We have developed a hybrid hydrogel that is formed from a crosslinkable polymeric micelle and a polyamine. Under optimal conditions, the hydrogel rapidly formed in one second after a crosslinkable polymeric micelle solution was mixed with a polyamine solution. We could change the hydrogel’s gelation properties, such as the storage modulus and gelation time by tuning the molecular weights of block copolymers and by tuning the pH of the dissolving-solvent of the hydrogel’s constituent components. Furthermore, we have clarified here that the structural difference among the micelles acting as crosslinkers can affect the gelation properties of the hydrogel. According to our findings, the hydrogel that was formed from the polymeric micelles possessing a highly packed (i.e., well-entangled or crosslinked) inner core exhibited a higher storage modulus than the hydrogel that was formed from the polymeric micelles possessing a lowly packed structure. Our results demonstrate that a microscopic structural difference among crosslinkers can induce a macroscopic change in the properties of the resulting hydrogels. For medical applications, the hydrogel proposed in the present paper can encapsulate the hydrophobic compounds in crosslinkers (polymeric micelles) so that the hydrogel can be available as the biomaterial for their sustained release.

In this commentary, discovery story of a ＂lactate-polymerizing enzyme＂（LPE） and LPE-based achievements for creating a new variety of polyesters with incorporated unnatural monomers are presented. Besides the importance of microbial platform itself is discussed referring to the ＂ballooning＂-Escherichia coli.

Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have had great success with regard to the object classification problem. For character classification, we found that training and testing using accurately segmented character regions with CNNs resulted in higher accuracy than when roughly segmented regions were used. Therefore, we expect to extract complete character regions from seene images. Text in natural scene images has an obvious contrast with its attachments. Many methods attempt to extract characters through different segmentation techniques. However, for blurred, occluded, and complex background cases, those methods may result in adjoined or over segmented characters. In this paper, we propose a scene word recognition model that integrates words from small pieces to entire after-cluster-based segmentation. The segmented connected components are classified as four types: background, in dividual character proposals, adjoined characters, and stroke proposals. Individual character proposals are directly inputted to a CNN that is trained using accurately segmented character images. The sliding window strategy is applied to adjoined character regions. Stroke proposals are considered as fragments of entire characters whose locations are estimated by a stroke spatial distribution system. Then、the estimated characters from adjoined characters and stroke proposals are classified by a CNN that is trained on roughly segmented character images. Finally, a lexicondriven integration method is performed to obtain the final word recognition results. Compared to other word recognition methods, our method achieves a comparable performance on Street View Text and the ICDAR 2003 and ICDAR 2013 benchmark databases. Moreover, our method can deal with recognizing text images of occlusion and improperly segmented text images.

Crystallization of natural rubber （NR） was investigated in different morphology for NR/styrene bntadiene rubber （SBR） blend and NR/polystyrene-（b）-polyisoprene （SI）/polystyrene （PS） blend. A purified NR （PC-TE） was prepared from pale crape via transesterification. In the blends, PC-TE formed various morphologies; that is, matrix phase, island phase and continuous phase with a nano-scale, respectively, in dependence upon the ratio of the rubbers. The crystallization rate of the blends was also significantly associated with the morphology of the rubbers.

In this paper, we intensively study the behavior of three part-based methods for handwritten digit recognition. The principle of the proposed methods is to represent a handwritten digit image as a set of parts and recognize the image by aggregating the recognition results of individual parts. Since part-based methods do not rely on the global structure of a character, they are expected to be more robust against various delormations which may damage the global structure. The proposed three methods are based on the same principle but different in their details, for example, the way of aggregating the individual results. Thus, those methods have different performances. Experimental results show that even the simplest part-based method can achieve recognition rate as high as 98.42% while the improved one achieved 99.15%, which is comparable or even higher than some state-of-the-art method. This result is important because it reveals that characters can be recognized without their global structure. The results also show that the part-based method has robustness against deformations which usually appear in handwriting.

For stroke-order free online multi-stroke charac- ter recognition, stroke-to-stroke correspondence search be- tween an input pattern and a reference pattern plays an im- portant role to deal with the stroke-order variation. Although various methods of stroke correspondence have been pro- posed, no comparative study for clarifying the relative su- periority of those methods has been done before. In this pa- per, we firstly review the approaches for solving the stroke- order variation problem. Then, five representative methods of stroke correspondence proposed by different groups, includ- ing cube search （CS）, bipartite weighted matching （BWM）, individual correspondence decision （ICD）, stable marriage （SM）, and deviation-expansion model （DE）, are experimen- tally compared, mainly in regard of recognition accuracy and efficiency. The experimental results on an online Kanji char- acter dataset, showed that 99.17%, 99.17%, 96.37%, 98.54%, and 96.59% were attained by CS, BWM, ICD, SM, and DE, respectively as their recognition rates. Extensive discussions are made on their relative superiorities and practicalities.

Recently, development of high technology has been required for the formation of thin uniform film in manufacturing processes of semiconductor as the semiconductor become more sophisticated. Spin coating is usually used for spreading photoresist on a wafer surface. However, since rotating speed of the disk is very high in spin coating, the dropped resist scatters outward and reattaches to the film surface. So, the scattered resist is removed by the exhaust flow generated at the gap between the wafer edge and the catch cup. It is seriously concerned that the stripes called Ekman spiral vortices appears on the disk in the case of high rotating speed and the film thickness increases near the wafer edge in the case of low rotating speed, because it prevent the formation of uniform film. The purpose of this study is to make clear the generation mechanism of Ekman spiral vortices and the influence of exhaust flow on it Moreover the influence of the catch cup geometry on the wafer surface boundary layer flow is investigated.

OBJECTIVE: To establish a method of transient sciatic nerve blockade and to examine the involvement of the ascending peripheral nerve pathway in the therapeutic effect of electroacupuncture at Zusanli(ST 36) in rats with spinal cord injury(SCI).METHODS: We examined the transient effect of daily lidocaine administration into the posteromedial part of the greater trochanter on sciatic nerve function using electrophysiological examination and histopathology of the sciatic nerve. Rats were divided into three groups: an SCI group(SCI without treatment), an SCI with electroacupuncture treatment(SCI-EA) group, and an SCI with nerve block and electroacupuncture(SCI-NB-EA) group(nerve block was achieved by lidocaine administration to transiently block the ascending peripheral nerve pathway). Behavioral tests and electrophysiological examinations were performed to evaluate recovery of neurological ***: Sciatic nerve conduction was normal immediately before daily lidocaine *** analysis also indicated normal sciatic nerve, confirming that lidocaine nerve blockade was suitable and reversible for transiently eliminating nerve transmission. Neurological function in the SCI-EA group was superior to that in the SCI group, while no differences were found between the SCI and SCI-NB-EA ***: Electroacupuncture treatment can promote recovery of neurological function. Facilitation of nerve conduction may play an important role in this recovery.

AIM:To investigate differences in clinical features between diffuse-and focal-type autoimmune pancreatitis(AIP).METHODS:Based on radiological findings by computed tomography and/or magnetic resonance imaging,we divided 67 AIP patients into diffuse type(D type) and focal type(F type).We further divided F type into head type(H type) and body and/or tail type(B/T type) according to the location of ***,we classified the 67 AIP patients into three groups:D type,H type and B/T *** compared the three types of AIP in terms of clinical,laboratory,radiological,functional and histological findings and clinical ***:There were 34 patients with D-type,19 with H-type and 14 with B/T-type *** obstructive jaundice was frequently detected in D-typepatients(88%) and H-type patients(68%),no B/T-type patients showed jaundice as an initial symptom(P < 0.001).There were no differences in frequency of abdominal pain,but acute pancreatitis was associated more frequently in B/T-type patients(36%) than in D-type patients(3%)(P = 0.017).Serum immunoglobulin G(IgG)4 levels were significantly higher in D-type patients(median 309 mg/dL) than in B/T-type patients(133.5 mg/dL)(P = 0.042).Serum amylase levels in B/T-type patients(median:114 IU/L) were significantly greater than in H-type patients(72 IU/L)(P = 0.049).Lymphoplasmacytic sclerosing pancreatitis(LPSP) was histologically confirmed in 6 D-type,7 H-type and 4 B/T-type patients;idiopathic duct-centric pancreatitis was observed in no *** fibrosis and abundant infiltration of CD20-positive B lymphocytes with few IgG4-positive plasma cells were detected in 2 B/T-type *** therapy was effective in all 50 patients(31 D type,13 H type and 6 B/T type).Although AIP relapsed during tapering or after stopping steroids in 3 D-type and 3 H-type patients,no patients relapsed in B/T *** follow-up,radiological features of 6 B/T-type patients were not changed and 1 B/T-type patient impr
