Hydrogen separation and purification are two important chemical processes in the extensive application of hydrogen energy. Membrane technology has opened up a potential solution to the problems of separation and purification in an energy effective way. Membranes of adequate hydrogen permeability, good thermal and mechanical stability are the key to successful application of membrane technology in hydrogen separation and purification. In this paper, the relative parameters concerning hydrogen permeability, the development of different types of membranes namely: palladium composite membranes; V-based alloy membranes, specific functionality embraced alloy membranes, metal hydride (MH) thin films and fabrications, were reviewed and discussed. Pd-free membranes are found to be the ideal alternatives. Suitable MH thin films with mono- or multi-layer microstructures produced by novel fabrication techniques, is likely to be the promising candidates due to possessing properties distinct from those of bulk materials in membrane form.

Structural stability of single-layered LaNi_4.25Al_0.75 film and its electro-chemical hydrogen-storage properties

AB5-based hydrogen storage thin fdms （LaNi4.25Al0.75）, deposited on Cu substrate by dc magnetron sputtering were investigated in this study. X-ray diffraction （XRD） revealed that the microstructure of the layer was in crystal form. SEM and AFM analyses proved that the film appeared to be rather rough with numerous randomly sized pores of approximately 15-40 in nm diameter. Structural stability of the film was examined by the combined analyses of DSC, XRD, and SEM, which indicated that this film maintained its structural stability below 500 K or so, and a network structure was observed on the film after being heated at 700 K for 30 min. Electrochemical hydrogen-storage properties of the films were investigated by simulated battery tests. It was found that single-layered LaNi4.25A10.75 film exhibited electrochemical hydrogen-storage properties similar to typical AB5 alloys in bulk, and the maximum discharge capacity of the film was about 220 mAh/g. After 20 charge/discharge cycles, small needle-shaped aluminium oxide was formed on some fractions of the film surface.

Interprofessional Team-Based Learning: A Revealing Process for Cultivating Professional Identity among Nursing Students

Background: Nurses are significant healthcare team members. It is vital to examine their gains in an interprofessional education (ipE). Purpose: We aimed to examine the perceived benefits of interprofessional team-based learning (ipTBL) on the entry level nursing students. Methods: Content analysis was adopted to identify categories in the reflections of the entry-level undergraduate nursing student ipTBL experiences. Results: There were 205 (male = 34) undergraduate nursing students (response rate 82.2%) participating in the present study. In line with the Interprofessional Education Collaborative Report (ipEC) core competencies, four categories were identified: 1) Values/Ethics for Interprofessional Practice, 2) Roles/Responsibilities, 3) Interprofessional Communication, and 4) Teams and Teamwork. A new category emerged—individual learning outcomes. Conclusion: Through ip interactions and the expectation of the ip team, the nursing students had built confidence and defined the nurses’ roles.
