Brain-Computer Interface （BCI） techniques have advanced to a level where it is now eliminating the need lor hand-based activation. This paper presents a novel attempt to remotely control an animal＇s behavior by human BCI using a hybrid of Event Related Desynchronization （ERD） and Steady-State Visually Evoked Potential （SSVEP） BCI protocols. The turtle was chosen as the target animal, and we developed a head-mounted display, wireless communication, and a specially designed stimulation device for the turtle. These devices could evoke the turtle＇s instinctive escape behavior to guide its moving path, and turtles were remotely controlled in both indoor and outdoor environments. The system architecture and design were presented. To demon- strate the feasibility of the system, experimental tests were performed under various conditions. Our system could act as a framework for future human-animal interaction systems.

Surgical treatment and ESI （epidural steroid injection） are widely used forms of treatment for cervical radiculopathy but they are controversial and burdensome for patients. To relief pain fast without side effects, we devised a new minimally invasive treatment method that widens the facet joints to decompress nerve roots and release the muscle spasm in cervical radiculopathy with acupuncture needles with blunt tip and mini-scalpel, and named it modified acupuncture procedure. MAP （Modified acupuncture procedure） was administered for 37 patients （mean age = 53.1 years, follow-up = 14.2 months） with cervical radiculopathy who did not recover from 4 weeks of nonsurgical treatment. We analyzed clinical outcomes of patients before and after the procedure through VAS （Visual Analogue Scale） and NDI （Neck Disability Index）. On average, patients received 1.4 MAP （modified acupuncture procedures）. The VAS score difference on the day after procedure and at 1 year follow-up was 36.8 ± 26.5 （from 60.1 ± 25.3 at the baseline to 25.3 ± 17.8 at the reading）（P 〈 0.01） and 31.0 ± 30.4 （29.0 ± 21.8 at the reading） respectively. The NDI value dropped by 19.9 ± 18.3 （from 37.2 ± 19.7 at the baseline to 17.2 ± 15.0 at the reading）（P〈 0.01） on 1 year follow up. MAP was found to have clinical efficacy for cervical radiculopathy.

Impact of agricultural activities-motor vehicles and e-waste on sediment characteristics of the serin River, Malaysia

Sediment is a sink for organic materials, nutrients and heavy metals and sediment condition affects the overlying water Though serin River is a source of drinking water, agricultural and waste disposal activities in the watershed may impact the sediment of the river. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the organic matter, nutrients and heavy metals in the sediment of the serin River. Five stations were selected for sediment sample collection. Results of the study show that organic matter （OM） ranged from 0.7% to 5.9%, TP was 100 -366 （mg/kg）, TAN was 16-141 （mg/kg）, TON was 550-3019（mg/kg）, and TKN was 566-3160 （mg/kg）. Sediment oxygen demand （SOD20） ranged from 5.6 to 14.2 （g O2/m^2/d）. Among the five stations OM, TKN, and SOD of the sediment were second highest at the two stations downstream of animal （fish, chicken and pig） farming. TP and TAN were the second highest at the station downstream of fish farming and third highest at the station downstream of pig farming. Zn, Cu and Cd ranged from 132-357 （mg/kg）, 26.7-96.7 （mg/kg） and 4.0-19.3（mg/kg）. According to USEPA guideline, sediments at four stations were heavily polluted with Zn, Cu and Cd whereas the station that was farthest upstream, near a village, was slightly polluted with Zn and Cu. This study indicates that animal farming has an impact on the organic matter content, nutrients （N and P）, oxygen demand and heavy metals of the sediment. Motor vehicles and discarded e-waste also contributed to the heavy metals in the sediment. Farm effluents and storm water should be treated and e-waste recycled to protect the water quality of the river for its designated use.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.
