Vitamin B12 deficiency and gastric histopathology in older patients

AIM: To compare upper gastric endoscopic and histopathologic findings in older adults in the presence and absence of B12 ***: A prospective analysis of upper gastric endoscopic and gastric histopathologic findings from 30 newly identified B12-deficient patients (11 males,19 females) and 16 controls with normal B12 status (6males, 10 females) was performed. For all subjects, the indication for upper endoscopy and gastric biopsy were unrelated to B12 status. A single pathologist, blinded to B12 status, processed and interpreted the biopsy samples. Endoscopic and histopathologic findings were correlated with age, gender, hematocrit (Hct), MCV and B12 ***: The B12-deficient group had significantly lower mean serum B12 levels compared to the controls (P＜0.00005) while their mean Hct, MCV and serum albumin levels were similar. Iron deficiency (ferritinbased) was present in 21% of B12-deficient patients and intrinsic factor antibodies were present in29% (5/17) of B12-deficient patients. The endoscopic findings revealed significantly different rates of gastritis and atrophy between the B12-deficient and control groups (P= 0.017).B12-deficient patients had significantly less superficial gastritis (62% vs 94%) and significantly more atrophic gastritis (28% vs 0%) as compared to the controls (P= 0.039). Intestinal metaplasia was similar in both groups. Helicobacter pyloriinfection rates were similar in the B12-deficient patients and controls (40% vs31%).CONCLUsION: significantly different endoscopic findings and types of gastritis could often be observed in the presence and absence of B12 deficiency. Atrophy,based on endoscopy, and atrophic gastritis, based on histopathology, suggest the presence of B12 *** histopathology is not influenced by the age,gender, Hct or MCV of the patients.

supernumerary marker chromosome 15 in a male with azoospermia and open bite deformity

supernumerary marker chromosome 15 （ssMC[15]） is the most frequent marker chromosome, and it is generally regarded as unimportant if it does not contain the Prader-Willi/Angelman syndrome critical region （PWACR）. The clinical importance of the larger markers in association with the critical region is mentioned in almost all reports related to marker chromosome 15, and smaller markers are solely associated with minor dysmorphic features, azoospermia and recurrent miscarriages. However, these small ssMC（15）s without the PWACR may also determine a specific phenotype. A dysmorphic examination of an azoospermic patient in a genetics clinic was performed and was followed by a peripheral blood lymphocyte chromosomal analysis according to standard cytogenetic methods. Nucleolar region （NOR） banding, C-banding, fluorescence in situ hybridization and a molecular investigation of Y-microdeletions were also performed. The clinical evaluation identified dysmorphic features accompanied with azoospermia and severe ‘Angle Class Ⅱ, Division 1 Open Bite Deformity＇. The molecular cytogenetic study revealed the small ssMC（15）. In addition, a Y-microdeletion analysis showed that the azoospermia was not the result of a deletion. Although the presented case might represent a coincidental example of supernumerary marker 15 and mandibular anomaly association, the condition may also define a specific phenotype that may be more than azoospermia. This condition may be characterized by infertility, malar hypoplasia, mandibular anomaly, keloid formation and minor dysmorphic features.

structural and spectroscopic diagnosis of ZnO/snO_2 nanocomposite influenced by Eu^(3+)

Europium doped ZnO/snO2 nanocomposite phosphors were synthesized via room temperature co-precipitation method. In this work structural changes, optical properties and the associated photoluminescence response were investigated for different compositions of ZnO and snO2 activated with Eu3＋ ions. The prepared samples were systematically characterized by means of X-ray diffraction （XRD）, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, field emission scanning electron microscopy for obtaining the structural information about the prepared materials. Diffuse reflectance （DR） UV-Vis spectrometer and photoluminescence （PL） spectroscopy technique were employed for studying the optical properties of prepared materials. XRD results confirmed the presence of both phases, hexagonal ZnO as well as tetragonal snO2 simultaneously and further using Debye scherrer＇s and Hall-Williamson relations, crystallite size were estimated and it was found to be in the range of 8-14 nm. The FTIR studies revealed the presence of different stretching and bending modes of Zn-O and sn-O with an additional stretching and bending vibration of absorbed water （O-H） molecules. FEsEM images suggested that the particle size lied in the range of 50 to 70 nm, which were almost spherical in shapes. A long range multi colour emission from blue to red region was observed for the 320 nm excitation wavelength. The observed emission involved sharp emission due to 5D0→7F1 transition that corresponded to the magnetic dipole transition. The study showed that the Eu3＋ doped nanocomposite was more suitable material than singly Eu3＋ doped ZnO and Eu3＋ doped snO2 with enhanced opto-eleetronic and luminescence properties and potential applications in display devices.

In their research article in Nature in March 2023,Fabio Zani and colleagues reported that high concentrations of the zero-calorie artificial sweetener sucralose affected the proliferation and differentiation of T cells toward interferon-γ-producing subsets,with no effect observed for B cells and myeloid cells.1 The publication has raised high hopes in the lay press on a widely available cure for patients suffering from autoimmune diseases.

Microbial population and enzyme activities are the significant indicators of soil *** microbial dynamics characterize microbial population and enzyme *** present study explores the development of efficient predictive modeling systems for the estimation of specific soil microbial dynamics,like rock phosphate solubilization,bacterial population,and ACC-deaminase *** specifically,optimized subtractive clustering(sC)and Wang and Mendel's(WM)fuzzy inference systems(FIs)have been implemented with the objective to achieve the best estimation accuracy of microbial *** measurements were performed using controlled pot experiment using minimal salt media with rock phosphate as sole carbon source inoculated with phosphate solubilizing microorganism in order to estimate rock phosphate solubilization potential of selected *** experimental parameters,including temperature,pH,and incubation period have been used as inputs sC-FIs and *** better performance of the sC-FIs has been observed as compared to the WM-FIs in the estimation of phosphate solubilization and bacterial population with the maximum value of the coefficient of determination(0.9988)2 R=in the estimation of previous microbial dynamics.

Affects of Marshall Plan on Turkish Economy

Marshall Plan is an important declaration that dominated world economy and politics after the World War II. It is also evidence that policy of the United states of America to make for its internal politics between two world wars was abandoned and it was intended to dominate world politics. Likewise, it can be considered as the smoking gun for power loss of continental Europe, including England, against the soviet Union. When Turkey had to find its way into Western alliance in this new period divided into two poles and called as ＂Cold War＂, it intended to enter into economic acquis formed by Marshall Plan. Turkey, in the process to prevent the spread of communism against the soviet Union that started mainly by Truman Doctrine, was of the first priority status by the UsA just like Greece. It can be said that Turkish economy made an important progress to move into liberal system from its statist structure through Marshall Plan. Accession process to European Union integration mandated by the UsA was started by Republican People＇s Party （CHP） and it was also continued in Democratic Party period with liberal program that took over the power as a result of elections in Turkey. Although Marshall Plan created economic added value in Turkey at the beginning, it could not create a sustainable welfare process as consultants coming from the UsA had insisted on unilateral economic policies and Turkey was directed towards military spending due to being seen mainly as a buffer state against the soviet Union and Middle East. It can be also said that arrangements arising from double standards in the application compared to European countries caused economic instabilities in the long run.

Zircon isotopic ages from magnetite quartzites of the Jianping metamorphic complex, western Liaoning Province

Using the zircon Pb evaporation method and high precise ion microprobe analyses, zircon isotopic ages in supracrustal magnetite quartzites from Jianping metamorphic complex have been obtained. The results show that the deposition of the supracrustal rocks occurred around 2 552-2 520 Ma and the peak of granulite facies metamorphism reached at about 2 487 Ma; about (1 806±16) Ma, i.e. Mid-Proterozoic, the other possible metamorphic event with relatively low intensity happened in the study area. it is speculated that a likely tectonic setting where the Jianping metamorphic complex formed is an active Continental margin that is involved in Continental collision and crustal thickening shortly after its formation.
