This paper presents a seismic topology optimization study of steel braced frames with shape memory alloy(SMA)*** SMA-braced frames(SMA-bFs)with either Fe-based SMA or NiTi braces are determined in a performance-based seismic design *** topology optimization is performed on 5-and 10-story SMA-bFs considering the placement,length,and cross-sectional area of SMA bracing ***,strength,and performance-based design constraints are considered in the *** seismic response and collapse safety of topologically optimal SMA-bFs are assessed according to the FEMA P695 methodology.A comparative study on the optimal SMA-bFs is also presented in terms of total relative cost,collapse capacity,and peak and residual story *** results demonstrate that Fe-based SMA-bFs exhibit higher collapse capacity and more uniform distribution of lateral displacement over the frame height while being more cost-effective than NiTi braced *** addition to a lower unit price compared to NiTi,Fe-based SMAs reduce SMA material *** frames with Fe-based SMA braces,the SMA usage is reduced by up to 80%.The results highlight the need for using SMAs with larger recoverable strains.

In this study, we investigate the photoluminescence （PL） properties of γ and θ-alumina nanoparticles synthesized by the chemical wet method followed by annealing. The obtained experimental results indicate the presence of some favorable near ultraviolet （NUV）-orange luminescent centers for usage in various luminescence applications, such as oxygen vacancies （F, F＋, F2＋, and F2 centers）, OH related defects, cation interstitial centers, and some new luminescence bands attributed to trapped-hole centers or donor-acceptor centers. The energy states of each defect are discussed in detail. The defects mentioned could alter the electronic structure by producing some energy states in the band gap that result in the optical absorption in the middle ultraviolet （MUV） region. Spectra show that photoionazation of F and F2 centers plays a crucial role in providing either free electrons for the conduction band, or the photoconversions of aggregated oxygen va- cancies into each other, or mobile electrons for electrons-holes recombination process by the Shockley-Read-Hall （SRH） mechanism.

From 1540 inelastic interactions of 3. 7A GeV 160 projectile with emulsion nuclei, we select samples of 87 and 61 events carefully due to interactions of neutron （n） and singly charged particles （Z = 1）, respectively. New results concerning the topology of such events are investigated. The average multiplicities of secondary relativistic particles that appear as shower tracks for n and Z = 1 stay more or less constant when compared with analogous data on p-Em at similar energy. The multiplicity distributions and the average values of the various secondary charged particles are studied and compared with the corresponding predictions by the cascade evaporation model. The results assume that the n or Z = 1 from 16O collide peripherally with an emulsion target and are considered as an expansion to the N-N collisions.

Particle swarm optimization(PSO) and invasive weed optimization(IWO) algorithms are used for extracting the modeling parameters of materials useful for optics and photonics research community. These two bio-inspired algorithms are used here for the first time in this particular field to the best of our knowledge. The algorithms are used for modeling graphene oxide and the performances of the two are compared. Two objective functions are used for different boundary values. Root mean square(RMS) deviation is determined and compared.

The thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity of undoped and Al-doped （1–10 at.%） ZnO nanoparticles prepared using the solvent thermal method are determined by measuring both thermal diffusivity and thermal effusivity of a pressed powder compact of the prepared nanoparticles by using the laser-induced photoacoustic technique. The impact of Al doping versus the microstructure of the samples on such thermal parameters has been investigated. The results reveal an obvious enhancement in the specific heat capacity when decreasing the particle size, while the effect of Al doping on the specific heat capacity is minor. The measured thermal conductivities are about one order of magnitude smaller than that of the bulk ZnO due to several nested reducing heat transfer mechanisms. The results also show that Al doping significantly influences the thermal resistance. Using a simple thermal impedance model, the added thermal resistance due to Al dopant has been estimated.

In this paper, we obtain approximate analytical solutions of the Dirac equation for the shifted Hulthén potential within the framework of spin and pseudospin symmetry limits for arbitrary spin–orbit quantum number κ using the supersymmetry quantum mechanics. The energy eigenvalues and the corresponding Dirac wave functions are obtained in closed forms.

DNA markers enabled to determine the chromosomal locations of the two Rf genes(Rf3 and Rf4) in the wild-abortive cytoplasmic male sterility(WA-CMS) system. Four simple sequence repeats(SSRs) RM171, RM258, RM315 and RM443 were used to detect the allelic status with respect to the fertility restoration genes(Rf3 and Rf4) in 300 rice cultivars or breeding lines. The results revealed that out of 300 lines, 90 lines screened had Rf3, 65 lines had Rf4, and 45 lines had Rf3 and Rf4 alleles. Furthermore, 45 lines selected using SSR markers were mated with a CMS line(IR58025A) to analyze their restoring ability. Offspring of all the test lines except HHZ8-SAL9DT1-Y1, HHZ5-SAL9-Y3-1 and IDSA77 exhibited higher pollen and spikelet fertility(> 80%), thus confirming they bear the Rf alleles. The hybrid offspring of ARH12-6-1-1-b-3-1, IR32307-10-3-2-1 and Sahel 329 had the highest pollen fertility(97.39%, 98.30% and 97.10%, respectively) and spikelet fertility(95.10%, 97.07% and 96.10%, respectively).

In the nonparametric data envelopment analysis literature,scale elasticity is evaluated in two alternative ways:using either the technical efficiency model or the cost efficiency *** evaluation becomes problematic in several situations,for example(a)when input proportions change in the long run,(b)when inputs are heterogeneous,and(c)when firms face ex-ante price uncertainty in making their production *** address these situations,a scale elasticity evaluation was performed using a value-based cost efficiency ***,this alternative value-based scale elasticity evaluation is sensitive to the uncertainty and variability underlying input and output ***,in this study,we introduce a stochastic cost-efficiency model based on chance-constrained programming to develop a value-based measure of the scale elasticity of firms facing data *** illustrative empirical application to the Indian banking industry comprising 71 banks for eight years(1998–2005)was made to compare inferences about their efficiency and scale *** key findings are as follows:First,both the deterministic model and our proposed stochastic model yield distinctly different results concerning the efficiency and scale elasticity scores at various tolerance levels of chance ***,both models yield the same results at a tolerance level of 0.5,implying that the deterministic model is a special case of the stochastic model in that it reveals the same efficiency and returns to scale characterizations of ***,the stochastic model generates higher efficiency scores for inefficient banks than its deterministic ***,public banks exhibit higher efficiency than private and foreign ***,public and old private banks mostly exhibit either decreasing or constant returns to scale,whereas foreign and new private banks experience either increasing or decreasing returns to *** the application of our proposed stochastic mode

Objective:To evaluate the antipiroplasmic activities of methanolic extract of Olea europaea(MOE)and acetonic extract of Acacia laeta(AAL)against babesia and Theileria parasites in vitro and evaluate the chemotherapeutic effects of these extracts against babesia(b.)microti in ***:Fluorescence assay using SYbR Green 1 nucleic acid stain was used to detect inhibitory effects of the two extracts as well as the combination effects of the two extracts with diminazene aceturate and atovaquone on four babesia species and Theileria equi in vitro while for in vivo experiments,8-weekold female bALb/c mice were injected intraperitoneally with 1× 107 ***-iRbCs and treated orally at a dose of 150 mg/kg of both ***:The half maximal inhibitory concentration(IC50)values of AAL against ***,***,***,***,and Theileria equi were lower than those of MOE *** assay on Madin-Darby bovine kidney,mouse embryonic fibroblast(NIH/3T3),and human foreskin fibroblast cell lines showed that MOE and AAL affected only the viability of Madin-Darby bovine kidney cell line with half maximal effective concentrations(EC50)of(794.7±41.9)and(873.9±17.5)μg/mL,*** oral treatments of MOE and AAL at 150 mg/kg inhibited the growth of *** in mice by 80.4% and 64.4%,*** MOE and diminazene aceturate combination showed a higher chemotherapeutic effect than that of ***:MOE and AAL have the potential to be an alternative remedy for treating ***,the combination therapy of MOE + DA was more potent against *** infection in mice than their monotherapies.
