In this paper, an efficient scheme for recognition of handwritten Odia numerals using hidden markov model （HMM） has been proposed. Three different feature vectors for each of the numeral is generated through a polygonal approximation of object contour. Subsequently, aggregated feature vector for each numeral is derived from these three primary feature vectors using a fuzzy inference system. The final feature vector is divided into three levels and interpreted as three different states for HMM. Ten different three-state ergodic hidden markov models （HMMs） are thus constructed corresponding to ten numeral classes and parameters are calculated from these models. For the recognition of a probe numeral, its log-likelihood against these models are computed to decide its class label. The proposed scheme is implemented on a dataset of 2500 handwritten samples and a recognition accuracy of 96.3% has been achieved. The scheme is compared with other competent schemes.

AIM： To elucidate the mechanism of multidrug resistance in retinoblastoma, and to acquire more insights into in vivo drug ***： Three anticancer drug resistant Y79 human RB cells were generated against vincristine, etoposide or carboplatin, which are used for conventional chemotherapy in RB. Primary cultures from enucleated eyes after chemotherapy（PCNC） were also prepared. Their chemosensitivity to chemotherapeutic agents（vincristine, etoposide and carboplatin） were measured using MTT assay. Western blot analysis was performed to evaluate the expression of p53, Bcl-2 and various multidrug resistant proteins in retinoblastoma ***： Following exposure to chemotherapeutic drugs, PCNC showed less sensitivity to drugs. No significant changes observed in the p53 expression, whereas Bcl-2 expression was found to be increased in the drug resistant cells as well as in PCNC. Increased expression of P-glycoprotein（P-gp） was observed in drug resistant Y79 cells; however there was no significant change in the expression of P-gp found between primary cultures of primarily enucleated eyes and PCNC. Multidrug resistance protein 1（Mrp-1） expression was found to be elevated in the drug resistant Y79 cells as well as in PCNC. No significant change in the expression of lung resistance associatedprotein（Lrp） was observed in the drug resistant Y79 cells as well as in ***： Our results suggest that multidrug resistant proteins are intrinsically present in retinoblastoma which causes treatment failure in managing retinoblastoma with chemotherapy.

Objective： Polygonaturn verticillatum （L） All. （Ruscaceae）, one of the Ashtawarga plants, is widely used for treatment of various ailments. The present study was undertaken to determine the phenolic composition, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities of several extracts （petroleum ether, dichloro- methane, chloroform, ethanol, and aqueous） from the rhizomes of the plant. Methods： Coarsely powdered dry rhizome was successively extracted with different solvents of increas- ing polarity （petroleum ether, dichloromethane, chloroform, ethanol and water）. The phenolic composi- tions, in terms of total phenolic content （TPC）, total flavonoid content （TFC） and total condensed tannin content （JTC）, were evaluated with the Folin-Ciocalteu assay, aluminum chloride colorimetric assay and vanillin spectrophotometric assay, respectively. Total antioxidant capacity, 1,1-diphenyl-2- picrylhydrazyl and 2,2＇-azino-his（3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid） assays were used to assess the antioxidant potential of each extract. A protein denaturation model and 3-（4,5-dimethylthiazol-2- yl）-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay were used to evaluate in vitro anti-inflammatory and anti- cancer activities, respectively. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry （GC/MS） analysis was carried out to demonstrate various phytoconstituents in each extract. Correlation studies were also performed between phenolic composition （TPC, TFC and TFC） and different biological activities. Results： Ethanol extract showed maximum TPC （0.126 mg/g, gallic acid equivalent in dry sample）, TFC （0.094 mg/g, rutin equivalent in dry sample） and TTC （29.32 mg/g, catechin equivalent in dry sample）, as well as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Subdural hematomas are often life-threatening when acute but chronic subdural hematomas, however, have better prognosis if properly managed. Chronic subdural hematomas are common in the elderly due to shrinkage of brain tissue, but in young patient mostly associated with head injury. It is seen also in young having various coagulopathies associated with blood disorders or drug-induced, but it is very rare. Propylthiouracil (PTU) is an oral medication that is used in treatment of hyperthyroidism approved by FDA in July 1947. This medication may rarely cause very serious blood disorders (such as a low number of red cells, white cells, and platelets), especially during the first few months of treatment. We are reporting a rare case of PTU-induced thrombocytopenia leading to chronic subdural haematoma, which presented with established papilledema and signs of raised ICP in a hyperthyroid female and she responded well to surgical management.

Metal oxide semiconductor（MOS） device down-scaling is a powerful driving force for the evolution of microelectronics. The downsizing rate of metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors（MOSFETs） is really marvelous. Silicon dioxide（SiO2） has served as a perfect gate dielectric for the last four decades. Due to physical limitations, leakage current, high interface trap charge it now needs to be replaced with higher permittivity dielectric material. Keeping the motivation for the search of high-k materials, extensive studies have been carried out on several metal oxides, such as ZrO2, ta2O5, TiO2, Al2O3and HfO2for the replacement of SiO2. The high dielectric constant（k） of titanium dioxide（TiO2） will open multifaceted prospects for the use of this material in microelectronic devices. In this paper, a comparative study of various deposition methods for fabrication of thin TiO2films has been presented. This work uses a combination of simulation results, experimental data and critical analysis of published data. Further, an experiment using sol-gel method has been carried out to deposit thin films of TiO2. It has been characterized and compared with the earlier reported fabrication methods. The X-ray diffraction analyses and Raman spectra indicate the presence of anatase TiO2phase in the film. The dielectric constant as calculated using capacitance-voltage（C-V） analysis was found to be 23. The refractive index of the film was *** TiO2films studied for microelectronic applications and present acceptable properties such as low leakage current density of 1.0×10–5A/cm at 1 V and band gap of 3.6 eV. The leakage current has been found to be dominant by the Schottky emission at lower electric field, while Flower-Nordheim（F-N） tunneling occurs at higher biasing voltages.

Recent advancements in perovskites’ application as a solar energy harvester have been astonishing. The power conversion efficiency(PCE) of perovskite solar cells(PSCs) is currently reaching parity(>25 percent), an accomplishment attained over past decades. PSCs are seen as perovskites sandwiched between an electron transporting material(ETM) and a hole transporting material(HTM). As a primary component of PSCs, HTM has been shown to have a considerable effect on solar energy harvesting, carrier extraction and transport, crystallization of perovskite, stability, and price. In PSCs, it is still necessary to use a *** perovskites are capable of conducting holes, they are present in trace amounts, necessitating the use of an HTM layer for efficient charge extraction. In this review, we provide an understanding of the significant forms of HTM accessible(inorganic, polymeric and small molecule-based HTMs), to motivate further research and development of such materials. The identification of additional criteria suggests a significant challenge to high stability and affordability in PSC.
