Background:During the COVID-19 vaccination,the access to vaccines has been unequal among countries and indi‑viduals,for example low-income countries displayed signifcant low levels of ***,most refugees are living in developing low-income countries which struggling to access the essential health-care services including ***,the objective of this study was to assess the experiences and perceptions of COVID-19 infection and vaccination among Palestine refugees in Jerash camp compared to resident Jordanian ***:A face-to-face interview-based comparative cross-sectional study was carried out among Palestine refu‑gees in Jerash camp located in northern Jordan and Jordanian citizens from diferent cities in Jordan from October,2021 to March,2022.A Chi-square test was used to determine the diferences in the experiences and perceptions of COVID-19 infection and vaccination between Palestinian refugees and resident Jordanian *** regres‑sion analysis was performed to predict factors associated with the beliefs,barriers and hesitancy towards COVID-19 ***:The total number of participants was 992,with 501(50.5%)Palestinian refugees and 491(49.5%)Jordanian *** participants(64.1%)who have never been tested for COVID-19 were from the refugees(P<0.001),whereas about 80.3%of the participants tested for COVID-19 at private healthcare institutions were citizens(P<0.001).While 70.0%of the participants who tested positive for COVID-19(n=303)were from the refugees(P<0.001).Com‑pared to the citizens,the refugees had signifcantly lower levels of beliefs about the safety(P=0.008)and efciency(P<0.001)of COVID-19 *** also had lower rates of vaccine hesitancy(P=0.002)and vaccine uptake(P<0.001),and a higher rate of facing difculties during registration for COVID-19 vaccination(P<0.001).Furthermore,refugees have more negative attitudes toward the importance and implementation of COVID-19 precautionary activi

Background: Thunbergia erecta (Acanthaceae) is the most abundant medicinal plant in different parts of Bangladesh where it is known as “nilghonta”. It has been used as traditional medicine for insomnia, depression and anxiety management. However, no scientific evidence of T. erecta belonging to neuropharmacological activity has been reported. The aim of present study was to investigate in vivo sedative and anxiolytic activities of methanol extract from the leaves of T. erecta in Swiss Albino mice. Methods: Sedative activity of METE was investigated using open field, hole cross and thiopental sodium-induced sleeping time test model whereas anxiolytic activity was screened by elevated-plus maze, light-dark box, hole-board and marble-burying test method in mice at 200 and 400 mg/kg doses. The acute toxicity study and phytochemical analysis of METE also carried out. Diazepam used as the positive control for the following behavioral pharmacology test. Results: METE exhibited significant (p Conclusion: The experimental result indicates T. erecta contains phytoconstituents that possess sedative and anxiolytic activity which traditionally used in insomnia, depression and anxiety management.

Vitamin D and Its Association with Glycemic Status in Bangladeshi Adults with Newly Detected Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Background: Very limited data are available regarding the association of vitamin D with glycemic status among adults with newly detected type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Bangladesh. Objectives: To determine vitamin D status and its association with glycemic status in Bangladeshi adults with newly detected T2DM. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out in 102 newly detected T2DM diagnosed on the basis of the American Diabetes Association 2017 criteria (age: 42.95 ± 10.68 yrs.;m/f: 44/58) and equal number of age and sex matched controls (age: 40.43 ± 11.04 years) recruited consecutively from the Department of Endocrinology, BSMMU to measure serum vitamin D by high performance liquid chromatography method. Results: Both vitamin D deficiency (p p p 1c (r = -0.249, p = 0.011) in patients with T2DM. HbA1c was linearly associated with vitamin D (β = -0.26, p = 0.009) and severe vitamin D deficiency by binary (OR = 1.37, p = 0.003) and multinomial logistic regression (HbA1c ≥ 10%: OR = 4.25, p = 0.04) in people with T2DM after adjustment for age and BMI. The Association of Visceral Adiposity Index with Insulin Resistance in Adults with Prediabetes

Visceral adiposity mediates insulin resistance, but their association among adults with prediabetes is scarce in the literature. This study is aimed to determine the association of visceral adiposity index (VAI) with insulin resistance in adults with prediabetes. This cross-sectional study was done among 117 adults with newly detected prediabetes [m/f;23/94;mean ± SD: Age 36.30 ± 9.99 years, BMI 28.89 ± 4.35 kg/m2] based on American Diabetes Association 2018 criteria and 141 matched healthy controls [m/f: 28/113;mean ± SD: 35.30 ± 6.88 years, BMI 25.03 ± 4.58]. Waist circumference, body mass index, fasting triglyceride, HDL cholesterol, fasting blood glucose and insulin were measured in each group to calculate VAI and homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). Antidepressant-Like Activity of Methanolic Extract of the Seeds of Trachysperum ammiin Swiss Albino Mice

Trachysperum ammi has been traditionally used for the treatment of neurological disorders such as depression and anxiety. To date, T. ammi has reported for its chemical constituents in different diseases condition. The traditional evidence convinced us to perform the antidepressant-like activity of methanolic extract of Trachysperum ammi (META). The antidepressant activity of META assessed by using forced swimming test (FST), tail suspension test (TST), and locomotor activity test. The seed parts of META at doses level of 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight administered orally to examine the CNS stimulants activity test in mice behavioral models. Here, we reported that META significantly reduced immobility time in the FST after repeated administration of 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg to mice for 14 days. The intensity of immobility significantly reduced at all of the doses (p < 0.05) whereas, we were found the strongest effect observed at 200 mg/kg. The antidepressant-like effect of META caused the reduction (p < 0.05) in the immobility in TST of mice when orally administered with 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg for 14 days, respectively. Additionally, we were executed locomotor activity test to check the motor stimulating activity. META has employed at a dosage of 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg for 14 days, the results have found that 50 mg/kg produced the locomotion effects as similar to the control group. Interestingly, the locomotion, rearing, and defecation significantly (p < 0.05) increased at the dosage of 100 and 200 mg/kg of META. Our present findings suggest that the seed parts of Trachysperum ammi may possess antidepressant-like activity which may use as a supportive treatment to management of neurological disorders.

Effect of Atrial Fibrillation on Acute Ischemic Stroke Severity

Objectives: To assess the impact of atrial fibrillation on stroke severity and short-term (1 month) mortality. Materials and Methods: Totally 200 patients admitted to Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital were recruited and diagnosed clinically to have acute ischemic stroke within 3 days. Patients with hemorrhagic infarctions were excluded. History taking about previous heart disease was taken, full general and neurological examinations were done. Full metabolic profile, full cardiac investigations, carotid duplex, MRI brain stroke protocol with initial clinical evaluation and after 1 month re-evaluation using (NIHSS ) scale. Results: All patients underwent transthoracic echocardiography which revealed absence of “A” wave corresponding to atrial fibrillation in 33 patients (16.5%). Those Patients with atrial fibrillation had a median NIHSS score of 11.00 with IQR of 6.00 - 18.50 at admission and 6.00 with IQR of 2.00 - 14.50 after one month. Patients with atrial fibrillation showed significantly higher NIHSS at admission than patients in sinus rhythm, P < 0.05. Magnetic resonance imaging findings showed that MRA showed significant intracranial vessel stenosis in 117 (79.1%) patients. 51 (34.4%) patients had lacunar infarction, 65 (43.9%) patients had partial anterior circulation infarction, 25 (16.2%) patients had posterior circulation infarction and 7 (4.7%) patients had total anterior circulation infarction. 111 (75%) patients showed leucoaraiosis. Conclusion: Atrial fibrillation was found not to have significantly statistical effect on stroke severity and short term mortality.

Objectives: To assess the impact of heart failure diseases on stroke severity and short term (1 month mortality). Materials and Methods: Totally, 200 patients admitted to Ain Shams university specialized hospital, were diagnosed clinically to have acute ischemic stroke within 3 days. History taking about previous heart disease was taken, and full general and neurological examinations were done. Full metabolic profile, cardiac examination and investigations were done. Carotid duplex, MRI stroke protocol and lastly clinical reevaluation using NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) after 1 month from stroke onset were done. Results: Patients with systolic dysfunction (EF ≤ 40%) had lacunar infarction in 18.75% of cases, partial anterior circulation infarction in 62.5% of cases, posterior circulation infarction in 6.25% of cases and total anterior circulation infarction in 12.5% of cases. Leucoaraiosis was present in 87% of cases and significant intracranial vessel stenosis was showed in 87.5% who had done MRI. Their median NIHSS score at admission was 10.5 with IQR of 5 - 21 and at follow-up it was 5 with IQR of 2.5 - 10.5. At follow-up 22.7% (5 patients) were dead. Conclusion: Systolic dysfunction (EF < 40) i.e. heart failure has no significant effect on stroke severity and 1 month follow up prognosis.
