Isolation and characterization of marine-derived actinomycetes with cytotoxic activity from the Red sea coast

Objective: To isolate and evaluate the cytotoxic activity of different actinomycetes species isolated from the Red sea coast in sharm el-sheikh, ***: Forty actinomycetes strains were isolated from different sediments and seawater samples collected from the Red sea coast in Egypt. Actinomycetes were recognized by morphological and microscopic examinations. Cell viability and cytotoxicity induced by the crude extracts on breast cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231 were assessed using methylene blue assay. The strains with promising cytotoxic activity were identified by sequencing and amplifying the 16 s r RNA genes. The antibacterial activities of the crude extracts were performed using Kirby–Bauer disc diffusion ***: The results indicated that five ethyl acetate extracts exhibited cytotoxicity towards breast cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231. The highest cytotoxic activity was found for the ethyl acetate extracts of EGY2 and EGY39. The isolate EGY3 was identified as a new streptomyces species, while the actinomycete EGY22 was found to be a member of the genus Nocardiopsis sp. The crude extract of the isolate EGY8 showed slightly high antimicrobial activity against different test ***: The results of the present study reveal that marine sediments of the Red sea are a potent source of novel species of actinomycetes. The isolates may be useful in discovery of novel bioactive compounds and an important step in the development of microbial natural product research.

Lemierre’s syndrome is a rare and severe sepsis, capable of rapidly compromising the vital prognosis in the absence of early intervention, characterized by an oropharyngeal infection complicated by septic thrombosis of the internal jugular vein and the formation of septic emboli primarily localized at the pulmonary level. We report the case of a 14-year-old boy, with no notable pathological history, who had presented for 15 days with unilateral orbital swelling which then became bilateral, all evolving in a context of fever.

Carotid Body Tumour: The second Case series from Baghdad, Iraq

Background: Carotid body tumour (CBT) is a rare neoplasm, yet it is the commonest head and neck paraganglioma. In Iraq, relevant literature is sparse. Herein, we present our second case series. Methodology: Patients with CBTs that were operated upon in the Department of Thoracic and Vascular surgery, Baghdad Medical City from 2010 to 2014 were enrolled. History and examination were followed by a workup of duplex ultrasonography, CT scan, magnetic resonance imaging, CT or conventional carotid angiography. surgical exploration via a standard anterolateral cervical incision and subadventitial dissection was used to resect the tumours with preservation of carotid arteries. Intra-luminal carotid shunts and vein grafts were prepared to be used if necessary. Results: There were 5 males and 2 females aging 17 - 46 with a mean of 32.9 ± 9.8 year. All patients had slowly growing painless pulsatile swelling below mandiblular angle for long durations (1 - 25 years) and a positive Fontaine’s sign. All tumours were benign, unilateral (right n = 4, left n = 3) and ranging in size from 3 × 3 cm to 6.4 × 3.2 cm. Beside Us neck exam, carotid angiography was done in 5 patients. According to shamblin classification, 4 were class II, 2 class I and 1 class III. All tumours were successfully resected with preservation of ICA. However, the ECA was safely ligated twice due to severe involvement. Tongue deviation occurred once (14.3%) but no patient died and none had stroke or recurrence. Conclusions: Our results of surgery for CBT compare very well with the international standards.

人们对太阳能消除和防止气候变化的巨大兴趣、光伏系统总发电率的下降以及许多有利的情况使光伏系统的市场利用率最大化,并增加了全球能源供应。分布式发电系统的主要部件是一个以并网方式连接的智能逆变器,它直接连接电网和可再生能源。本文致力于在分布式发电和可再生能源的有功、无功调节三相系统中开发并网逆变器。由于逆变器具有各种优点,所以要设计和仿真的是电压源逆变器。本文提出应用规划滤波器将电网中引入的谐波数量按规定降到可接受的水平,同时引入逆变器功率输出的实际功率和无功分量的控制方法,以帮助解决现有系统的不稳定问题和有关电能质量的关注。本文旨在讨论系统的设计步骤、性能等几个特点。在MATLAB/simulink平台上进行仿真验证,为论文工作提供依据。我们的目标是结合V.s.I.设计L.C.L.,以同步参考系原理为基础的电流控制方案,并使用PI控制器,以解决电能质量问题,并在电流注入电网前抑制谐波。所设计的系统旨在对功率水平的变化作出快速反应,而不会对现有系统产生任何重大影响,也不会断开连接,从而满足在并网操作模式下完成给定任务的要求。

simulation of Dual-Band MWCNT Ink-Based spiral Antenna: A Comparative study

In this paper, we compare a dual-band, square spiral microstrip patch antenna constructed from Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNT) ink for wearable application simulated by Computer simulation Technology Microwave studio (CsT MWs) by our work simulated by Advanced Design system (ADs) electromagnetic simulator using the same material characterization. The reflection coefficient is –12 dB at 1.2276 GHz for MWCNT and –13 dB at 1.25 GHz for the copper simulated by CsT MWs and reflection coefficient is –12.235 dB at 1.234 GHz for MWCNT and –18.36 dB at 1.243 GHz for the copper simulated by ADs and the reflection coefficient is –27dB at 2.47 GHz for MWCNT and –13 dB at 2.53 GHz for the copper simulated by CsT MWs and the reflection coefficient is –26.08 dB at 2.48 GHz for MWCNT and –17.031 dB at 2.47 GHz for the copper simulated by ADs. We show the meandering of the surface current on the radiating in spiral patch. The antenna gain is found to be –12.5 dBi at 1.22 GHz for MWCNT and is found –12.05 dBi at 1.25 GHz at CsT MWs and the antenna gain is found to be –11.85 dBi at 1.235 GHz for MWCNT and is found –12.25 dBi at 1.243 GHz at ADs and the antenna gain is found to be –4.25 dBi at 2.47 GHz for MWCNT and is found –4.01 dBi at 2.53 GHz at CsT MWs and the antenna gain is found to be –4.23 dBi at 2.47 GHz for MWCNT and is found –4.88 dBi at 2.45 GHz at ADs. We show a close agreement in the results obtained by the two simulation software's CsT MWs and ADs. The results are given for both MWCNT and Copper characterizations.

Giant Left Atrial Myxoma in an Elderly Man: Case Report

Left atrial myxomas (LAM), the most common primary tumours of the heart are unusual or rare in the elderly. Moreover, elderly patients often present with non-specific symptoms that are frequently overlooked in the absence of a supporting cardiac history which makes an early diagnosis challenging. Herein, we reported large LAM in 70-year-old Iraqi Kurdish male who was presented with minimal obstructive symptoms and the diagnosis was not suspected clinically but discovered by trans-thoracic echocardiography (TTE) followed by successful surgical excision. Although atrial myxomas are benign, they have potential serious complications which mandate prompt therapy. Due to low morbidity and mortality besides its excellent outcome even in the elderly, surgery is the preferred choice of treatment for LAMs.

Evaluation of Geological Hazards for Landuse Planning in Nabq Protectorate, southeastern sinai Using GIs Techniques

Nabq protectorate is one of wonderful natural places in Egypt. It is characterized by diversity of bio-lives such as mangrove forests, coral colonies, wild life plants and migratory birds. Ongoing growth of tourism industries at sharm El sheikh northward into the Nabq protectorate causes severe hazards on its natural resources. The aim of the present study is to assess the present geo-environmental hazards in the Nabq protectorate. Assessment includes the analysis of satellite images, topographical, geological and other ancillary geological data using GIs technology. GIs data analyses indicate that the area is under threat from some of geo-hazards. Rough topography and mass wasting with high probability of flash flooding threaten different constructions in this area. The mobilization of coastal sand dunes, wave action and tidal currents are natural impacts on Nabq ecosystems, where moved dunes leave clay soils that are removed in some places by tropical storms increasing sea water turbidity that threaten the corals and other living organisms in the tidal flat region. The seismic activity hazard in the study area is usually active on lineaments extending parallel to the trend of the Gulf of Aqaba-Dead sea transform fault where the Nabq protectorate occupies its southern segment. Unwise planning activities destroy the natural environmental resources in Nabq area by construction of new resorts on mangrove forests, coral colonies and raised beaches. Hazard assessment identifies land suitability and land use maps that are clearly exhibit models of traditional dams and buffer strips on coastal zone and highways as well as around the Bedouin communities which are worked on tourism and fishing. These maps are urgent in need of an assessment and rehabilitation program to mitigate geo-hazard.

Recent Techniques in Management of Lumbosacral Region Tumours: A Prospective Comparative study

Background: The lumbosacral plexus consists of the ventral rami from the L2 to s3 nerve roots, with some additions from the L1 and s4 nerve roots as well. The standard treatment for spinal cord compression is urgent surgically decompressive laminectomy over the affected level with resection as much as possible of the exposed tumor to relieve the cord compression. We aim to correlate the impact of preoperative clinical picture, duration of symptoms, and the pathological nature of the lumbo-sacral spine tumors on the outcome of comparative study different modalities of management. Patients and Methods: During the period between 2015 and 2017, thirty cases were studied and surgically managed in Al-Azhar University Hospital, Damietta. Cases were selected for surgery if they were diagnosed as having a symptomatizing lumbosacral lesion. Results: Thirty patients were included in the current study;the commonest lesion in this study was ependymoma eight patients (27%), astrocytoma six patients (20%), and meningioma five patients (17%). Nerve sheath tumor comprised five cases (17%) with the hemangioblastomas three cases (10%), epidermoid one case (3%), and ependymoma of the filum terminale two cases (6%). The mean age of the included patients was 38.96 ± 15.42. The mean duration of lesions was 13.66 ± 10.93. They were 15 male patients (50%), and 15 female patients (50%), with male: female ratio 1:1. The mean duration of symptoms ranged for 1:60 months. The most common presenting manifestations were sensory followed by motor and sphinctric disturbance. Complications occurred in 8 patients (23%), and the most common was postoperative CsF leak. 19 out of 30 cases were surgically totally resected (63%), while 11 cases (37%) were grossly totally resected. Conclusions: Ependymoma and meningioma have more favorable outcome compared to other spinal tumors. Accurate and rapid diagnosis prior to surgery also associated with good outcome.

近几十年期间,在种群和个体受干扰后,对作为早期指示剂的生物标记物的研究受到越来越多的关注。我们用对水生生态系统污染敏感的生物标记物双壳类软体动物(文蛤)来评估两种有机磷杀虫剂(甲基毒死蜱、草甘膦)的影响。文蛤是水生生态系统污染的一种敏感的指示物种。在不同时间段测定文蛤中不同组织的非酶的(谷胱苷肽)和酶的(过氧化氢酶)抗氧化剂,作为文蛤中生物标记物的反应。在实验室条件下,测定了脂质过氧化作用、蛋白羰基含量、总蛋白含量、总脂质含量以及胆碱酯酶的活性。对不同的生物标记与杀虫剂的生物体内积累的相互关系进行了研究。甲基毒死蜱在文蛤组织中具有最大的诱导氧化胁迫的潜能,导致脂质过氧化反应增加并抑制抗氧化剂。而且,鳃是对该反应最敏感的器官。文蛤是一种极好的甲基毒死蜱的积聚者,因为暴露60天后,可以测定到其组织中浓度为824.0 mg/kg w.w的甲基毒死蜱。随着在草甘膦中暴露时间的增加,与背景水平相比,组织中草甘膦的浓度增加大约8×103mg/kg w.w。可以得出这样的结论:在一种生物中测定几种生物标记物是有用的。在双壳类中,蛋白质的羰基诱导可用于双壳类中化学污染物诱导的氧化胁迫的生物指示剂。抗氧化剂的防御成分是敏感的参数,是评估污染的水生生态系统的有用的生物标记物。辅以蛤组织的化学分析,生物标记参数能够提供一种有力的监测工具。

The Relation between Apolipoprotein E4 Genotype and Vascular Dementia

Most studies investigating genetics of dementia have focused on Alzheimer’s disease, but little is known about the genetics of vascular dementia (VD). The aim of this study was to identify the association between Apolipoprotein E4 (Apo E4) genotype and VD in cerebrally infarcted patients. The study was conducted on 100 patients with cerebral infarction: 50 had VD (cases) and 50 didn’t have dementia (controls). Diagnosis of VD was based on Mini-Mental state Examination, Cambridge Cognitive Examination (CAMCOG), the Diagnostic and statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 4th edition criteria for the diagnosis of VD (DsM-IV), Hachinski Ischemic score, and computed tomography of the brain (CT brain). Apo E4 allele was assessed through DNA genotyping. The study showed that hypertension (p = 0.027, OR = 4.71), diabetes mellitus (p = 0.003, OR = 6.05) and Apo E4 allele (p = 0.017, OR = 13.39) were the independent risk factors of VD among studied participants. The study concluded that cerebrally infarcted patients with Apo E4 genotype are at high risk of developing VD.
