桃实蝇的DNA条形码鉴定

桃实蝇(Bactrocera zonata)严重危害桃、番石榴、番荔枝等经济作物,被我国列为进境植物检疫性有害生物。为明确桃实蝇各虫态的重要形态鉴定特征,并将DNA条形码技术应用于桃实蝇的鉴定,本研究针对采自于印度旁遮普邦的桃实蝇卵、幼虫、蛹和成虫样品进行了形态观察和分子鉴定。结果表明:桃实蝇成虫整体呈红褐色,头部具一对卵圆形黑色颜面斑。翅除前缘带和臀条外几乎透明,r2+3室端部具“痣状”小褐斑,延伸至r4+5室端部。实蝇成虫及蛹样品的COI条形码序列与GenBank中收录的桃实蝇序列相似度在99.24%~100%之间;基于COI条形码构建的系统发育树显示本研究所有样品和桃实蝇聚在一个分支上。本研究表明DNA条形码技术可有效应用于桃实蝇的准确鉴定。

Linear Least Square (LLS) is an approach for modeling regression analysis, applied for prediction and quantification of the strength of relationship between dependent and independent variables. There are a number of methods for solving the LLS problem but as soon as the data size increases and system becomes ill conditioned, the classical methods become complex at time and space with decreasing level of accuracy. Proposed work is based on prediction and quantification of the strength of relationship between sugar fasting and Post-Prandial (PP) sugar with 73 factors that affect diabetes. Due to the large number of independent variables, presented problem of diabetes prediction also presented similar complexities. ABS method is an approach proven better than other classical approaches for LLS problems. ABS algorithm has been applied for solving LLS problem. Hence, separate regression equations were obtained for sugar fasting and PP severity.

Objective:To evaluate the hepatoprotective potential of ethanolic(50%) extract of Ziziphus oenoplia(L.) Mill(***) root against isoniazid(INH) and rifampicin(RIF) induced liver damage in animal ***:Five groups of six rats each were selected for the *** extract at a dose of 150 and 300 mg/kg as well as silymarin(100 mg/kg) were administered orally once daily for 21 d in INH + RIF treated *** serum levels of glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase(SGOT),glutamate pyruvate transaminase(SGPT),alkaline phosphatase (SALP),and bilirubin were estimated along with activities of superoxide dismutase,catalase, glutathione S-transferase,glutathione peroxidase,and hepatic melondialdehyde formation. Histopathological analysis was carried out to assess injury to the ***:The considerably elevated serum enzymatic activities of glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase,glutamate pyruvate transaminase,alkaline phosphatase and bilirubin due to INH + RIF treatment were restored towards norma) in a dose dependent manner after the treatment with ethanolic extract of *** ***,the decreased activities of superoxide dismutase,catalase, glutathione S-transferase and glutathione peroxidase were also restored towards normal dose *** addition,ethanolic extract also significantly prevented the elevation of hepatic melondialdehyde formation in the liver of INH + RIF intoxicated rats in a dose dependent manner. The biochemical observations were supplemented with histopathological examination of rat liver ***:The results of this study slrongly indicate that ethanolic extract of *** has a potent hepatoprotective action against INH + RIF induced hepatic damage in rats.

Objective: To compare the haemodynamic effects of the induction agents ketamine, etomidate and sevoflurane using the model of electrical velocimetry based cardiac output monitoring in paediatric cardiac surgical patients. Design: Prospective randomized study. Setting: Tertiary care hospital. Participants: 60 children < 2 years age undergoing cardiac surgery. Interventions: The patients were randomized into 3 equal groups to receive 1.5-2.5 mg/kg iv ketamine (group K), 0.2-0.3 mg/kg iv etomidate (group E) or upto 8% sevoflurane (group S) as the induction agent. Hemodynamic parameters were noted before and after induction of anaesthesia utilizing a noninvasive cardiac monitor based on the model of electrical velocimetry. Measurements and Main Results: The demographic characteristics of the patients were similar in the three groups. The HR decreased in all groups, least in group E (P ≤ 0.01) but the MAP decreased only in group S (P ≤ 0.001). In group S, the stroke volume improved from 9 ± 3.2 ml to 10 ± 3.2 ml (P ≤ 0.05) and the stroke volume variation decreased from 25% ± 6.4% to 13% ± 6.2% (P ≤ 0.001). The stroke index and systemic arterial saturation improved in all groups (P ≤ 0.01). The cardiac index and index of contractility were unchanged. The transthoracic fluid content reduced in groups E and S, but did not change in group K (P ≤ 0.05). Conclusions: Etomidate appeared to provide the most stable conditions for induction of anesthesia in children undergoing cardiac surgery, followed by ketamine and sevoflurane.

New early Eocene vertebrate assemblage from western India reveals a mixed fauna of European and Gondwana affinities

The Ypresian Cambay Shale Formation at Vastan and Mangrol lignite mines in Gujarat, western India, has yielded a rich vertebrate fauna with numerous taxa of European affinities. Here we report a new, approximately contemporary vertebrate assemblage from two fossiliferous layers in the nearby mine of Tadkeshwar. These layers have yielded a similar mammal fauna with the co-occurrence of the perissodactyl-like cambaytheriid Cambaytherium thewissi, the adapoid primates Marcgodinotius indicus and cf. Asiadapis cambayensis, and the hyaenodontid lndohyaenodon raoi. The presence of these species in both Vastan and Tadkeshwar mines and at different levels suggests that the deposits between the two major lignite seams represent a single land mammal age. Apart from the aforementioned species there is a new, smaller species of Cambaytherium, and a new genus and species of esthonychid tillodont. This fauna also contains the first large early Eocene vertebrates from India, including an unidentified Coryphodon-like pantodont, a dyrosaurid crocodyliform and a new giant madtsoiid snake. Among the Tadkeshwar vertebrates several taxa are of Gondwana affinities, such as Pelomedusoides turtles, dyr- osaurids, and large madtsoiids, attesting that the early Eocene was a crucial period in India during which Laurasian taxa of European affinities co-existed with relict taxa from Gondwana before the India-Asia collision. Our results suggest that terrestrial faunas could have dispersed to or from Europe during episodes of contact between the Indian subcontinent and different island blocks along the northern margin of the Neotethys, such as the Kohistan Ladakh island-arc system. Gondwana taxa might represent remnants of ghost lineages shared with Madagascar, which reached the Indian subcontinent during the late Cretaceous; alternatively they might have come from North Africa and passed along the southern margin of the Neotethys to reach the Indian subcontinent. GaN/InGaN based violet light emitting diodes (LEDs), emitting at 430 nm, have been grown on conventional single side polished (SSP) and patterned sapphire substrates (PSS). Characteristics of the epitaxial wafers and subsequently fabricated LEDs have been analyzed. The photoluminescence (PL) peaks have been observed at 428.1 nm 426.1 nm for the epitaxial layers on SSP and PSS respectively. The PL intensity is 2.9 times higher in the case of PSS. The electroluminescence (EL) peaks have been observed at 430.78 nm and 430.35 nm for the LEDs on SSP and PSS respectively. The light output from LED fabricated on the PSS is 2.15 times higher than that of the LED on SSP at a forward current of 100 mA.
