Oral cancer (OC) is the most common form of head and neck cancer. Despite the high incidence and unfavourable patient outcomes, currently, there are no biomarkers for the early detection of OC. This study aims to discover, develop, and validate a novel saliva-based microRNA signature for early diagnosis and prediction of OC risk in oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMD).The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) miRNA sequencing data and small RNA sequencing data of saliva samples were used to discover differentially expressed miRNAs. identified miRNAs were validated in saliva samples of OC (n=50), OPMD (n=52), and controls(n=60) using quantitative real-time PCR. Eight differentially expressed miRNAs (miR-7-5p, miR-10b-5p, miR-182-5p, miR-215-5p,miR-431-5p, miR-486-3p, miR-3614-5p, and miR-4707-3p) were identified in the discovery phase and were validated. The efficiency of our eight-miRNA signature to discriminate OC and controls was:area under curve (AUC):0.954, sensitivity:86%, specificity:90%,positive predictive value (PPV):87.8%and negative predictive value (NPV):88.5%whereas between OC and OPMD was:AUC:0.911,sensitivity:90%, specificity:82.7%, PPV:74.2%and NPV:89.6%. We have developed a risk probability score to predict the presence or risk of OC in OPMD patients. We established a salivary miRNA signature that can aid in diagnosing and predicting OC,revolutionising the management of patients with OPMD. Together, our results shed new light on the management of OC by salivary miRNAs to the clinical utility of using miRNAs derived from saliva samples.

The induction generator effect(iGE)and the openloop modal proximity(OLMP)are two different reasons why subsynchronous oscillations(ssOs)in a series-compensated power system(sCPs)may *** iGE attributes the growing ssOs to negative resistance,while the OLMP explains the ssO mechanism from the standpoint of modal *** this paper,we investigate the connections between the iGE and the OLMP through equivalent RLC circuit and open-loop modal *** investigation is conducted for two types of seriescompensated power systems where either a synchronous generator or a DFiG is connected at the sending *** investigation reveals the conditions,in which the iGE and the OLMP may jointly cause the growing ssOs,i.e.,both the iGE and the OLMP can explain why the growing ssOs ***,the investigation indicates that the iGE and the OLMP may be totally irrelevant and lead to growing ssOs *** implies that it is possible that in a sCPs,the growing ssOs are only due to the iGE,and the OLMP is non-existent,and vice ***,when the growing ssOs occurs in a sCPs,examination based on both the iGE and the OLMP should be carefully conducted in order to find if the oscillatory instability is due to the iGE,or the OLMP,or both of them.

Background schistosomiasis is highly endemic in sub-saharan Africa and frequently imported to Europe. Male urogenital manifestations are often neglected. We aimed to ascertain the prevalence of genitourinary clinical signs and symptoms among long-term African migrants in a non-endemic European country using a serology *** We carried out a prospective, community-based cross-sectional study of adult male migrants from sub-saharan Africa living in *** serology tests and microscopic urine examinations were carried out, and clinical data were obtained from an electronic medical record search and a structured *** We included 388 adult males, mean age 43.5 years [standard Deviation (sD) = 12.0, range: 18–76]. The median time since migration to the European Union was 17 [interquartile range (iQR): 11–21] years. The most frequent country of origin was senegal (N = 179, 46.1%). Of the 338, 147 (37.6%) tested positive forschistosoma. Parasite eggs were present in the urine of only 1.3%. Nine genitourinary clinical items were significantly associated with positiveschistosoma serology results: pelvic pain (45.2%;OR = 1.57, 95%Ci: 1.0–2.4), pain on ejaculation (14.5%;OR = 1.85, 95%Ci: 1.0–3.5), dyspareunia (12.4%;OR = 2.45, 95%Ci: 1.2–5.2), erectile dysfunction (9.5%;OR = 3.10, 95%Ci: 1.3–7.6), self-reported episodes of infertility (32.1%;OR = 1.69, 95%Ci: 1.0–2.8), haematuria (55.2%;OR = 2.37, 95%Ci: 1.5–3.6), dysuria (52.1%;OR = 2.01, 95%Ci: 1.3–3.1), undiagnosed syndromic sTis (5.4%), and orchitis (20.7%;OR = 1.81, 95%Ci: 1.0–3.1). Exploring Variability in sea Level at a Tide Gauge station through Control Charts

Monitoring temporal changes in sea level is important in assessing coastal *** level anomalies at a tide gauge station,if kinematically conceived,include systematic variations such as trend,acceleration,periodic oscillations,and random *** them,the non-stationary nature of the random sea level variations of known or unknown origin at coastal regions has been long recognized by the sea level *** study proposes the analyses of subgroups of random residual statistics of a rigorously formulated kinematic model solution of tide gauge variations using X-bar and s control *** approach is demonstrated using Key West,Florida tide gauge *** mean and standard errors of 5-year-long subgroups of the residuals revealed that sea level changes at this location have been progressively intensifying from 1913 to the *** oscillations in sea level at this locality may be attributed partly to the thermal expansion of seawater with increasing temperatures causing larger buoyancy-related sea level fluctuations as well as the intensification of atmospheric events including wind patterns and the impact of changes in inverted barometer effects that will alter coastal risk assessments for the future.

The Whale Optimization Algorithm(WOA)is a swarm intelligence metaheuristic inspired by the bubble-net hunting tactic of humpback *** spite of its popularity due to simplicity,ease of implementation,and a limited number of parameters,WOA’s search strategy can adversely affect the convergence and equilibrium between exploration and exploitation in complex *** address this limitation,we propose a new algorithm called Multi-trial Vector-based Whale Optimization Algorithm(MTV-WOA)that incorporates a Balancing strategy-based Trial-vector Producer(Bs_TVP),a Local strategy-based Trial-vector Producer(Ls_TVP),and a Global strategy-based Trial-vector Producer(Gs_TVP)to address real-world optimization problems of varied degrees of ***-WOA has the potential to enhance exploitation and exploration,reduce the probability of being stranded in local optima,and preserve the equilibrium between exploration and *** the purpose of evaluating the proposed algorithm's performance,it is compared to eight metaheuristic algorithms utilizing CEC 2018 test ***,MTV-WOA is compared with well-stablished,recent,and WOA variant *** experimental results demonstrate that MTV-WOA surpasses comparative algorithms in terms of the accuracy of the solutions and convergence ***,we conducted the Friedman test to assess the gained results statistically and observed that MTV-WOA significantly outperforms comparative ***,we solved five engineering design problems to demonstrate the practicality of *** results indicate that the proposed MTV-WOA can efficiently address the complexities of engineering challenges and provide superior solutions that are superior to those of other algorithms.
