Influence of Sanitization Process on maintaining Sweet Potato Quality for Export

The whole cold-chain for exporting sweet potato(native variety“Abees”),to foreign market included immediate curing operation directly after harvest helped in healing skin texture,however,in order to reduce postharvest soft rot(Rhizopus stolonifer)incidence following trimming,and washing,ultraviolet light(UV-C)treatment was used as a main sanitizer for eliminating the soft *** of the roots to UV-C(254 nm)was applied in a UV-C room on freshly harvested and cured sweet potato while rolling up on a movable line at 20 cm distance for 1,2,and 3 *** combining UV-C treatment with chlorine(200 ppm)on roots,marked and significant reduction of the total microbial load and Rhizopus potential was achieved on root surfaces respectively com.a.ed with chlorine *** also reduced soft rot percentage to almost 0%*** 3 months of cold-storage,quality assessment of sweet potato showed that root characteristics were markedly *** ability of UV-C light to induce phenylalanine ammonia lyase(PAL)enzyme activity in root tissue and maintain the activities of peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase,however with slight increase,was ***-C caused an increase of phenol content in sweet potato tissue that made an activation of defense reaction against the rot causal *** the exposure time to UV-C light increased,a higher content of phenols ***,UV-C application caused decrease in sugar content of root tissue that is flavored by soft rot-causal pathogen.

Increasing global water shortages are accelerating the pace of membrane manufacturing,which generates many environmentally harmful *** challenges need a radical rethink of developing innovative membranes that can address freshwater production without generating environmentally harmful *** work utilized the synthesized ultra-long hydroxyapatite(UHA)by the solvothermal method using the green solvent oleic acid in preparing UHA-based forward osmosis *** membranes were developed using different loading ratios of graphene oxide(GO)by vacuum.a.sisted filtration *** prepared GO/UHA membranes were identified using X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscope,Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,and X-ray photoelectron *** contact angle and pore size distribution were determined for the obtained GO/UHA *** obtained hierarchical porous structure in the prepared membranes with interconnected channels results in a stable water flux with reverse salt *** best water flux rate of 42±2 L·m^(–2)·h^(–1)was achieved using the 50 mg GO/UHA membrane,which is 3.3 times higher than the pristine membrane,and a reverse salt flux of 67 g·m^(-2)·h^(–1).The obtained results showed a promising capability of a new generation of sustainable inorganic-based membranes that can be utilized in freshwater generation by energy-efficient techniques such as forward osmosis.

Evaluation of hybrid closed-loop insulin delivery system in type 1 diabetes in real-world clinical practice:One-year observational study

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate retrospectively our experience with percutaneous cystolithotomy (PCCL) in children having endemic urinary bladder stones. methods: Between January 1993 and June 2003, 155 children younger than 14 years underwent PCCL. The patients’ age ranged from 8 months to 14 years (average, 4.5 years). One hundred fifteen patients (74.2% ) were 5 years or younger, 31 patients (20% ) were between 6 and 10 years, and 9 patients (5.8% ) were between 11 and 14 years. There were 153 boys and 2 girls. The stone size ranged from 0.7 to 4 (average, 2.3) cm. The procedure was done under general anesthesia. Dilation of the tract was made under fluoroscopy. The instrument was the adult 26F nephroscope, the same that is used for percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Ultrasound disintegration was needed for stones larger than 1 cm. Suprapubic catheter was left for 24 hours. Urethral catheter was kept for 48 hours. Results: All patients became stonefree. The average operating time was 20 (5- 60) minutes. The average hospital stay was 2.7 (2- 5) days. No any severe intra- or postoperative complication was observed. The nucleus and/or the main component of the stones were ammonium.a.id urate in 144 patients (93% ). Conclusions: Based on our experience, we can conclude that PCCL is a safe and effective method for treatment of endemic bladder stones in children. It reduces morbidity and hospital stay, and thus the cost of treatment. Our series proves the nutritional etiology of the endemic pediatric bladder stones.

Characterization of catechol 1,2-dioxygenase from cell extracts of Sphingomonas xenophaga QYY

Sphingomonas xenophaga QYY, capable of growing significantly on more than ten kinds of aromatic compounds as sole carbon source, was used to study characterization of catechol 1,2-dioxygenase (C12O) in cell extracts. Characterization of the crude C12O showed that the maximum.a.tivity was obtained at 40–70°C and pH 7.8–8.8. metal ions had different influences on the activity of crude C12O. It was suggested that strain QYY possessed an inducible and ferric-dependent C12O. Kinetic studies showed that the value of V max and K m was 0.25 μmol catechol/L/mg protein/min and 52.85 μmol/L, respectively. In addition, the partial purification of C12O was achieved by a HiTrap Q Sepharose column chromatography.

CO oxidation and 4-nitrophenol reduction over ceria-promoted platinum nanoparticles impregnated with ZSm-5 zeolite

Active new ceria-promoted platinum supported on ZSm-5 catalysts were prepared and characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared spectra(FTIR),transform electron microscopy(TEm),temperature programmed desorption(TPD),and FTIR of CO *** samples were prepared by the incipient wetness impregnation method and calcined at 500℃.The XRD patterns and FTIR spectra prove that the zeolite framework is kept unaltered after metal *** images prove the presence of Pt nanoparticles with particle size starting from 14 to 27 *** FTIR data suggest the formation of Pt-O-Ce ***-situ FTIR of CO adsorption over reduced samples proves the presence of Pt~0 only,and no Pt^(n+)-CO species are *** prepared catalysts were tested in both oxidation reaction(CO oxidation) in the gas phase and in reduction reaction(4-nitrophenol reduction) in the aqueous ***,CO oxidation by O_(2) results in the formation of a CO_(2) peak at 2347 cm^(-1) as the only CO oxidation product in the studied frequency *** intensity of the CO_(2) peak increases after the addition of Ce,and it is 4 times higher in Pt_(1) Ce_(0.5)ZSm-5 than that in the Ce-free *** to the FTIR data and previous reports,the increase in the catalytic activity may be due to the formation of Pt-O-Ce ***,Ce-promoted Pt_(1) ZSm5 also exhibits enhanced catalytic activity towards the reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol by NaBH_(4) in the aqueous *** first-order rate constant of the reduction increases ≈13 times after incorporating equal ratios of Pt and Ce(Pt_(1) Ce_(1)ZSm-5),and the activation energy(E_(a)) decreases to 40% of that in the reaction over Pt_(1) ZSm-5.

Can lanthanum doping enhance catalytic performance of silver in direct propylene epoxidation over Nam.a./SiO_2?

In the attempt to reduce surface free energy of silica to improve interaction of silica with silver, silica was doped by different amounts of low surface energy lanthanum, La_2O_3, through impregnation. The doped and undoped silica were used as supports for preparation of Na/Ag/mo/La_2O_3-SiO_2 catalysts. Catalytic performances of the catalysts were evaluated in direct epoxidation of propylene(DPO) using molecular oxygen under atmospheric pressure and without adding hydrogen. Adding 5 wt%La to the Na/Ag/mo/SiO_2 catalyst improves both the catalysts electivity in DPO and its stability over 20h of *** characterization results show that La_2O_3 species interact strongly with silver particles on the silica surface which result in significant improvement in the dispersion profile of silver and marked decrease in the size of silver nanoparticles(AgNPs). The estimated m.a. diameter of AgNPs is ca. 4.0 nm in Na/Ag/mo/5 wt%La_2O_3-SiO_2, which is smaller than that(53.9 nm) found in Na/Ag/SiO_2. The presence of subnanometer AgNPs on Ag/La_2O_3-SiO_2 prior addition of moO_3 and NaCl to the sample can enhance the mutual electronic synergism between Ag, moO_3 and Na for selective production of propylene oxide.

The problem of predicting continuous scalar outcomes from functional predictors has received high levels of interest in recent years in many fields,especially in the food *** k-nearest neighbor(k-NN)method of Near-Infrared Reflectance(NIR)analysis is practical,relatively easy to implement,and becoming one of the most popular methods for conducting food quality based on NIR *** k-NN is often named k nearest neighbor classifier when it is used for classifying categorical variables,while it is called k-nearest neighbor regression when it is applied for predicting noncategorical *** objective of this paper is to use the functional Near-Infrared Reflectance(NIR)spectroscopy approach to predict some chemical components with some modern statistical models based on the kernel and k-Nearest Neighbour *** this paper,three NIR spectroscopy datasets are used as examples,namely Cookie dough,sugar,and tecator ***,we propose three models for this kind of data which are Functional Nonparametric Regression,Functional Robust Regression,and Functional Relative Error Regression,with both kernel and k-NN approaches to com.a.e between *** experimental result shows the higher efficiency of k-NN predictor over the kernel *** predictive power of the k-NN method was com.a.ed with that of the kernel method,and several real data sets were used to determine the predictive power of both methods.
