Stability of computed tomography densitometry in patients with otosclerosis:a two-year follow-up

Objectives:To quantify the progression of otosclerosis in the unoperated ear between two stapedotomy procedures for patients with bilateral otosclerosis which can help to determine whether a HRCT scan should be re-performed before the second surgery for patients who already received HRCT imaging before the initial ***:35 patients who underwent bilateral stapedotomy were *** rounds of HRCT examination and audiometry were performed at the time of the first surgery and second surgery on the ear that was not operated on during the initial *** relationship between the changes in HRCT densitometry and audiometry over time was ***:The second round of HRCT did not add significant information about the changes to the otosclerosis lesions in either the imaging diagnosis or the HRCT density values except for small changes in the HRCT densitometry readings at the area anterior to the inner auditory(P=0.01).While the changes in HRCT manifestation are small,changes near the fissula ante fenestram(FAF)were still positively correlated with the air bone gap(ABG)of patients(p=0.031,r=0.388).Conclusions:The progression of lesions in otosclerosis is slow resulting in small and insignificant changes to the HRCT ***,a repeat HRCT evaluations prior to surgery is not necessary for patients who have had a previous HRCT evaluation within 2 years of the *** small changes in HRCT manifestation near the FAF were still correlated with negative effects on the ABG which could cause worsened hearing thresholds over this timeframe。

Biological systems are the sum of their dynamic three-dimensional(3D)***,it is critical to study biological structures in 3D and at high resolution to gain insights into their physiological *** microscopy of metal replicas of unroofed cells and isolated organelles has been a key technique to visualize intracellular structures at nanometer ***,many of these methods require specialized equipment and personnel to complete ***,we present novel accessible methods to analyze biological structures in unroofed cells and biochemically isolated organelles in 3D and at nanometer resolution,focusing on Arabidopsis clathrin-coated vesicles(CCVs).While CCVs are essential trafficking organelles,their detailed structural information is lacking due to their poor preservation when observed via classical electron microscopy protocols ***,we establish a method to visualize CCVs in unroofed cells using scanning transmission electron microscopy tomography,providing sufficient resolution to define the clathrin coat ***,the samples are prepared directly on electron microscopy grids,removing the requirement to use extremely corrosive acids,thereby enabling the use of this method in any electron microscopy ***,we demonstrate that this standardized sample preparation allows the direct comparison of isolated CCV samples with those visualized in ***,to facilitate the high-throughput and robust screening of metal replicated samples,we provide a deep learning analysis method to screen the“pseudo 3D”morphologies of CCVs imaged with 2D ***,our work establishes accessible ways to examine the 3D structure of biological samples and provide novel insights into the structure of plant CCVs.

Semiconductor materials provide a compelling platform for quantum technologies(QT).However,identifying promising material hosts among the plethora of candidates is a major ***,we have developed a framework for the automated discovery of semiconductor platforms for QT using material informatics and machine learning *** approaches were implemented to label data for training the supervised machine learning(ML)algorithms logistic regression,decision trees,random forests and gradient *** find that an empirical approach relying exclusively on findings from the literature yields a clear separation between predicted suitable and unsuitable *** contrast to expectations from the literature focusing on band gap and ionic character as important properties for QT compatibility,the ML methods highlight features related to symmetry and crystal structure,including bond length,orientation and radial distribution,as influential when predicting a material as suitable for QT.

Change in the temperature of band over its length, associated with the stock being non-uniformly heated in the furnace, influences the variations in the magnitudes of energy-force parameters. Using the FEM (Finite Element Model) programs for the computation of the values of the energy-force parameters can take into account the distribution of temperature over the band length. The mathematical model of the computer program Forge2008 was used to theoretically examine the energy-force parameters and plastic metal flow in the roughing stands of the continuous rolling mill. The results of experimental investigation of influence of the non-uniform temperature distribution were presented on the metallic charge length on the energy and force parameters and dimensions of the band during round bars rolling. Thermovision monitoring energy and force parameters monitoring were carried out in continuous rolling mill D350 in one of the Polish industrial plants. On the basis of obtained results, it could be stated that non-uniform distribution of temperatures along the charge length causes local increase of energy and force parameters values and also such distribution affects the local increase of the width of rolled band. The rolling process of charge with non-uniform distribution of temperature could lead to exceeding required dimensional tolerances of the final products.

Within disaster resilience research there is a trend of developing quantitative metrics for resilience analysis. Quantitative indicators can be useful for decision makers in the field of resilience building to prioritize preventive actions to target the least resilient. This study explores possibilities and constraints in quantifying disaster resilience at the local level. While national or regionallevel indicators mostly employ existing secondary source data, at the local level it is necessary to collect new data in most cases. The main aim of this study is to investigate how resilience indicators with different stages of operationalization can be developed at the local level. Using the example of the Swiss canton of Grisons, three local-level partial indicators for community resilience against natural hazard are developed. In this process qualitative research is the necessary basis to construct quantitative indicators. For each partial indicator different stages of quantification are offered to illustrate how quantitatively operationalized indicators can be developed and to examine their strengths and weaknesses. For this purpose a classification of different indicator operationalization stages is proposed,ranging from vague qualitative criteria to fully quantified criteria.

Potentially explosive atmosphere can occur not only in the production systems of the food,energy,chemical and petrochemical industries but also in the production processes of the mining ***,vapours,mists and dusts arise can escape in an uncontrolled way during production,processing,transportation and storage of flammable *** combination with oxygen,they create explosive atmospheres that,if ignited,lead to an explosion causing catastrophic damage to peopled lives and *** protect against the results of hazardous dust-gas mixtures explosions in a confined work space,where employees can stay,various control and protection mechanisms are used in the form of an active explosion-proof *** article presents the results of tests on an active system for limiting the effects of ignition of gas and/or dust based on a highly efficient explosion suppression system-equipped with an ignition detection system,high-pressure fire extinguisher and a power supply and trigger *** powder was used as the explosive charge and sodium bicarbonate as the suppressive *** of the effectiveness of the active explosion suppression system were carried out on two devices:a small-size dry dust collector and a zone extinguishing system adapted for direct explosion suppression in closed working *** both cases,the explosion suppression process took place through the action of extinguishing powder blown out of the fire extinguisher after membrane perforation by compressed combustion products.

BACKGROUND Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy(ICP)is a rare but severe complication for both the mother and the unborn *** diagnosis is primarily based on elevated serum levels of bile *** a large ICP cohort,we here study in detail liver stiffness(LS)using transient elastography(TE),now widely used to noninvasively screen for liver cirrhosis within *** To specifically explore LS in a large cohort of women with ICP compared to a control group with uncomplicated *** LS and hepatic steatosis marker controlled attenuation parameter(CAP)were measured in 100 pregnant women with ICP using TE(Fibroscan,Echosens,Paris,France)between 2010 and *** 17 cases,LS could be measured postpartum.450 women before and 38 women after delivery with uncomplicated pregnancy served as control *** laboratory,levels of bile acids and apoptosis marker caspase-cleaved cytokeratin 18 fragment(M30)were also *** Women with ICP had significantly elevated transaminases but normal gammaglutamyl transferase(GGT).Mean LS was significantly increased at 7.3±3.0 kPa compared to the control group at 6.2±2.3 kPa(P<0.0001).Postpartum LS decreased significantly in both groups but was still higher in ICP(5.8±1.7 kPa vs 4.2±0.9 kPa,P<0.0001),*** ICP,LS was highly significantly correlated with levels of bile acids and M30 but not *** correlation was seen with GGT that even increased significantly after delivery in the ICP *** acids were mostly correlated with the liver apoptosis marker M30,LS and levels of alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotransferase,and *** multivariate analysis,LS remained the sole parameter that was independently associated with elevated bile *** In conclusion,LS is significantly elevated in ICP which is most likely due to toxic bile acid accumulation and hepatocyte *** association with conventional laboratory markers,LS provides additional non-invasive informati

New reconfigurable computing architectures are introduced to overcome some of the limitations of conventional microprocessors and fine-grained reconfigurable devices （e.g., FPGAs）. One of the new promising architectures axe Configurable System-on-Chip （CSoC） solutions. They were designed to offer high computational performance for real-time signal processing and for a wide range of applications exhibiting high degrees of parallelism. The programming of such systems is an inherently challenging problem due to the lack of an programming model. This paper describes a novel heterogeneous system architecture for signal processing and data streaming applications. It offers high computational performance and a high degree of flexibility and adaptability by employing a micro Task Controller （mTC） unit in conjunction with programmable and configurable hardware. The hierarchically organized architecture provides a programming model, allows an efficient mapping of applications and is shown to be easy scalable to future VLSI technologies. Several mappings of commonly used digital signal processing algorithms for future telecommunication and multimedia systems and implementation results axe given for a standard-cell ASIC design realization in 0.18 micron 6-layer UMC CMOS technology.
