MicroRNA-329-3p inhibits the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and proliferation of osteosarcoma cells by targeting transcription factor 7-like 1

Euler Product Expressions of Absolute Tensor Products of Dirichlet L-Functions

In this paper, we calculate the absolute tensor square of the Dirichlet L-functions and show that it is expressed as an Euler product over pairs of primes. The method is to construct an equation to link primes to a series which has the factors of the absolute tensor product of the Dirichlet L-functions. This study is a generalization of Akatsuka’s theorem on the Riemann zeta function, and gives a proof of Kurokawa’s prediction proposed in 1992.

Comparison of incidence of acute kidney injury after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy with that after open retropubic and extraperitoneal laparoscopic radical prostatectomies in patients with prostate cancer

Background: We retrospectively evaluated the postoperative renal function in patients who had undergone radical prostatectomy to compare the incidences of postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) among the patients who had undergone robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP), retropubic radical prostatectomy (RRP), and extraperitoneal laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (exLRP). Materials and methods: Patients with prostate cancer who had undergone radical prostatectomy at our institution between 2008 and 2014 were included. Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy was performed using an intraperitoneal approach in a 25-degree Trendelenburg position, whereas other procedures were performed with the patient in the supine position. We evaluated the serum creatinine levels and estimated glomerular filtration rates immediately after surgery and on postoperative day 1. We evaluated the incidence of AKI after prostatectomy using the Acute Kidney Injury Network criteria of the Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes guidelines. Results: A total of 150 consecutive patients were included, with each of the 3 groups (RARP, RRP, and exLRP) comprising 50 patients. Postoperative AKI was observed in 15 (30.0%), 1 (2.0%), and 3 (6.0%) patients in the RARP, RRP, and exLRP groups, respectively. stage 1 AKI was observed in all the patients except one. The incidence of AKI in RARP group was significantly higher than that in the other groups (p serum creatinine level was significantly elevated immediately after the surgery; however, it returned to baseline on postoperative day 1. surgical procedures were the only independent factor associated with AKI incidence. Conclusions: This study suggest that compared with RRP and exLRP, RARP is associated with a higher incidence of postoperative AKI, although most patients recover rapidly. Intra-abdominal pneumoperitoneum may contribute to AKI onset.

Flow Rate Measurement of Gravity Infusion set and Functional Evaluation of Drop Counter: A Pilot study

Developing a novel drop counter by introducing the Internet of Things concept has been vigorously conducted in recent years. Understanding the newly introduced drop counter’s flow rate control accuracy and flow rate count feature is essential for improving safety in infusion management. This study aimed to verify if the new drop counters could secure accurate flow rate and drip count by conducting actual flow rate measurements using gravimetry and functional evaluation. A drop counter was attached to each drip chamber of the infusion set, and an IV drip was conducted at the 100 ml/h flow rate. The weight of discharged physiological saline was measured to plot trumpet curves. Next, three different types of drop counters were evaluated to determine if they maintained drip count accuracy according to the changes in their position angles. The flow rate errors in all conditions indicated trumpet-like curves, exhibiting an overall error range within ±10% in all observation windows. Although every drop counter successfully detected and measured dripping, it was challenging in some counters to detect dripping when the drip chamber was tilted. In comparing adult and pediatric IV sets, the adult IV set was found to be less likely to detect dripping in the angled position. No significant differences in results were confirmed between high and low flow rates, suggesting that the drop count function would not be affected by the flow rate in the ranges of typical infusion practices. Doppler sensors have a wide range of measurements and high sensitivity;the dripping was detected successfully even when the drip chamber was tilted, probably due to the advantages of these sensors. In contrast, miscounts occurred in those equipped with infrared sensors, which could not detect light intensity changes in tilted positions. Understanding the tendencies in flow rate errors in infusion can be valuable information for infusion management.

Which characteristics are associated with changes in medication status for lower urinary tract symptoms among patients with prostate cancer receiving external beam radiotherapy?

BackgroundWe clarified the predictive factors for changes in the status of medications for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTs) 2 years after local radiotherapy for nonmetastatic prostate cancer. Materials and methodsWe retrospectively included patients who underwent local external radiotherapy for nonmetastatic prostate cancer in 8 institutions between April 2001 and March 2016. Patients were divided into the medication and no-medication group based on the use of drugs for LUTs before radiotherapy. We defined improvement of LUTs as when the patient did not require medication for LUTs at 24 months after radiotherapy in the medication group and as deterioration when medication was required in the no-medication group. Logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate predictive factors for changes in medication status. ResultsAltogether, 505 patients were divided into a no-medication group (n = 352) and a medication group (n = 153). The number of patients with deterioration and improvement in LUTs was 49 (14%) and 36 (23%), respectively. In the multivariate analysis, the predictive variables for deterioration were the International Prostate symptom score (>= 8; odds ratio [OR], 2.21; p = 0.014) and the biopsy Gleason score (s those for improvement were age (s old; OR, 5.81; p = 0.002), the quality of life score (sitive biopsy core rate (>= 50%; OR, 2.530; p = 0.027) in the medication group. ConclusionsThese predictive factors for changes in the status of medications for LUTs at 2 years after external radiotherapy may help determine the definitive therapy for nonmetastatic prostate cancer.

A Case of Warthin’s Tumor Together with IgG4-Related sialadenitis

Warthin’s tumor is the second most frequent neoplasm next to pleomorphic adenoma in the salivary gland. The tumor contains the epithelial oncocyte cells with the presence of rich-mitochondria and their surrounding abundant lymphocytes. A relatively new disease entity of IgG4-related disease frequently occurs in the salivary gland. However, the coexistence of Warthin’s tumor and IgG4-related disease is scarcely observed. We have recently experienced a rare case of Warthin’s tumor with IgG4-related sialadenitis. A 51-year-old man presented to our hospital, complaining of a mass with right submandibular tenderness and spontaneous pain. A computed tomography scan of the cervical region revealed a suspicion of lymph node proliferative disease, including malignant lymphoma. Elevated serum levels of IL-2R: 1843 U/ml (reference value 122 - 496 U/ml), IgG: 3430 mg/dl (reference value 861 - 1747 mg/dl), and IgG4: 3140 mg/dl (reference value 11 - 121 mg/dl) were observed. Other laboratory data showed within normal ranges. The cervical tumor was diagnosed as Warthin’s tumor by the findings of fine-needle aspiration cytology and biopsy examination. Immunohistochemistry revealed numerous IgG4- and IgG-positive cells with fibrosis surrounding the epithelial component of Warthin’s tumor, suggesting IgG4-rerated sialadenitis. Finally, we diagnosed the cervical tumor as Warthin tumor with IgG4-related sialadenitis. This is the second report describing a case of Warthin’s tumor with possible involvement of IgG4-related sialadenitis.

Grain size refinement of magnesium composite alloys by addition of B_2O_3

The high performance magnesium alloy was investigated by adding B2O3 in magnesium and magnesium alloys. Experiments include adding B2O3 in Mg, Mg-Al and Mg-RE alloys, respectively, studying the effects of B2O3 on the microstructure, were studied measuring the change of grain size and microhardness of the materials, discussing the change of grain size, morphology and distribution. The results show that adding 3% or 6%(mass fraction) B2O3 in Mg can bring twinning in Mg, adding B2O3 in Mg-Al alloys and Mg-RE alloys can refine the alloy grain size. Adding 3%B2O3 in Mg-6Al alloys can refine the average grain size by about 5μm, with the average hardness increased by 13.3% (53.3-60.4 HV0.03); adding 6%B2O3 in Mg-6Al alloys can refine the average grain size by about 13μm, with the average hardness increased by 15.8% (53.3-61.73 HV0.03); adding 3% and 6%B2O3 into Mg-6RE alloys can refine the grain size by about 5 and 9μm, respectively, with the average hardness decreased to HV0.03 64.66 and HV0.03 57.86, respectively from HV0.03 88.57. In the Mg-6Al alloy the content of aluminum is increased, while in the Mg-6RE alloy the content of oxygen is decreased. It can be concluded that it is beneficial to develop Mg-Al-B-O particle reinforce composite alloys, and it is feasible to develop nanometer crystallization of block material by Mg-B-O-RE.

To investigate the causes that led to the formation of cracks in materials, a novel method that only considered the fracture surfaces for determining the fracture toughness parameters of J-integral for plain strain was proposed The principle of the fracture-surface topography analysis （FRAsTA） was used. In FRAsTA, the fracture surfaces were scanned by laser microscope and the elevation data was recorded for analysis. The relationship between J-integral and fracture surface average profile for plain strain was deduced. It was also verified that the J-integral determined by the novel method and by the compliance method matches each other well.
