Insight into the growth behaviors of MoS_(2)nanograins influenced by step edges and atomic structure of the substrate

The step edges and intrinsic atomic structure of single-crystal substrate play a critical role in determining the growth pathways of transition metal dichalcogenide(TMD)grains,particularly whether the TMDs will grow into wafer-scale single-crystal or anisotropic ***,we investigate the growth behaviours of the MoS_(2)nanograins on(0001)and()sapphire *** one hand,the step edges formed on the(0001)surface after thermal treatment are found to promote the macroscopic aggregation of MoS_(2)nanograins and to form unidirectional large triangular islands along with thesteps in the annealing process,while on the pristine(0001)surface,the MoS_(2)nanograins grow into a random network-like ***,oxygen treatment on the substrate can further enhance the growth of MoS_(2)*** electron microscopy and fast Fourier transform patterns reveal that the substrate could modulate the orientation of MoS_(2)nanograins during their growing *** the other hand,the MoS_(2)nanograins on the surface could self-assemble into one-dimensional nanoribbons due to the strong structural anisotropy of the *** addition,the ratio of raman intensities for peaks that correspond to the and A1g phonon modes shows a linear relationship with the grain size due to the change of the“phonon confinement”.Moreover,new peaks located at 226 and 280 cm−1 can be observed in the off-resonant and resonant raman spectra for the MoS_(2)nanograin samples,respectively,which can be attributed to the scatterings from the edges of as-fabricated MoS_(2)nanostructures.

Photosynthetic microalgae like Nannochloropsis hold enormous potential as sustainable,light-driven biofactories for the production of high-value natural products such as *** oceanica is distinguished as a particularly robust host with extensive genomic and transgenic resources *** capacity to grow in wastewater,brackish,and sea waters,coupled with advances in microalgal metabolic engineering,genome editing,and synthetic biology,provides an excellent *** the present work,we demonstrate how *** can be engineered to produce the diterpene casbene—an important intermediate in the biosynthesis of pharmacologically relevant macrocyclic *** accumulated after stably expressing and targeting the casbene synthase from Daphne genkwa(DgTPS1)to the algal *** engineered strains yielded production titers of up to 0.12 mg g^(−1) total dry cell weight(DCW)*** overexpression and chloroplast targeting of two upstream rate-limiting enzymes in the 2-C-methyl-d-erythritol 4-phosphate pathway,Coleus forskohlii 1-deoxy-d-xylulose-5-phosphate synthase and geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthase genes,further enhanced the yield of casbene to a titer up to 1.80 mg g^(−1) *** results presented here form a basis for further development and production of complex plant diterpenoids in microalgae.

Post-processing of biochars to enhance plant growth responses:a review and meta-analysis

A number of processes for post-production treatment of“raw”biochars,including leaching,aeration,grinding or sieving to reduce particle size,and chemical or steam activation,have been suggested as means to enhance biochar effectiveness in agriculture,forestry,and environmental ***,I review studies on post-production processing methods and their effects on biochar physio-chemical properties and present a meta-analysis of plant growth and yield responses to post-processed vs.“raw”*** from 23 studies provide a total of 112 comparisons of responses to processed *** biochars,and 103 comparisons allowing assessment of effects relative to biochar particle size;additional 8 published studies involving 32 comparisons provide data on effects of biochar ***,post-processed biochars resulted in significantly increased average plant growth responses 14%above those observed with unprocessed *** overall effect was driven by plant growth responses to reduced biochar particle size,and heating/aeration *** assessment of biochar effects by particle size indicates a peak at a particle size of 0.5-1.0 *** leachate treatments showed very high heterogeneity among studies and no average growth benefit.I conclude that physiochemical post-processing of biochar offers substantial additional agronomic benefits compared to the use of unprocessed *** research on post-production treatments effects will be important for biochar utilization to maximize benefits to carbon sequestration and system productivity in agriculture,forestry,and environmental restoration.

Novel Gluten-Free Amaranth and Oat Flour Cookies Fortified with Soybean Hulls

Soybean hulls, an abundant byproduct of soybean processing, contain rich phytochemicals, fibers, proteins, and minerals. Currently soybean hulls are primarily used as animal feeds. For value-added soybean hull utilization, 25% soybean hulls were substituted for amaranth or whole oat flour (WOF) in novel gluten-free cookies. Composition, nutritional values, water-holding capacities, correlation between properties, and pasting and rheological properties of soybean hulls, amaranth, and WOF were appraised in comparison to wheat flour. Water loss, cookie texture, and geometrical properties of the cookies were examined. The results disclosed that soybean hulls, amaranth and WOF contain higher protein content, minerals, fiber, special amino acids, and critical vitamins (C and K) than wheat flour. Considerably higher total amino acid content was found in soybean hulls (18.33%) than wheat flour (12.77%). Water-holding capacities increased by replacing amaranth and WOF with soybean hulls. Soybean hulls exhibited higher rheological elastic properties than amaranth, WOF and wheat flours. The soybean hulls utilized in amaranth or WOF cookies greatly improved their nutritional value, the water retention and moisture content along with acceptable physical properties when compared to wheat flour cookies. This study explored the feasibility and potential of utilizing soybean hulls with amaranth and WOF in gluten-free bakery products and other food applications.
