Curcuma angustifolia ameliorates carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatotoxicity in HepG2 cells and swiss albino rats

Objective:To determine the antioxidant and hepatoprotective potential of methanol extract of rhizome of Curcuma angustifolia(MECA)against carbon tetrachloride(CCl4)-induced hepatic damage in vitro and in ***:DPPH,ABTs and reducing power assays were performed to estimate the antioxidant effect of *** vitro cytotoxicity of MECA against HepG2 cells was evaluated,whereas serum biochemical parameters and levels of antioxidative enzymes were measured in vivo and in ***,histopathological studies were estimated in order to investigate the hepatoprotective efficacy of ***,GC-Ms analysis of the extract was performed to identify the chemical ***:MECA exhibited strong antioxidant activity and attenuated CCl4-induced decrease in the viability of HepG2 ***,MECA significantly restored the ALT,AsT,ALP,TP and albumin level in comparison with the CCl4 *** pre-treatment with MECA,effects of sOD,CAT and GsH were increased as well as lipid peroxidation amount decreased on CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity in in vitro and in vivo ***,histopathological observation confirmed that MECA reduced liver injury induced by CCl4 in ***-Ms analysis confirmed the presence of bioactive constituents such as α-tocopherol(12.27%),phytol(7.61%),squalene(3.71%),β-sitosterol(2.19%),eugenol(2.59%),curcumenol(1.20%),β-elemene(1.00%)and eucalyptol(0.89%).Conclusions:MECA contains antioxidant and hepatoprotective constituents such asα-tocopherol,phytol,squalene and eugenol and exerts hepatoprotective effect both in vitro and in vivo.

Effect of Frey's procedure on islet cell function in patients with chronic calcific pancreatitis

Background: Frey’s procedure involves both drainage and resection of the pancreas in subjects with chronic calcific pancreatitis(CCP). The procedure may affect the pancreatic endocrine function after surgery. The present study was to evaluate the effect of Frey’s procedure on both beta and alpha cell function in CCP ***: Thirty CCP patients who underwent Frey’s procedure were included. According to the glycemic status, patients were divided into the diabetes mellitus(DM), prediabetes, and normal glucose tolerance(NGT) groups. Islet cell function was assessed before and 3 months after ***: At baseline, there was a significant difference in beta cell function among the three groups [NGT group 1.71(1.64–2.07) vs prediabetes group1.50(0.83–1.61) vs DM group 0.33(0.12–0.55), P sulin resistance was not different among them. Post glucose hyperglucagonemia representing alphacell dysfunction during oral glucose tolerance test was present in all of them, but showed no significant difference [NGT group 0.15(0.06–0.31) vs prediabetes group 0.32(0.05–0.70) vs DM group 0.07(0.02–0.18), P = 0.20]. Frey’s procedure did not change beta cell function and insulin resistance. However, alphacell dysfunction deteriorated after surgery [0.10(0.03–0.27) vs 0.33(0.09–0.68), P = 0.004].Conclusions: Although Frey’s procedure does not affect the beta cell function and insulin resistance in CCP patients, the alpha-cell dysfunction deteriorates after surgery.

Voltage-controlled reverse filament growth boosts resistive switching memory

Nonvolatile memory devices based on filamentary resistance switching （Ks） are among the frontrunners to fuel future devices and sensors of the internet of things （IoT） era. The capability of many two distinctive resistive states in response to an external electrical stimulus has been demonstrated. Through years of selection, cells based on the drift of metal ions, namely conductive-bridge memory devices, have shown a wide range of applications with nanosecond switching speeds, nanometer scalability, high-density, and low power-consumption. However, for low （sub-10-~A） current operation, a critical challenge is still represented by programming variability and by the stability of the conductive filament over time. Here, by introducing the concept of reverse filament growth （RFG）, we managed to control the structural reconfiguration of the conductive filament inside a memory cell with significant enhancements of each of the aforementioned properties. A first-in-class Cu-based switching device is demonstrated, with a dedicated stack that enabled us to systematically trigger RFG, thus tuning the device＇s properties. Along with nanosecond switching speeds, we achieved an endurance of up to 106 cycles with a 102 read window, with outstanding disturb immunity and optimal stability of the filament over time. Furthermore, by tuning the filament＇s shape, an excellent control of multi-level bit operations was achieved. Thus, this device offers high flexibility in memory applications.

studies on Interrelations among sO2, NO2and PM10Concentrations and Their Predictions in Ambient Air in Kolkata

In this paper we have first of all studied the interrelations among the concentrations of sO2, NO2 and PM10 and then predicted their future level of concentrations in the ambient air of Kolkata. The data collected from West Bengal Pollution Control Board website have been used to construct second degree, third degree and four degree polynomial equations using MATLAB software. since a curve in a small interval can be approximated by a line segment in that small interval, we have observed that better result can be achieved if we replace the curves piece meal wise in small intervals by line segments during January-April, May-August and september-December months. The multiple regression equations among the aforesaid three parameters have been established to predict the value of each parameter in terms of the remaining two. A further improvement in terms of reducing the number of dependent variables has been made using the results of correlation coefficients. Finally, we have predicted the value of each parameter in terms of only one dependent variable.

Role of CYP2E1 gene polymorphisms association with hepatitis risk in Northeast India

AIM:To investigate hepatitis virus, genetic and environmental factors, and their interactions in predisposing patients to liver diseases in Northeast India. METHODs:A total of 104 jaundice patients and 124 community controls were included. serological analysis was performed by routine enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and nucleic acid testing for hepatitis viruses was done by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), followed by PCR direct sequencing for viral genotyping. Cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) polymorphism was studied by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Nitrite and volatile nitrosamines in indigenous foods consumed routinely by the Northeast Indian ethnic population were estimated by Griess’s reagent and GC-Ms, ***: Hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection was predominantly prevalent (36.5%) in our cohort, followed by hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis E virus (HEV) andhepatitis C virus. HBV genotype D and HEV genotype 1 were the most dominant. CYP2E1 c1/c2 genotype frequency was comparatively higher in alcoholic (Ps, and was associated with significantly higher hepatitis risk (P=0.0.007,OR=6.489). Mutant C allele of Cyp2E1 DraⅠ frequency was comparatively higher in HAV (P=0.006), alcoholic (P =0.003) and cryptogenic (P=0.014) cases, and was associated with overall hepatitis risk (P=0.026, OR=5.083). Indigenous foods, Gundruk, Kharoli, betel leaf and nuts were found to have the highest nitrite content. CONCLUsION: Apart from viral factors, CYP2E1 polymorphism might be associated with increased risk of liver diseases in Northeast India. Indigenous foods that contain nitrite and nitrosamine might be an associated risk factor.

In this mini-review,we summarize recent findings relating to the prion-like propagation ofα-synuclein(α-syn)and the development of novel therapeutic strategies to target synucleinopathy in Parkinson’s disease(PD).We link the Braak’s staging hypothesis of PD with the recent evidence from in-vivo and in-vitro studies for the prion-like cell-to-cell propagation ofα-syn(via exocytosis and endocytosis).The classical accumulation of aggregatedα-syn in PD may result from an increased production or a failure in the mechanisms of clearance ofα-*** discuss novel agents,currently in clinical trial for PD including the ones that impact the aggregation ofα-syn and others that interfere withα-syn endocytosis as a means to target the progression of the disease.

Mimosine functionalized gold nanoparticles (Mimo-AuNPs) suppress β-amyloid aggregation and neuronal toxicity

Evidence suggests that increased level/aggregation of beta-amyloid(Aβ)peptides initiate neurodegeneration and subsequent development of Alzheimer’s disease(AD).At present,there is no effective treatment for *** this study,we reported the effects of gold nanoparticles surface-functionalized with a plant-based amino acid mimosine(Mimo-AuNPs),which is found to cross the blood-brain barrier,on the Aβfibrillization process and *** T kinetic assays,fluorescence imaging and electron microscopy data showed that Mimo-AuNPs were able to suppress the spontaneous and seed-induced A_(1-42) *** studies,molecular docking and biochemical analyses further revealed that Mimo-AuNPs stabilize A_(1-42) to remain in its monomeric state by interacting with the hydrophobic domain of A_(1-42)(i.e.,Lys16 to Ala21)there by preventing a conformational shift towards theβ-sheet ***,Mimo-AuNPs were found to trigger the disassembly of matured A_(1-42) fibers and increased neuronal viability by reducing phosphorylation of tau protein and the production of ***,these results reveal that the surface-functionalization of gold nanoparticles with mimosine can attenuate Aβfibrillization and neuronal ***,we propose Mimo-AuNPs may be used as a potential treatment strategy towards AD-related pathologies.

Resonances for positron–helium and positron–lithium systems in kappa-distribution plasma

s-wave resonances of positron–helium and positron–lithium systems in kappa-distribution plasmas are investigated using Hylleraas-type wave functions in the framework of the stabilization method. A model potential approach is used to represent the interactions between the outer electron, the positron and the core. The resonance parameters(position and width) of positron–helium and positron–lithium systems below the Ps(2s) threshold are reported as a function of screening parameter and spectral index of plasma.

Background:Conserving migratory birds is challenging due to their reliance on multiple distant sites at different stages of their annual life *** concept of“flyway”,which refers to all areas covered by the breeding,nonbreeding,and migrating of birds,provides a framework for international cooperation for *** the same flyway,however,the migratory activities of the same species can differ substantially between seasons and *** the seasonal and population differences in migration is helpful for understanding migration ecology and for identifying conservation ***:Using satellite‑tracking we tracked the migration of Whimbrels(Numenius phaeopus variegatus)from nonbreeding sites at Moreton Bay(MB)and Roebuck Bay(RB)in Australia in the East Asian-Australasian *** tests were used to analyze the strength of migration connectivity between the nonbreeding and breeding sites of MB and RB ***’s t test was used to compare the migration activities between the two populations and between northward and southward ***:During northward migration,migration distance and duration were longer for the MB population than for the RB *** distance and duration of the first leg flight during northward migration were longer for the MB population than for the RB population,suggesting that MB individuals deposited more fuel before departing from nonbreeding sites to support their longer nonstop *** RB population exhibited weaker migration connectivity(breeding sites dispersing over a range of 60 longitudes)than the MB population(breeding sites concentrating in a range of 5 longitudes in Far Eastern Russia).Compared with MB population,RB population was more dependent on the stopover sites in the Yellow sea and the coastal regions in China,where tidal habitat has suffered dramatic ***,RB population increased while MB population decreased over the past decades,suggesting that loss of tidal habit

Finally,a numerical example has been provided for the evaluation and validation of these models and algorithm.
