Forecasting river flow is crucial for optimal planning,management,and sustainability using freshwater *** machine learning(Ml)approaches have been enhanced to improve streamflow *** techniques have been viewed as a viable method for enhancing the accuracy of univariate streamflow estimation when compared to standalone *** researchers have also emphasised using hybrid models to improve forecast ***,this paper conducts an updated literature review of applications of hybrid models in estimating streamflow over the last five years,summarising data preprocessing,univariate machine learning modelling strategy,advantages and disadvantages of standalone Ml techniques,hybrid models,and performance *** study focuses on two types of hybrid models:parameter optimisation-based hybrid models(OBH)and hybridisation of parameter optimisation-based and preprocessing-based hybridmodels(HOPH).Overall,this research supports the idea thatmeta-heuristic approaches precisely improveMl ***’s also one of the first efforts to comprehensively examine the efficiency of various meta-heuristic approaches(classified into four primary classes)hybridised with Ml *** study revealed that previous research applied swarm,evolutionary,physics,and hybrid metaheuristics with 77%,61%,12%,and 12%,***,there is still room for improving OBH and HOPH models by examining different data pre-processing techniques and metaheuristic algorithms.

Memory loss and dementia are major public health concerns with a substantial economic *** stress has been shown to play a crucial role in the pathophysiology of hippocampal damage-induced memory *** investigate whether the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound vanillyla cetone(zingerone) can protect against hippocampal damage and memory loss induced by cadmium chloride(CdCl_(2)) administration in rats,we explo red the potential involvement of the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2) signaling pathway,which is known to modulate oxidative stress and *** healt hy male Wistar rats were divided into five groups:vehicle-treated(control),vanillylacetone,CdCl_(2),vanillylacetone+ CdCl_(2),vanillylacetone+ CdCl_(2)+ brusatol(a selective pharmacological N rf2inhibitor) *** effectively attenuated CdCl_(2)-induced damage in the dental gyrus of the hippocampus and improved the memory function assessed by the Morris Water Maze ***,vanillylacetone markedly decreased the hippocampal tissue levels of inflammatory biomarkers(interleukin-6,tumor necrosis factor-α,intracellular cell adhesive molecules) and apoptosis biomarkers(Bax and cleaved caspase-3).The control and CdCl_(2)-treated groups treated with va nillylacetone showed reduced generation of reactive oxygen species,decreased malondialdehyde levels,and increased superoxide dismutase and glutathione activities,along with significant elevation of nuclear Nrf2 mRNA and protein expression in hippocampal *** the protective effects of vanillylacetone we re substantially blocked by the co-administration of brusatol(a selective N rf2 inhibitor).Va nillylacetone mitigated hippocampal damage and memory loss induced by CdCl_(2),at least in part, by activating the nuclear transcription factor ***,vanillylacetone exerted its potent antioxidant and antiinflammatory actions.

Ethidium bromide(EtBr)is one of the contaminants recorded in aquatic environments whose effects have been investigated;however,there is still limited knowledge about its *** study examined the potential protective effects of Spirulina platensis(SP)against the effects of EtBr toxicity in the Nile tilapia(Oreochromis niloticus)*** were divided to five groups,viz.,a control and four treatment groups of low-dose EtBr(10μg/l),low-dose EtBr with SP(10μg/l EtBr+200 mg/l SP),high-dose EtBr(100μg/l),and high-dose EtBr with SP(100μg/l EtBr+200 mg/l SP);the exposure period was 2 *** and high doses of EtBr induced alterations in some hematological,biochemical,and histopathological *** hepatocytes,degenerated area,vacuolated hepatocytes,pyknotic nuclei,constricted and dilated blood sinusoids,and infiltration of inflammatory cells were *** peroxidation concentration was not significantly different in groups exposed to low doses of EtBr and EtBr with SP,but it was increased in groups exposed to high doses of EtBr and EtBr with SP,compared with the control *** feeding with SP,most histological and histochemical parameters restored to normal ***,SP may possess the ability to preserve the structural integrity of the hepatic and renal membranes.

Spatio-temporal dynamics of cyanobacterial abundance and toxicity in a Mediterranean hypereutrophic lake

The Mediterranean basin is considered one of the most vulnerable areas in the world under the impacts of global warming and changes in precipitation ***,a shallow and polymictic freshwater lake located in northeastern Algeria(36°50′N,08°23′E),has recently experienced a significant proliferation of harmful cyanobacteria resulting in the generation of *** carried out this study in order to understand the succession patterns of dominant cyanobacteria and cyanotoxin production and the factors driving this in Oubeira lake.A total of 26 cyanobacterial genera were identified,and among them Microcystis and Planktothrix accounted for more than 60%of the overall cell *** summer/fall period was dominated by Microcystis,Planktothrix,and in lesser extend by Cylindrospermum,*** the fall/winter transition,Dolichospermum,Pseudanabaena,and Aphanizomenon were the dominant ***,the bloom-forming cyanobacteria showed significant differences between months but not between *** microcystins(MC-lR)was detected in all collected samples(0.62-and 19.14-μg MC-lR equivalent/l),but appeared in high concentrations throughout the period of dominance of Microcystis and *** was more sensitive to nutrients than to *** was more dependent on temperature than on nutrients,which explains their coexistence during summer-fall ***,both genera are positively correlated with MC-lR and would probably be the main producers of ***,Dolichospermum,and Aphanizomenon co-occurred at the end of Planktothrix dominance period(December).Aphanizomenon and Pseudanabaena were correlated negatively with temperature and positively with water *** showed a strong positive correlation with *** lake,could serve as a model of how cyanobacteria blooms may develop in lakes within Mediterranean climates.

Characterization of catechol 1,2-dioxygenase from cell extracts of Sphingomonas xenophaga QYY

Sphingomonas xenophaga QYY, capable of growing significantly on more than ten kinds of aromatic compounds as sole carbon source, was used to study characterization of catechol 1,2-dioxygenase (C12O) in cell extracts. Characterization of the crude C12O showed that the maximum activity was obtained at 40-70℃ and pH 7.8-8.8. Metal ions had different influences on the activity of crude C12O. It was suggested that strain QYY possessed an inducible and ferric-dependent C12O. Kinetic studies showed that the value of Vmax and Km was 0.25 μmol catechol/l/mg protein/min and 52.85 μmol/l, respectively. In addition, the partial purification of C12O was achieved by a HiTrap Q Sepharose column chromatography.

There has been an increasing number of reported cases of acute hepatitis of unknown origin in previously healthy children since first reported on March 31,*** clinical syndrome is identified by jaundice and markedly elevated liver enzymes with increased aspartate transaminase and/or alanine aminotransa-minase(greater than 500 IU/l).We conducted an inclusive literature review with respect to acute hepatitis outbreaks in children using the search terms acute hepatitis,outbreak,children,severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),and *** to the cumulative data presented in four main studies,the median age is 4 years,with a male predominance(1.3:1).Jaundice was the most common clinical manifestation(69%),followed by vomiting(63%),anorexia(52.9%),diarrhea(47.2%),abdominal pain(39%),pyrexia(33.3%),pale stool(30%),and dark urine(30%).Coryza and lethargy were reported in 16.6%,while pruritus was reported in 2%of *** liver failure was observed in 25%of *** exact mechanism of this acute hepatitis outbreak is still not entirely *** and SARS-CoV-2 were detected in a significant number of *** with adenovirus and SARS-CoV-2 could be a possible underlying ***,other possible infections and mechanisms must be considered in the pathogenesis of this *** hepatitis of unknown origin in children has been a serious problem since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic but has not yet been sufficiently *** questions remain regarding the underlying mechanisms leading to acute liver failure in children,and it is likely that extensive future research is needed.

Assessing the Suitability of Various Physiological Traits to Screen Wheat Genotypes for Salt Tolerance

Success of improving the salt tolerance of genotypes requires effective and reliable screening traits in breeding programs. The objective was to assess the suitability of various physiological traits to screen wheat genotypes for salt tolerance. Thirteen wheat genotypes from Egypt, Germany, Australia and India were grown in soil with two salinity levels （control and 150 mmol/l NaCI） in a greenhouse. The physiological traits （ion contents in leaves and stems, i.e. Na^＋, Cl^-, K^＋, Ca^2＋）, the ratios of K^＋/Na^＋ and Ca^＋/Na^＋ in the leaves and stems, net photosynthesis rate, stomatal conductance, transpiration rate, chlorophyll content （SPAD value）, and leaf water relations, were measured at different growth stages. The physiological traits except for Na^＋ and Cl^- in stems and the leaf transpiration rate at 150 mmol/l NaCI showed a significant genotypic variation, indicating that the traits that have a significant genotypic variation may be possibly used as screening criteria. According to the analysis of linear regression of the scores of the physiological traits against those of grain yield, however, the physiological traits of Ca^2＋ and Ca2^＋/Na^＋ at 45 d and final harvest with the greatest genotypic variation were ranked at the top. From a practical and economic point of view, SPAD value should be considered to be used as screening criteria and/or there is a need to develop a quick and practical approach to determine Ca^2＋ in plant tissues.

Study of Aerosol Direct and Indirect Effects and Auto-conversion Processes over the West African Monsoon Region Using a Regional Climate Model

This study assesses the direct and indirect effects of natural and anthropogenic aerosols （e.g., black carbon and sulfate） over West and Central Africa during the West African monsoon （WAM） period （June-July-August）. We investigate the impacts of aerosols on the amount of cloudiness, the influences on the precipitation efficiency of clouds, and the associated radiative forcing （direct and indirect）. Our study includes the implementation of three new formulations of auto-conversion parameterization [namely, the Beheng （BH）, Tripoli and Cotton （TC） and liu and Daum （R6） schemes] in RegCM4.4.1, besides the default model＇s auto-conversion scheme （Kessler）. Among the new schemes, BH reduces the precipitation wet bias by more than 50% over West Africa and achieves a bias reduction of around 25% over Central Africa. Results from detailed sensitivity experiments suggest a significant path forward in terms of addressing the long-standing issue of the characteristic wet bias in RegCM. In terms of aerosol-induced radiative forcing, the impact of the various schemes is found to vary considerably （ranging from -5 to -25 W m-2）.
