gene *** has been reported that miR-1/miR-206 suppress LXRα-induced lipogenesis inhepatocytes. However, the regulation of LXRβ by microRNAs is not fully understood. In thisstudy, we found that miR-18 a repressed LXRβ expression in both human neuroblastomacells and hepatocytes at both mRNA and protein levels. In addition, bioinformatics analysiswith TargetScan and PicTar predicted a putative target-site for miR-18 a located within the3’-untranslated region(3’-UTR) of LXRβ mRNA. To verify our prediction, HEK293 cellswere cotransfected with reporters(pMIR-LXRβ) and miR-18 a mimics. We found that miR-18 a inhibited the luciferase activity of LXRβ 3’-UTR reporter,suggesting that miR-18 adirectly target the 3’-UTR of LXR β mRNA. Taken together, we for the first time demonstrated that miR-18 a repressed LXRβ expression by targeting the 3’-UTR of LXRβ mRNA.

The influences upon aftershocks of Coulomb failure stress change (CFSC) generated by the main-shock of the October 8, 2005, Pakistan earthquake are calculated and analyzed. The following factors are included in the calculation: (1) the difference between the pore fluid pressure and the medium elastic constant in the fault plane area and those of its surrounding medium; (2) the tectonic stress direction of the seismic source area; (3) the aftershock failure mechanism of aftershocks is calculated by stacking the tectonic stress with the stress change generated by the main-shock. Our study, which includes many factors, fits fairly well with the aftershock distribution. It indicates that most of the aftershocks were triggered by the Pakistan main-shock that occurred on October 8, 2005.

Liver cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. Of all types of livercancer, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is known to be the most frequent primaryliver malignancy and has seriously compromised the health status of the generalpopulation. Locoregional thermal ablation techniques such as radiofrequency andmicrowave ablation, have attracted attention in clinical practice as an alternativestrategy for HCC treatment. However, their aggressive thermal effect may causeundesirable complications such as hepatic decompensation, hemorrhage, bile ductinjury, extrahepatic organ injuries, and skin burn. In recent years, photodynamictherapy (PDT), a gentle locoregional treatment, has attracted attention in ablationtherapy for patients with superficial or luminal tumors as an alternative treatmentstrategy. However, some inherent defects and extrinsic factors of PDT havelimited its use in clinical practice for deep-seated HCC. In this contribution, theaim is to summarize the current status and challenges of PDT in HCC treatmentand provide potential strategies to overcome these deficiencies in further clinicaltranslational practice.

分析了磁光薄膜中同时激发的多个频率的静磁波对导波光的衍射作用过程,以三频为例推导了三级近似的耦合模方程,对于两频磁光作用的理论计算与实验基本一致.对于三频磁光作用,数值分析结果表明:对于主衍射效率(Principle Diffraction Efficiency,PDE),小信号时只需考虑一级磁光作用.在超出小信号范围且PDE达到峰值之前,第三级磁光作用对PDE影响很小,只需考虑前两级磁光作用.小信号时,得到了PDE的近似解析表达式,在一定的频率间隔范围内与耦合方程的一级近似解较为符合.

Magneto-optic(MO)coupling of guided optical waves with microwave magnetostatic waves(MSWs)simultaneously excited by multiple radio frequency(RF)signals can lead to multifrequency diffraction effects and then parallel processing of RF signals can be realized by using of the characteristics that diffraction efficiencies(DEs)are approximately in direct proportion to RF signals intensities and diffraction angles are related to frequencies of the corresponding RF signals within linear MO interaction *** this paper,studied is the multifrequency MO Bragg diffraction in first-order MO interaction approximation,and obtained was the approximate analytical expression for principle diffraction efficiency(PDE).Also,put forward was a parallel imaging method of relative intensity of RF signals based on single-frequency *** calculation and analysis,it is shown that the relative error is not more than 0.3dB for the case of three RF signals within the frequency space of 60MHz.
