Resilient modulus prediction of soft low-plasticity Piedmont residual soil using dynamic cone penetrometer

Dynamic cone penetrometer（DCP） has been used for decades to estimate the shear strength and stiffness properties of the subgrade soils. There are several empirical correlations in the literature to predict the resilient modulus values at only a specific stress state from DCP data, corresponding to the predefined thicknesses of pavement layers（a 50 mm asphalt wearing course, a 100 mm asphalt binder course and a200 mm aggregate base course）. In this study, field-measured DCP data were utilized to estimate the resilient modulus of low-plasticity subgrade Piedmont residual soil. Piedmont residual soils are in-place weathered soils from igneous and metamorphic rocks, as opposed to transported or compacted *** the existing empirical correlations might not be applicable for these soils. An experimental program was conducted incorporating field DCP and laboratory resilient modulus tests on "undisturbed" soil specimens. The DCP tests were carried out at various locations in four test sections to evaluate subgrade stiffness variation laterally and with depth. Laboratory resilient modulus test results were analyzed in the context of the mechanistic-empirical pavement design guide（MEPDG） recommended universal constitutive model. A new approach for predicting the resilient modulus from DCP by estimating MEPDG constitutive model coefficients（k;,k;and k;） was developed through statistical analyses. The new model is capable of not only taking into account the in situ soil condition on the basis of field measurements,but also representing the resilient modulus at any stress state which addresses a limitation with existing empirical DCP models and its applicability for a specific case. Validation of the model is demonstrated by using data that were not used for model development, as well as data reported in the literature.

Guar gum(GG)has drawn more interest from researchers in the last several decades for the controlled delivery of *** aim of the research is to fabricate and evaluate an interpenetrating polymer network(IPN)based nanocarriers system employing chemically modified GG to achieve controlled release of *** present study,we have reported the synthesis of carboxymethyl GG-chitosan IPN nanoparticles for controlled release of metformin *** guar gum(CMGG)was synthesized and employed for developing IPN nanoparticles in combination with chitosan in varying polymeric ratios.A cross-linking agent,sodium tripolyphosphate(Na-TPP)was used for the synthesis of IPN colloidal suspension of nanoparticles which was lyophilized to obtain *** carboxymethylation of GG was confirmed through Fourier transform infra-red spec*** mean particle size was 440.6 nm indicating a polydispersity index of *** drug entrapment efficiency was found to vary between 67.461.64%to 88.232.02%.The differential scanning calorimetry study revealed the presence of amorphous metformin hydrochloride as a homogenous dispersion in nanoparticles(NPs)*** vitro drug release study indicated controlled release ability of developed IPN matrix.A2 formulation(chitosan:CMGG-1:1)exhibited 78.110.27%release after 8 *** evaluation performed in alloxan-treated diabetic rat model exhibited a prolonged hypoglycemic efficacy over 6 h,for A2 formulation treated group,compared to the group receiving only metformin hCl,which demonstrated a reduction in blood glucose levels for up to 4 *** study findings demonstrated the efficacy of the CMGG-chitosan based IPN nanoparticulate system for sustained delivery of therapeutic agents.

An E//B neutral particle analyzer(NPA)has been designed and is under development at Sichuan University and Southwestern Institute of *** main purpose of the E//B NPA is to measure the distribution function of fast ions in the hL-2A/3 *** E//B NPA contains three main units,*** stripping unit,the analyzing unit and the detection unit.A gas stripping chamber was adopted as the stripping *** results of the simulations and beam tests for the stripping chamber are *** electric and magnetic fields provided by a NdFeB permanent magnet and two parallel electric plates were designed and constructed for the analyzing *** calibration of the magnetic and electric fields was performed using a 50 kV electron cyclotron resonance ion source(ECRIS)*** detection unit consists of 32lutetium-yttrium oxyorthosilicate(LYSO)detector modules arranged in two *** response functions ofα,hydrogen ions(h^(+),h_(2)^(+)and h_(3)^(+))andγfor a detector module were measured with^(241)Am,^(137)Cs and^(152)Eu sources together with the 50 kV ECRIS *** overall results indicate that the designed E//B NPA device is capable of measuring the intensity of neutral hydrogen and deuteron atoms with energy higher than 20 keV.

Bioremediation of Textile Azo Dyes Amido Black 10B, Reactive Black 5, Reactive Blue 160 by Lentinus squarrosulus AF5 and Assessment of Toxicity of the Degraded Metabolites

Bioremediation is an eco-compatible and economical approach to counter textile dye menace. The isolated Lentinus squarrosulus AF5 was assessed for decolourization of textile azo dyes, and had shown ~93%, 88% and 70% decolorization of Reactive blue 160 (RB160), Reactive black 5 (RB5) and Amido black 10B (AB10B) respectively. Further analysis using UV-vis, hPLC, and FTIR, 1h NMR had shown the degradation of the dyes. Toxicity analysis of the metabolites was performed using seed germination and plant growth on two agriculturally important plants Guar (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba) and wheat (Triticum aestivum) as well as cytotoxicity analysis using the human keratinocyte cell line (haCaT). The dye mix appeared inhibitory for seed germination (20% - 40%), whereas metabolites were non-inhibitory for germination. Treatment of haCaT cells with of dye mix and metabolites led into 45% and ~100% of cell viability of haCaT cells respectively. Therefore, metabolites following degradation of the dye mix were observed to be non-toxic.

Recharge and vulnerability assessment of groundwater resources in North west India:Insights from isotope-geospatial modelling approach

Recent studies indicate dwindling groundwater quantity and quality of the largest regional aquifer system in North West India,raising concern over freshwater availability to about 182 million population residing in this *** agricultural activities have resulted severe groundwater pollution in this area,demanding a systematic vulnerability assessment for proactive *** vulnerability assessment models encounter drawbacks due to subjectivity,complexity,data-prerequisites,and spatial-temporal *** study incorporates isotopic information into a weighted-overlay framework to overcome the above-mentioned limitations and proposes a novel vulnerability assessment *** isotope methodology provides crucial insights on groundwater recharge mechanisms(18O and 2h)and dynamics(3h)-often ignored in vulnerability *** characterisation of precipitation helped in establishing Local Meteoric Water Line(LMWL)as well as inferring contrasting recharge mechanisms operating in different *** aquifer(depthhowed significant evaporative signature with evaporation loss accounting up to 18.04%based on Rayleigh distillation ***-aquifer connections were apparent from Kernel Density Estimate(KDE)and isotope correlations.A weighted overlay isotope-geospatial model was developed combining 18O,3h,aquifer permeability,and water level *** central and northern parts of study area fall under least(0.29%)and extremely(1.79%)vulnerable zones respectively,while majority of the study area fall under moderate(42.71%)and highly vulnerable zones(55.20%).Model validation was performed using groundwater NO3-concentration,which showed an overall accuracy up to 82%.Monte Carlo Simulation(MCS)was performed for sensitivity analysis and permeability was found to be the most sensitive input parameter,followed by 3h,18O,and water *** the vulnerability map with Land Use Land Cover(LULC)and population density maps

Asymptotic iteration approach to supersymmetric bistable potentials

We examine quasi exactly solvable bistable potentials and their supersymmetric partners within the framework of the asymptotic iteration method （AIM）. It is shown that the AIM produces excellent approximate spectra and that sometimes it is found to be more useful to use the partner potential for computation. We also discuss the direct application of the AIM to the Fokker-Planck equation.

Effects on prey-predator with different functional responses

In this paper, we investigate the effects on prey of two predators which are also related in terms of prey-predator relationship. Different types of functional responses are con- sidered to formulate the mathematical model for predator and generalist predator of our proposed model. harvesting effort for the generalist predator is considered and the density-dependent mortality rate for predator and generalist predator is incorporated in our proposed model. Local stability as well as global stability for the system is dis- cussed. We analyze the different bifurcation parameters to evaluate hopf bifurcation in the neighborhood of interior equilibrium point. Finally, some numerical simulations and graphical figures are provided to verify our analytical results with the help of different sets of parameters.

Colon adenoma features and their impact on risk of future advanced adenomas and colorectal cancer

AIMTo review the evidence on the association between specific colon adenoma features and the risk of future colonic neoplasia [adenomas and colorectal cancer (CRC)]. METhODSWe performed a literature search using the National Library of Medicine through PubMed from 1/1/2003 to 5/30/2015. Specific Medical Subject headings terms (colon, colon polyps, adenomatous polyps, epidemiology, natural history, growth, cancer screening, colonoscopy, CRC) were used in conjunction with subject headings/key words (surveillance, adenoma surveillance, polypectomy surveillance, and serrated adenoma). We defined non-advanced adenomas as 1-2 adenomas each 25% villous histology or high-grade dysplasia. A combined endpoint of advanced neoplasia included advanced adenomas and invasive CRC. RESULTSOur search strategy identified 592 candidate articles of which 8 met inclusion criteria and were relevant for assessment of histology (low grade vs high grade dysplasia, villous features) and adenoma size. Six of these studies met the accepted quality indicator threshold for overall adenoma detection rate > 25% among study patients. We found 254 articles of which 7 met inclusion criteria for the evaluation of multiple adenomas. Lastly, our search revealed 222 candidate articles of which 6 met inclusion criteria for evaluation of serrated polyps. Our review found that villous features, high grade dysplasia, larger adenoma size, and having ≥ 3 adenomas at baseline are associated with an increased risk of future colonic neoplasia in some but not all studies. Serrated polyps in the proximal colon are associated with an increased risk of future colonic neoplasia, comparable to having a baseline advanced adenoma. CONCLUSIONData on adenoma features and risk of future adenomas and CRC are compelling yet modest in absolute effect size. Future research should refine this risk stratification.
