Resveratrol prevents hypoxia-induced retinal ganglion cell death related with ErbB2

AIM: To confirm the changes in proteins related with hypoxia-induced retinal cell death and to assess the effects of resveratrol(Res).METHODS: The therapeutic effect of Res was verified using an ischemic/reperfusion(I/R) model in vivo and a hypoxia modelin retinal ganglion cells(RGCs) in *** of RGCs were confirmed by TUNEL *** expression was confirmed by Western blotting and *** addition, flow cytometric analysis was used to confirm the response in the cell unit to obtain more accurate ***: ErbB2 expression and apoptosis in the ganglion cell layer(GCL) increased after I/R *** of Res rescued I/R-induced ganglion cell death, downregulated apoptosis and ErbB2 protein expression in the *** subsequent in vitro models, Res affects apoptosis by regulating the phosphorylation and expression of mouse double minute 2 homolog(MDM2), along with those of *** results suggest that Res reverses GCL-specific apoptosis via downregulation of ErbB2 in ischemic ***: In light of Res favorable properties, it should be evaluated in the treatment of RGC death and related retinal disease characterized by ErbB2 and MDM2 ***, Res is appropriate therapeutic agent for treating ischemic injury-related eye diseases by targeting the expression of ErbB2 and MDM2.

Nanostructured hafnium-doped strontium oxide film for homeotropic/homogeneous convertible liquid crystal alignment depending on the curing temperature

A hafnium strontium oxide(HfSrO)liquid crystal(LC)alignment film was efficiently created through brush coating,and its ability to change the LC alignment direction was confirmed.A brush was applied to HfSrO sol coated on an indium-tin oxide substrate,after which the coating was solidified at var-ious curing *** was confirmed that a directional micro/nanostructure was formed above 280°C due to the shear stresses caused by the movement of the brush *** chemical changes were analyzed by using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and contact angle *** the curing temperature increased,the prevalence of oxygen bonds increased and the contact angle decreased,thereby increasing the surface *** anisotropic boundary of the micro-grooves and the van der Waals forces due to an increase in surface energy changed the alignment direction of LC mole-cules from vertical to horizontal,as verified through polarized optical microscopy and pretilt angle ***,the efficiency of the brush-coating method,which dramatically simplifies the LC alignment film process,was *** homeotropic/homogeneous LC alignment property of the HfSrO film produced through brush coating depending on the curing temperature provides an innovative approach for LC alignment.

SnO_(2)/graphene nanocomposites have been fabricated by a simple chemical *** the fabrication process,the control of surface charge causes echinoid-like SnO_(2)nanoparticles to be formed and uniformly decorated on the *** electrostatic attraction between a graphene nanosheet(GNS)and the echinoid-like SnO_(2)particles under controlled pH creates a unique nanostructure in which extremely small SnO_(2)particles are uniformly dispersed on the *** SnO_(2)/graphene nanocomposite has been shown to perform as a high capacity anode with good cycling behavior in lithium rechargeable *** anode retained a reversible capacity of 634 mA·h·g^(–1)with a coulombic efficiency of 98%after 50 *** high reversibility can be attributed to the mechanical buffering by the GNS against the large volume change of SnO_(2)during delithiation/lithiation ***,the power capability is significantly enhanced due to the nanostructure,which enables facile electron transport through the GNS and fast delithiation/lithiation reactions within the echinoid-like nano-SnO_(2).The route suggested here for the fabrication of SnO_(2)/graphene hybrid materials is a simple economical route for the preparation of other graphene-based hybrid materials which can be employed in many different fields.

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the optimal timing and underlying mechanism of electroacupuncture(EA)at Baihui(GV 20)and Dazhui(GV 14)for improved long-term functional recovery after focal cerebral ischemia in a photothrombotic stroke mouse ***:Totally 50 adult male C57 BL/6 J mice were assigned into 5 groups:(a)the control group,sham-operated mice(n=10);(b)the vehicle group,focal cerebral ischemia induction without EA(n=10);(c)the acute EA group,mice received EA immediately post-ischemia,followed by once-daily treatments for 7 consecutive days(n=10);(d)the subacute EA group,mice received EA 4 days post-ischemia,followed by once-daily treatments for 7 consecutive days(n=10);(e)the delayed EA *** stimulation(2 Hz,2 V for 20 min)was applied to acupuncture points(acupoints),Baihui(GV 20)and Dazhui(GV 14),once a day for 7 consecutive days beginning immediately(acute treatment),4 d(subacute treatment)and 10 d(delayed treatment)after focal cerebral ischemia in C57 BL/6 J *** assessments were conducted 21 and 28 d post-ischemia and histopathological analyses were performed 28 days ***:The subacute EA treatment at Baihui(GV20)and Dazhui(GV 14)significantly improved functional recovery compared to the vehicle group 28 d after ischemic brain injury,although brain atrophy was not *** number of Neu N+and Neu N+/Brd U+cells as well as GFAP intensity in the ipsilateral cortex were significantly increased in the subacute group compared to the vehicle group 28 d *** concluded that EA stimulation 4 d post-ischemia(subacute treatment)enhanced neurogenesis and astrogliosis,likely contributing to long-term functional recovery following focal cerebral ***:Our findings suggest that the timing of the EA therapy at Baihui(GV 20)and Dazhui(GV 14)determines the therapeutic effects in mice with focal cerebral ischemia induced by photothrombotic occlusion.

Effectiveness of Endovascular Coil Embolization of Ruptured Hepatic Artery Pseudoaneurysm

Purpose: To assess the efficacy of endovascular management for ruptured hepatic artery pseudoaneurysm (HAP). Methods: Six cases of HAP in five patients (four men and one women;mean age, 50;range, 28 - 62) were treated with transcatheter arterial coil embolization using microcoil (Boston Scientific, Watertown, MA, USA) and Tornado Coil (Cook, Bloomington, IN, USA) with or without stent graft between January 2007 and September 2008. They were analyzed with regard to the clinical presentation, radiological findings with procedure, and clinical and radiologic outcomes. Results: All patients presented with epigastric pain or gastrointestinal bleeding. The pseudoaneurysms were ranged from 0.6 to 4.4 cm in size and located in the common hepatic artery (n = 1), junction between proper and right hepatic artery (n = 1), proper hepatic artery (n = 2), the left hepatic artery (n = 1), right hepatic artery (n = 1). Embolization was performed with microcoils in all pseudoaneurysmal sac with or without both afferent and efferent segment. A self-expandable stent (n = 1) was also used. Overall technical success was 100% (6 of 6) and complete occlusions of HAPs were achieved in 5 out of 6 cases, 83.3% of clinical success rate. Re-bleeding occurred in one case of stent graft at proper hepatic artery following coil packing for pseudoaneurysmal sac. Clinical success rate of embolization for both afferent and efferent segment was 100% (3 of 3). Procedure-related minor complications happened in 2 of 5 patients, and they were treated conservatively. Conclusion: Transcatheter coil embolization for ruptured HAP is sufficiently effective and additional embolization in both afferent segment and efferent segment can improve clinical success rate.

Acute Epiploic Appendagitis of the Vermiform Appendix: Typical Computed Tomographic Image with Pathologic Correlation

Epiploic appendages can become ischemic and infarcted, which can present acute abdominal pain that mimics other diseases, such as diverticulitis or appendicitis. Particularly, inflammation of an epiploic appendage attached to the vermiform appendix is a very rare cause of acute abdominal pain, and it is difficult to diagnose this condition preoperatively. We present a case of epiploic appendagitis of the vermiform appendix that was identified with a typical radiologic image and was pathologically confirmed. In addition, we review the literature of similar cases and analyze the clinical and radiologic features of EA of the vermiform appendix.

To attain a circular carbon economy and resolve CO_(2) electroreduction technology obstacles,single‐atom catalysts(SACs)have emerged as a logical option for electrocatalysis because of their extraordinary catalytic *** SACs,metal–organic frameworks(MOFs)have been recognized as promising support materials because of their exceptional ability to prevent metal *** study shows that atomically dispersed Ni single atoms on a precisely engineered MOF nanosheet display a high Faradaic efficiency of approximately 100% for CO formation in H‐cell and three‐compartment microfluidic flow‐cell reactors and an excellent turnover frequency of 23,699 h^(−1),validating their intrinsic catalytic *** results suggest that crystallographic variations affect the abundant vacancy sites on the MOF nanosheets,which are linked to the evaporation of Zn‐containing organic linkers during ***,using X‐ray absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations,a comprehensive investigation of the unsaturated atomic coordination environments and the underlying mechanism involving CO^(*) preadsorbed sites as initial states was possible and provided valuable insights.

Heteroepitaxial growth of ZnO nanosheet bands on ZnCo204 submicron rods toward high-performance Li ion battery electrodes

We report the direct synthesis of ZnC0204 and ZnO/ZnC0204 submicron rod arrays grown on Ni foil current collectors via an ammonia-evaporation-induced method by controlling the ratio of Zn to Co. These three-dimensional （3D） hierar- chical self-supported nanostructures are composed of one-dimensional （1D） ZnCo204 rods and two-dimensional （2D） ZnO nanosheet bands perpendicular to the axis of the each ZnCo204 rod. We carefully deal with the heteroepitaxial growth mechanisms of hexagonal ZnO nanosheets from a crystallographic point of view. Furthermore, we demonstrate the ability of these high-surface-area ZnO/ZnCo204 heterostructured rods to enable improved electrolyte permeability and Li ion transfer, thereby enhancing their Li storage capability （-900 mA.h.g-1 at a rate of 45 mA.h.g-1） for Li ion battery electrodes.

Interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase 4(IRAK4)is a pivotal enzyme in the Toll-like receptor(TLR)/MYD88 dependent signaling pathway,which is highly activated in rheumatoid arthritis tissues and activated B cell-like diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(ABC-DLBCL).Inflammatory responses followed by IRAK4 activation promote B-cell proliferation and aggressiveness of ***,proviral integration site for Moloney murine leukemia virus 1(PIM1)functions as an anti-apoptotic kinase in propagation of ABC-DLBCL with ibrutinib *** developed a dual IRAK4/PIM1 inhibitor KIC-0101 that potently suppresses the NF-κB pathway and proinflammatory cytokine induction in vitro and in *** rheumatoid arthritis mouse models,treatment with KIC-0101 significantly ameliorated cartilage damage and ***-0101 inhibited the nuclear translocation of NF-κB and activation of JAK/STAT pathway in *** addition,KIC-0101 exhibited an anti-tumor effect on ibrutinib-resistant cells by synergistic dual suppression of TLR/MYD88-mediated NF-κB pathway and PIM1 *** results suggest that KIC-0101 is a promising drug candidate for autoimmune diseases and ibrutinib-resistant B-cell lymphomas.
