Probabilistic Analysis and Design of HCP Nanowires:An Efficient surrogate Based Molecular Dynamics simulation Approach

We investigate the dependency of strain rate,temperature and size on yield strength of hexagonal close packed（HCP） nanowires based on large-scale molecular dynamics（MD） simulation.A variance-based analysis has been proposed to quantify relative sensitivity of the three controlling factors on the yield strength of the *** of the major drawbacks of conventional MD simulation based studies is that the simulations are computationally very intensive and economically *** scale molecular dynamics simulation needs supercomputing access and the larger the number of atoms,the longer it takes time and computational *** this reason it becomes practically impossible to perform a robust and comprehensive analysis that requires multiple simulations such as sensitivity analysis,uncertainty quantification and *** propose a novel surrogate based molecular dynamics（sBMD）simulation approach that enables us to carry out thousands of virtual simulations for different combinations of the controlling factors in a computationally efficient way by performing only few MD *** the sBMD simulation approach an efficient optimum design scheme has been developed to predict optimized size of the nanowire to maximize the yield *** the effect of inevitable uncertainty associated with the controlling factors has been quantified using Monte Carlo *** we have confined our analyses in this article for Magnesium nanowires only,the proposed approach can be extended to other materials for computationally intensive nano-scale investigation involving multiple factors of influence.

Plant studies in the first Himalayan Biosphere Reserve: a review

Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve(NDBR) was declared as the first Himalayan Biosphere Reserve owing to its unique biological and cultural wealth. Its core zones, Nanda Devi National Park and Valley of Flowers National Park, are a UNEsCO World Natural Heritage site. In spite of lying at a high altitude, interplay of factors such as unique geographical location, climate, topography and wide altitudinal variations have endowed NDBR with a rich and diverse flora. Proportionately high percentage of endemic and near endemic plants makes NDBR a very important protected area from conservation point of view. However, its floristic wealth is facing unprecedented threats in the form of climate change and growing anthropogenic pressure. Hence, a need was felt to assess the directionality, quality and sufficiency of past and ongoing research for the conservation of floral and ethnobotanical wealth of NDBR in the absence of any such previous attempt. Based on an extensive review of more than 150 plant studies on NDBR, this communication provides a detailed account of the current state of knowledge and information gaps on flora, vegetation ecology, rare, endangered, threatened(RET) and endemic plants and ethnobotany. Priority research areas and management measures are discussed for the conservation of its unique floral wealth. Incomplete floral inventorization, lack of biodiversity monitoring, meagre studies on lower plant groups, population status of medicinal plants, habitat assessment of threatened taxa and geo-spatial analysis of alpine vegetation were identified as areas of immediate concern.

A weakly magnetized sheath for a collisionless, electronegative plasma comprising positive ions,electrons, and negative ions is investigated numerically using the fluid approach. The electrons are considered to be non-Maxwellian in nature and are described by Tsalli's distribution. such electrons have a substantial effect on the sheath properties. The study also reveals that non-Maxwellian distribution is the most realistic description for negative ions in the presence of an oblique magnetic field. In addition to the negative ion temperature, the sheath potential is also affected by the nonextensive parameters. The present research finds application in the plasma processing and semiconductor industry as well as in space plasmas.

Nanocomposites with auxetic nanotubes

The effect of extreme and negative Poisson’s ratio(auxetic)behavior from non-reconstructed defective(NRD)carbon nanotubes on the mechanical properties of nanocomposites is *** carbon nanotubes(CNTs)produced by electronic or ion irradiation are metastable structures,which however can exist at low temperatures or when surrounded by an external medium(*** nanoropes of matrix in a composite).The defective nanotubes were modeled using an equivalent atomistic-continuum formulation for the mechanical properties of the C-C bond that provides both the effective mechanical properties of the atomic link and the thickness of the bond *** defective CNTs are modeled as truss-type finite elements,with the defective atoms selected using a random Latin hypercube *** mechanical properties(Young’s modulus,shear and bulk modulus,as well as Poisson’s ratios)are obtained using uniaxial tensile loading *** defective nanotubes not only exhibit negative Poisson’s ratio(PR),but also extreme positive PR values based on the percentage of defective atoms,radius and aspect ratio of the ***-shritkman bounds are used to calculate the effective properties of nanocomposites with different matrix combinations and CNT *** on the properties of the defective CNTs,extreme values of bulk and shear modulus for the nanocomposites are recorded.

Distribution,Use Pattern and Prospects for Conservation of Medicinal shrubs in Uttaranchal state,India

The present paper gives an insight into the distribution and use pattern of medicinal shrubs in Uttaranchal state. A total of 222 medicinal and aromatic shrub species have been appended based on secondary information. Euphorbiaceae, Rosaceae, Verbenaceae, and Fabaceae have the highest repre- sentatives of medicinal shrubs. Twenty one families had one species each in medicinal use. Verbenaceae and Euphorbiaceae in the sub-tropical region, Rosaceae in the temperate region, and Ericaceae and Rosaceae in the sub-alpine and alpine regions, respectively, had the highest representatives of medicinal shrubs. The distribution of medicinal shrubs was 42 % in sub-tropical, 29 % in warm temperate, 13 % in cool temperate, 9 % in sub-alpine and 7 % in the alpine region. Of the total species, 70 medicinal shrubs were native to the Himalayas and 22 native to Himalayan region including other Hima- layan countries. The most frequently used plant parts for various ailments were leaves (31 %) and roots (23 %). Most shrubs are being used for the diseases, viz. skin diseases, dysentery, cough, fever, wounds, and rheumatism. The present paper will help in the execution of strategies for promotion and cultivation of medicinal shrubs in Uttaranchal state.

Analysis of the statistical Behaviour of Daily Maximumand Monthly Rainfall Data at New DelhiDuring Monsoon Period

A statistical analysis of monthly mean and daily maximum rainfall data at New Delhi during the mon-soon (June-september) period 1940-1980 is presented. It has been observed that a good correlation exists between the monthly and daily maximum rainfall. A linear regression analysis of the data is found to be sig nificant for all the four months. some key statistical parameters like the mean values of Coefficient of Vari ability (CV), Relative Variability (RV) and Percentage Interannual Variability (PIV) have been studied and found to be at variance. However, their corresponding ratios between mean daily maximum and mean monthly rainfall are significantly lower.

The most suitable intervention for energy rehabilitation of historical buildings has to reach both the goal of the optimization of the energy saving and the preservation of the original characteristics of the *** present work is related to refurbishment and energy rehabilitation of an historical building dating back to 15th *** building complex under study is an ancient residential courtyard building located in Northern Italy near *** strategies have been focused on the building envelope and energy supply systems respecting both the regulatory constraints imposed by preservation of historical buildings and,where possible,the current national legislation about the building energy *** result was achieved only through the identification of best solutions based on mutual compatibility and optimization of the performance of the building envelope and the HVAC *** the design phase,the thermal performance of the building for both winter and summer periods have been evaluated by dynamic computer *** has been shown that adequate interventions focused on the building envelope and HVAC systems reduces the energy consumption in a significant ***,it has been shown through economical analysis that extra-costs for energy retrofit measures paid back quickly during the life span of the *** buildings are characterized by unique and specific characters that could be preserved,also upgrading them to modern *** study demonstrates how it is possible to intervene effectively(and correctly by the historical and architectural point of view)on the energy performance of ancient *** applying innovative techniques and technologies,in fact,it is possible to achieve high energy efficiency levels,without affecting the original architectural appearance and *** methodology presented can be an interesting case study for all those building interventions where energy,cultural and historical issues

The nZEB objectives have raised the standard of building performance and changed the way in which buildings are designed and *** energy dynamic simulation tools are potentially the most suitable way for accurately evaluating and forecasting the thermal performance,they need several data inputs and user’s knowledge that can affect the reliability of the *** is precisely these two aspects that proved to be particularly critical,since the reliability of the ICT calculation tools has been widely proven in recent ***,in order to foster credibility in sustainable architecture,bridging the gap between predicted and measured performance is pivotal to boost the building market towards energy efficiency and provide reliable data to inhabitant,investors and policy *** present research aims to identify and quantify the main factors that affect the energy performance gap through a detailed energy analysis carried out on a case study,which can be considered one of the first nearly zero energy residential complex built in *** on the analysis,the study identifies the main causes of the deviation between the calculated and measured data and demonstrates how it is possible to achieve very reliable models and,therefore,real *** the procedure traces a classic model calibration scheme,actually it consists of a verification of possible downstream errors mainly due to human factors,such as the provision of incorrect technical data or inappropriate *** observations on the technical,management and regulatory gaps that may generate these errors are reported at the end of the study,together with practical suggestions that can provide effective solutions.

Bacterial Diversity in Alpine Lakes: A Review from the Third Pole Region

Microorganisms are unique among all of the living organisms because of their high population size, advanced genetic diversity, short generation time, and quick response to the small change in environmental conditions. Remote alpine lakes of the Third Pole region provide the unique habitat for microorganisms acting as a natural laboratory and offering the information about the ecological roles of microorganisms. Many researchers focused on microbial communities as well as the impact of physicochemical, biological and hydrological parameters in lakes of this region since decades but the comprehensive review focusing on bacterial diversity and the role of environmental parameters still lacks. Here we reviewed bacterial diversity in lakes of the Third Pole region by analyzing 16 s rRNA clone libraries accessed from previous research findings. A total of 5 388 bacterial 16 s rRNA gene sequences were analyzed and classified into different phylogenetic groups. The average relative abundance of dominant taxa includes Betaproteobacteria(19%), Bacteroidetes(18%), Gammaproteobacteria(16%), Actinobacteria(15%), Alphaproteobacteria(14%), Cyanobacteria(7%), and Firmicutes(5%). several adaptational strategies were adopted by these dominant bacterial groups in order to accommodate in the respective habitat. Nevertheless, lake water properties like temperature, pH, salinity, incident UV radiation, turbidity, and nutrients also played role in bacterial diversity.

Global production, processing and utilization of lentil： A review

Lentil is a highly nutritious legume with an ample quantity of carbohydrates and good amount of proteins, minerals, vitamins, phytochemicals and fibres. Although it has been used as staple food since ancient times, its usage has been limited in developed countries, especially due to the lower protein digestibility, presence of anti-nutritional factors, flatulence and poor cooking qualities. Processing of lentils including dehulling and splitting and isolation of major fractions, e.g., proteins and starches are some of the strategies that can be adopted to add value and increase consumption of these legumes. This review paper intends to provide detailed overview of lentil＇s global production, nutritional composition and processing methods of lentil. Methods of isolation/characterization of lentil protein and starch and their subsequent application in foods are also presented.
