Fluid-driven Hydrovolcanic Activity along Fracture Zones and near Seamounts:Evidence from Deep-sea Fe-rich Spherules,Central Indian Ocean Basin

An insight on occurrence of Fe-rich spherules from the Central Indian Ocean Basin(CIOB)provides an understanding of their distribution at a water depth of>5,000 *** the present study,Fe-rich spherules are identified to occur in two different sediment types(i.e.,siliceous and pelagic)and tectonic settings(*** seamounts and fracture zones).These are single spheres or aggregates,of different sizes(63 to 390μm)and show textural variability(smooth/quenched,brickwork,corkscrew,interlocking and dendritic).A comparative study based on physical morphology and chemical composition suggests a common mechanism of *** association of spherules with fracture zones(FZ)and seamounts signifies that morpho-tectonic features play an important role in fluid-driven *** on the evidence and geologic conditions existing in the basin,we conclude that molten fuel-coolant interaction(MFCI)coupled with submarine hydrothermal exhalations could be an ideal mechanism for the formation of spherules and *** accretion of the spherules on the surface sediments could be a result of recent volcanic phenomena,while those occurring at different depths(280-355,and 460-475 cm-bsf)within the sediment core indicate two different *** study provides a global implication in understanding fluid-driven magmatism in a deep-sea intraplate environment.

Feeding of processed vegetable wastes to bulls and its potential environmental benefit

The study was conducted with the objectives to quantify year round availability of different vegetables waste(VW) in a wholesale market and to determine the inclusion level of a processed VW(VWP) in the diets of bulls. The daily VW biomass availability at Kawran bazaar, Dhaka, Bangladesh was quantified by weighing the vegetable supply and their wastes by visiting 2 days in a week. Concurrently, VW of cucumber, bitter gourd, spotted gourd, brinjal, pumpkin, potato, tomato, ladies finger, and snake gourd representing 0.21, 0.18, 0.17, 0.16, 0.09, 0.07, 0.06, 0.03, and 0.02 as fresh fractions, respectively were blended, dried and stored while adding rice polish and common salt at 200 and 20 g/kg DM, respectively;it was tested in bulls as an ingredient of concentrate mixture. Four dietary groups, each of 6 bulls, with initial average live weight(LW) of 85.47 ± 17 kg, were fed fresh German grass(Echinochloa polystachya)ad libitum supplemented with 4 different concentrates containing 0, 10%, 20% and 30% VWP at the rate of1% of LW for 89 days. The availability of VW biomass of the market was 42.51 t/d and recycling of them as feed, instead of using landfills, might reduce annual methane emission by 0.43 Gg. The inclusion of VWP in the diet up to 9.7% of DM, or 0.30% of LW of bulls showed no significant effect on the DM intake,digestibility, growth performance and health status of bulls. The dietary DM intake represented 3.10%,3.09%, 3.20% and 3.14% of LW resulting in daily gain of 302, 300, 312 and 344 g, respectively. The digestibility of DM of diets was 56.9%, 62.8%, 62.8% and 63.4%, respectively. It was concluded that VWP may be included at a level of 9.7% of the diet(DM basis) or 0.30% of LW of bulls.

Combining Cubic Spline Interpolation and Fast Fourier Transform to Extend Measuring Range of Reflectometry

The reflectometry is a common method used to measure the thickness of thin films. Using a conventional method,its measurable range is limited due to the low resolution of the current spectrometer embedded in the *** present a simple method, using cubic spline interpolation to resample the spectrum with a high resolution,to extend the measurable transparent film thickness. A large measuring range up to 385 m in optical thickness is achieved with the commonly used system. The numerical calculation and experimental results demonstrate that using the FFT method combined with cubic spline interpolation resampling in reflectrometry, a simple,easy-to-operate, economic measuring system can be achieved with high measuring accuracy and replicability.

Tsunami hazard in the shorelines of Khark island (Persian Gulf),Iran

Iran is located in one of the seismically active regions of the world. Due to the high probability of earthquakes throughout the country and the potential for tsunami inundation along the coasts and offshore, comprehensive studies on theinteraction of these natural phenomena arc necessary, hi this study, the most conservative scenarios are determined for possible earthquakes within the Khark zone （Persian Gulf） *** on experimental relations between tile fault length, magnitude and displacement, which are paralneters for deter- mining tsunamigenic sources. Subsequently, the maximum height of tstmami waves are calculated based on the specitieations of the seismic source and its distance from the shore as well as the coastal slope. A zoning map of tsunami hazard is finally presented.

Nitrification inhibitors are widely used in agriculture to mitigate nitrous oxide(N_(2)O)emission and increase crop ***,no concrete information on their mitigation of N_(2)O emission is available under soil and environmental conditions as in Pakistan.A field experiment was established using a silt clay loam soil from Peshawar,Pakistan,to study the effect of urea applied in combination with a nitrification inhibitor,nitrapyrin(2-chloro-6-tri-chloromethyl pyridine),and/or a plant growth regulator,gibberellic acid(GA_3),on N_(2)O emission and the nitrogen(N)uptake efficiency of *** experimental design was a randomized complete block with five treatments in four replicates:control with no N(CK),urea(200 kg N ha^(-1))alone,urea in combination with nitrapyrin(700 g ha^(-1)),urea in combination with GA_3(60 g ha^(-1)),and urea in combination with nitrapyrin and GA_*** N_(2)O emission,yield,N response efficiency,and total N uptake were measured during the experimental *** treatment with urea and nitrapyrin reduced total N_(2)O emission by 39%–43%and decreased yield-scaled N_(2)O emission by 47%–52%,relative to the treatment with urea *** maize plant biomass,grain yield,and total N uptake increased significantly by 23%,17%,and 15%,respectively,in the treatment with urea and nitrapyrin,relative to the treatment with urea alone,which was possibly due to N saving,lower N loss,and increased N uptake in the form of ammonium;they were further enhanced in the treatment with urea,nitrapyrin,and GA_3 by 27%,36%,and 25%,respectively,probably because of the stimulating effect of GA_3 on plant growth and development and the reduction in biotic and abiotic *** results suggest that applying urea in combination with nitrapyrin and GA_3 has the potential to mitigate N_(2)O emission,improve N response efficiency,and increase maize yield.

Background:The therapeutic effectiveness of interleukin-6 receptor inhibitor in critically ill hospitalized patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is ***:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the outcome as recovery or death of tocilizumab for severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2)infection,we conducted a randomized,double-blinded,placebo-controlled phase 2 trial in critically ill COVID-19 adult *** patients were randomly assigned in a 4:1 ratio to receive standard medical treatment plus the recommended dose of either tocilizumab or the placebo *** was *** primary outcome was the recovery or death after administration of tocilizumab or a placebo *** secondary outcomes were clinical recovery or worsening of the patients’symptoms and inflammatory markers and discharge from the ***:Of 190 patients included in this study,152 received tocilizumab,and 38 received a *** duration of hospital stay of the interventional group was 12.9±9.2,while the placebo group had a more extended hospital stay(15.6±8.8).The mortality ratio for the primary outcome,ie,mortality or recovery in the tocilizumab group was 17.8%;p=0.58 by log-rank test).The mortality ratio in the placebo group was 76.3%;p=0.32 by log-rank test).The inflammatory markers in the tocilizumab group significantly declined by day 16 compared to the placebo ***:The use of tocilizumab was associated with decreased mortality,earlier improvement of inflamma-tory markers,and reduced hospital stay in patients with severe COVID-19.

Vascular complications of transcatheter aortic valve replacement:A concise literature review

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement(TAVR) is a relatively newer therapeutic modality which offers a promising alternative to surgical aortic valve replacement for patients with prohibitive, high and intermediate surgical risk. The increasing trend to pursue TAVR in these patients has also led to growing awareness of the associated potential vascular complications. The significant impact of these complications on eventual clinical outcome and mortality makes prompt recognition and timely management a critical factor in TAVR patients. We hereby present a concise review with emphasis on diverse vascular complications associated with TAVR and their effective management to improve overall clinical outcomes.

Methane Gas Sensor Based on Microstructured Highly Sensitive Hybrid Porous Core Photonic Crystal Fiber

We have demonstrated and analyzed the methane gas sensor based on octagonal cladding and hexagonal hybrid porous core photonic crystal fiber (HPC-PCF) for gas detection purpose. The proposed design of HPC-PCF has been numerically investigated by COMSOL Multiphysics software through utilizing the full vectorial finite element method (FEM). The optical characteristics of HPC-PCF as well as confinement loss, relative sensitivity and refractive index, effective area, nonlinearity and numerical aperture are optimized properly by changing the geometrical parameters as well as air filling ratio, air hole diameter, pitch constant of cladding and porosity of the core. In this simulation work, we have achieved optimum relative sensitivity of 21.2%, and confinement loss of 0.000025 dB/m at 3 μm pitch, 0.7 air filling ratio of the cladding and 29% porosity of the core for 3.5 μm absorption wavelength of CH4 gas. This proposed design of HPC-PCF will keep exclusive contribution for detecting the CH4 gas accurately.

Comparative investigation of the free radical scavenging potential and anticancer property of Diospyros blancoi(Ebenaceae)

Objective: To investigate the comparative effects of Diospyros blancoi(Ebenaceae)leaves(DBL), root bark(DBRB) and stem bark(DBSB) on free radicals and ***: The polyphenol contents, antioxidant and free radical scavenging properties were determined using standard spectrophotometric methods. Cytotoxicity and anticancer activities were performed on brine shrimp nauplii and Ehrlich ascite carcinoma cells, ***: Among the extracts, DBSB showed the highest total antioxidant capacity and reducing capacity on ferrous ion. Based on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and hydroxyl radical scavenging activities, DBSB showed(95.760 ± 0.343)% and(67.460 ± 2.641)%scavenging with IC50of(3.10 ± 0.17) and(50.00 ± 3.11) mg/m L, respectively. The IC50 values of standard butylated hydroxytoluene and catechin(CA) for 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and hydroxyl radicals were(8.50 ± 0.25) and(75.00 ± 0.14) mg/m L,respectively suggesting that DBSB had a significant(P DBRB > CA > ***, the phenolic [(139.91 ± 3.924) mg gallic acid equivalent/g] and flavonoid contents[(412.00 ± 16.70) mg catechin equivalent/g)] of DBSB were higher than that of other extracts. In addition, the DBSB showed the moderate cytotoxic and anticancer ***: Our results indicate that Diospyros blancoi stem bark had the significant highest antioxidant and free radical scavenging properties as well as moderate anticancer ***, we assume that the anticancer activity of this plant can be, at least in part, attributed to its content in phenolic compounds as well as its significant free radical scavenging properties.
