A facile method was employed to in situ prepare hierarchical mesoporous Fe3O4@C nanofoams through pyrolysis of a post-treated MIL-53(Fe)*** carbon network-encapsulated ultrasmall and uniform Fe3O4 octahedrons can be obtained by controlling the pyrolysis *** unique artificial shows the excellent lithium storage performance.A reversible discharge capacity of 861.9 mAh·g-1 is observed at 0.1 A·g-1after 300 *** at a high current density of 1 A·g-1,the reversible discharge capacity can still reach 605.2 mAh·g-1 after 500 *** rate capability is also observed,as the specific discharge capacities are833.6,729.9,666.8,643.6 and 635.6 mAh·g-1 at current density of 0.2,0.5,0.8,1.0 and 1.2 A·g-1,*** attractive electrochemical performance of Fe3 O4@C nanofoams should be attributed to the hierarchical foamlike structure,which can effectively relieve the volume change during the lithiation/delithiation process and facilitate fast lithium-ion and electron transport.

Background:Due to uncertainties encompassing the transmission dynamics of COVID-19,mathematical models informing the trajectory of disease are being proposed throughout the *** pandemic is also characterized by surge in hospitalizations which has overwhelmed even the most resilient health ***,it is imperative to assess health system preparedness in tandem with need projections for comprehensive ***:We attempted this study to forecast the need for hospital resources for one year period and correspondingly assessed capacity and tipping points of Indian health system to absorb surges in need due to ***:We employed age-structured deterministic SEIR model and modified it to allow for testing and isolation capacity to forecast the need under varying *** for documented cases were made for varying degree of containment and mitigation ***,data on health resources was collated from various government ***,we computed daily turnover of each of these resources which was then adjusted for proportion of cases requiring mild,severe and critical care to arrive at maximum number of COVID-19 cases manageable by health care system of ***:Our results revealed pervasive deficits in the capacity of public health system to absorb surge in need during peak of ***,model suggests that continuing strict lockdown measures in India after mid-May 2020 would have been ineffective in suppressing total infections *** testing to 1,500,000 tests per day during projected peak(mid-September)under social-distancing measures and current test to positive rate of 9.7%would lead to more documented cases(60,000,000 to 90,000,000)culminating to surge in demand for hospital resources.A minimum allocation of 13x,70x and 37x times more beds for mild cases,ICU beds and mechanical ventilators respectively would be required to commensurate with need under that ***

Ocular surface evaluation in eyes with chronic glaucoma on long term topical antiglaucoma therapy

AIM： To evaluate ocular surface changes and its correlation with the central corneal subbasal nerve fibre layer in chronic glaucoma patients. METHODS： A prospective comparative study of ocular surface evaluation was performed in 50 eyes of 25 patients using two or more antiglaucoma medications for at least 6too and 50 eyes of 25 normal subjects without any ocular problems as controls. The study parameters evaluated included visual acuity, intraocular pressure, ocular surface evaluation parameters [fluorescein break-up time （FTBUT）, Schirmer＇s I test, ocular surface staining scores and ocular surface disease index score （OSDI）], central corneal sensation （Cochet Bonnett aesthesiometer）, central subbasal nerve fiber layer density （SBNFLD） by confocal microscopy. RESULTS： The mean values in the glaucoma cases and control groups respectively were as follows： OSDI score （35.89±16.07/6.02±3.84; P=-0.001）, Schirmer＇s I test score （7.632.64 mm/12.86±1.93 mm; P=-0.001）, FTBUT （9.442.76s/11.8±1.88s; P=0.001）, corneal （5.7±2.33/ 1.1±0.58; P=0.001） and conjunctival staining score （5.061.94/0.84±0.46; P=0.001）, corneal sensitivity （4.68±0.44/5.07±0.37; P=0.076）, mean subbasal nerve fiber number （3.58±0.99/5.40±1.70; P=0.001）, SBNFL length （1101.44±287.56 pm/1963.70±562.56 pro; P=0.001） and density （6883.941798.03 pm/mm/12 273.153516.04 pm/mm2; P=O.O01）. Dry eye severity of level 2 and 3 was seen in 66% of glaucoma group. Corneal （/=0.86） and conjunctival staining （R2=0.71） and OSDI score （R=0.67） showed statistically significant negative correlation with central corneal SBNFLD while FTBUT （R==0.84）, corneal sensitivity （/=0.52） showed positive correlation to central corneal SBNFLD in the long term topical antiglaucoma medication group. CONCLUSION： Ocular surface changes and antiglaucoma therapy induced dry eye is found to be associated with decreased SBNFLD in eyes on long term topical antiglaucoma medications.

Insights on the structural characteristics of NDM-1: The journey so far

New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM-1) has created a medical storm ever since it was first reported;as it is active on virtually all clinically used β-lactam antibiotics. NDM-1 rampancy worldwide is now considered a nightmare scenario, particularly due to its rapid dissemination. An underlying theme in the majority of recent studies is structural characterization as knowledge of the three-dimensional structure of NDM-1 shall help find connections between its structure and function. Moreover, structural details are even critical in order to reveal the resistance mecha- nism to β-lactam antibiotics. In this perspective, we review structural characteristics of NDM-1 that have been delineated since its first report. We anticipate that these structure-function connections made by its characterization shall further serve as future guidelines for elucidating pathways towards de novo design of functional inhibitors.

Lithocarpinols A(1) and B(2), a pair of tenellone diastereoisomers with novel fused skeleton were isolated from the deep-sea derived fungus Phomopsis lithocarpus FS508. Their structures were elucidated by comprehensive spectroscopic analyses, X-ray diffraction and quantum molecular calculation. Their plausible biogenetic pathway featured an intriguing carbonyl-ene cyclization. Lithocarpinol A exhibited moderate inhibitory effect against HepG-2 and A549 tumor cell lines with IC_(50) values of 9.4 μmol/L and10.9 μmol/L,respectively.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the potential wound healing activity of Tecomaria capensis leaves extract (TCLE) using different models in rats. (a) Excision wound model, (b) Incision wound model and (c) Dead space wound model. TCLE (100, 300, 1 000 and 2 000 mg·kg-1) was given to rats to observe acute toxicity. No toxicity was found in animals till 14 days. TCLE 5% and 10% ointment were applied topically in excision wound model and incision wound model. TCLE 200 and 400 mg·kg-1 were given orally in dead space wound model. It improved healing in excision wound model, increased breaking strength of tissue in incision wound model, and increased granuloma breaking strength and hydroxyproline content in dead space wound model. These results showed that TCLE presents significant wound healing activity.
