Most probable number （MPN） and colony-forming unit （CFU） estimates of fecal indicator bacteria （FIB） concentration are common measures of water quality in aquatic environments. Thus, FIB intensively monitored in Yeongsan Watershed in an attempt to compare two different methods and to develop a statistical model to convert from CFU to MPN estimates or vice versa. As a result, the significant difference was found in the MPN and CFU estimates. The enumerated Escherichia coli concentrations in MPN are greater than those in CFU, except for the measurement in winter. Especially in fall, E. coli concentrations in MPN are one order of magnitude greater than that in CFU. Contrarily, enterococci bacteria in MPN are lower than those in CFU. However, in general, a strongly positive relationship are found between MPN and CFU estimates. Therefore, the statistical models were developed, and showed the reasonable converting FIB concentrations from CFU estimates to MPN estimates. We expect this study will provide preliminary information towards future research on whether different analysis methods may result in different water quality standard violation frequencies for the same water sample.

Molecular hydrogen recently attracted lots of attention in biomedical community because of its abilities to mod-ulate signal transduction,protein phosphorylation,and gene expression that enable its anti-inflammatory,anti-allergy,and anti-apoptotic ***,controllable and local delivery of hydrogen molecules to tissues still remains ***,we propose a new method of delivering molecular hydrogen directly to human skin cells by designing a hydrogen-generating patch that releases hydrogen in surrounding environment as a product of chemical reaction of aluminum and carbon hydroxide in presence of *** show that in the pres-ence of molecular hydrogen the cells viability,expression of collagen,and migration efficiency of cells increase,thus suggesting that hydrogen can be used to promote better and faster healing of skin issues such as wounds and bruises.

The tumor microenvironment consists of diverse,complex etiological *** matrix component of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC)plays an important role not only in physical properties such as tissue rigidity but also in cancer progression and therapeutic *** significant efforts have been made to model desmoplastic PDAC,existing models could not fully recapitulate the etiology to mimic and understand the progression of ***,two major components in desmoplastic pancreatic matrices,hyaluronic acid-and gelatin-based hydrogels,are engineered to provide matrices for tumor spheroids composed of PDAC and cancer-associated fibroblasts(CAF).shape analysis profiles reveals that incorporating CAF contributes to a more compact tissue *** expression levels of markers associated with proliferation,epithelial to mesenchymal transition,mechanotransduction,and progression are observed for cancer-CAF spheroids cultured in hyper desmoplastic matrix-mimicking hydrogels,while the trend can be observed when those are cultured in desmoplastic matrix-mimicking hydrogels with the presence of transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1).The proposed multicellular pancreatic tumor model,in combination with proper mechanical properties and TGF-β1 supplement,makes strides in developing advanced pancreatic models for resembling and monitoring the progression of pancreatic tumors,which could be potentially applicable for realizing personalized medicine and drug testing applications.

Background:Although aseptic meningitis associated with echovirus type 30 has emerged as a global public health concern,no data have been reported on children's immune status against echovirus type *** current study aimed to investigate the seropositivity among Korean children for antibodies against echovirus ***:Two hundred and fifty residual serum samples were collected at ***'s *** were categorized by age into four groups:group 1 (3 months-2 years),group 2 (3-6 years),group 3 (7-10 years) and group 4 (11-15 years).Neutralizing antibodies against echovirus 30 were ***:seroprotective neutralizing antibodies against echovirus 30 were detected in 129 (49%) *** rates were 23%,48%,55% and 73% in groups 1-4,*** antibody titers,1:256-1:512 was the highest neutralizing antibody titer range in group 2,while 1:1024-1:2048 in group 3 and *** the seropositive individuals in group 3 and 4,6% and 12% had neutralizing antibody titers of 1:2048,***:The seropositivity rate increased significantly with age..The distribution of neutralizing antibody titers varied by age group,and higher ranges of neutralizing antibody titers were observed in higher age *** findings suggest high susceptibility to echovirus 30 infection in children younger than 2 years *** 30 infection in childhood may have contributed to increased neutralizing antibody titers with age.

Prognostic implication of isolated tumor cells and micrometastases in regional lymph nodes of gastric cancer

AIM： To determine the prognostic significance of isolated tumor cells （ITCs） and lymph node micrometastases in gastric cancer. METHODs： Hematoxylin and eosin-stained slides of lymph node dissections of 632 consecutive gastric cancers were reviewed. Cytokeratin immunostaining was performed in 280 node-negative cases and 5 cases indefinite for lymph node metastases. Lymph node metastases were divided into ITCs, micrometastases, or macrometastases, according to the sizes of tumor deposits in largest dimension. ITCs were further classified into four groups according to metastasis pattern. REsULTs： Lymph node metastases were identified by immunostaining in 58 of 280 node-negative cases （20.7%） and were not significantly associated with patient survival （P = 0.3460）. After cytokeratin immunostaining, 196 cases were classified as pN1, which consisted of 20 cases with micrometastases detected by immunostaining （pNlmi（i＋））, 34 cases with only micrometastases （pNlmi）, and 142 cases with pN1 with one or more macrometastases （pN1）. Cases with pNlmi and pNlmi（i＋） had a significantly better prognosis than the cases with pN1 （P = 0.0037）. ITCs were found in 38 of these 58 cases, and could be divided into four groups： 12 cases with only a s.ngle cell pattern, 7 cases with multiple individual cells, 5 cases with s.ngle small cluster, and 14 cases with multiple small clusters. Among these four groups, cases with ITCs of multiple individual cell pattern showed the worst survival （median survival： 28 mo, P〈0.0001）.CONCLUsION： Both size and pattern of lymph node metastases can give prognostic information on the survival of gastric cancer patients.

BACKGROUND： Metastasis is the primary cause of mortality in cancer patients. Therefore, elucidating the genetics and epigenetics of metastatic tumor cells and the mechanisms by which tumor cells acquire metastatic properties constitute significant challenges in cancer research. OBJECTIVE： To summarize the current understandings of the specific genotype and phenotype of the metastatic tumor cells. METHOD and REsULT： In-depth genetic analysis of tumor cells, especially with advances in the next-generation sequencing, have revealed insights of the genotypes of metastatic tumor cells. Also, studies have shown that the cancer stem cell （CsC） and epithelial to mesenchymal transition （EMT） phenotypes are associated with the metastatic cascade. CONCLUsION： In this review, we will discuss recent advances in the field by focus.ng on the genomic instability and phenotypic dynamics of metastatic tumor cells.

A large-area high-power radio-frequency（RF） driven ion source was developed for positive and negative neutral beam injectors at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute（KAERI）. The RF ion source consists of a driver region, including a helical antenna and a discharge chamber, and an expansion region. RF power can be transferred at up to 10 kW with a fixed frequency of 2 MHz through an optimized RF matching system. An actively water-cooled Faraday shield is located inside the driver region of the ion source for the stable and steady-state operations of high-power RF discharge. Plasma ignition of the ion source is initiated by the injection of argongas without a starter-filament heating, and the argon-gas is then slowly exchanged by the injection of hydrogen-gas to produce pure hydrogen plasmas. The uniformities of the plasma parameter,such as a plasma density and an electron temperature, are measured at the lowest area of the driver region us.ng two RF-compensated electrostatic probes along the direction of the shortand long-dimensions of the driver region. The plasma parameters will be compared with those obtained at the lowest area of the expansion bucket to analyze the plasma expansion properties from the driver region to the expansion region.

This paper proposes an efficient object localization method based on a vanishing line. The proposed method can be much improved in time efficiency since it requires scanning only vanishing line area. It requires the time complexity of O(n) while the existing sliding window method requires the time complexity O(nsup>2sup>) for detecting all objects in the entire image. In addition, the range of detection area can be also remarkably reduced when compared with the sliding window method. As a result, the total range and times for searching in the proposed method can be significantly reduced by considering together the distance and position of the object. The experiment on the proposed method is performed with the virtual road data set known as sYNTHIA, and the competitive results are obtained.

The present study aimed to quantify the content of trans-cinnamic acid (CA) in Cinnamomum japonicum, C. loureirii, and C. camphora and the commercial application of CA us.ng high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). A C18 column was used, with water/methanol as the mobile phase gradient. The highest content of CA was observed in the bark of C. loureirii (16.97 mg/g) and cinnamon powder A (47.60 mg/g). The lowest content of CA was observed in leaf and heartwood of C. japonicum (0.10 and 0.10 mg/g, respectively) and cinnamon powder C (22.87 mg/g). This result could be utilized as a guideline for the analysis of the commercial applications of Cinnamomum.
