Vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)was discovered by its angiogenic ***,during evolution,it appeared earlier as a neurotrophic factor required for the development of the nervous system in invertebrates lacking a circulatory *** aimed at reviewing recent evidence indicating that VEGF has neuroprotective effects in neurons exposed to a variety of *** particular interest is the link established between VEGF and motoneurons,especially after the design of the VEGFδ/δmutant *** mice are characterized by low levels of VEGF and develop muscle weakness and motoneuron degeneration resembling amyotrophic lateral *** administration of VEGF through several routes to animal models of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis delays motor impairment and motoneuron degeneration and increases life *** are new recent advances in the role of VEGF in the physiology of *** experimental aims use the extraocular(abducens)motoneurons lesioned by axotomy as a model for studying VEGF *** abducens motoneurons exhibit severe alterations in their discharge activity and a loss of synaptic *** exogenous administration of VEGF to axotomized abducens motoneurons,either from the transected nerve or intraventricularly,fully restores the synaptic and discharge properties of abducens motoneurons,despite being *** addition,when an anti-VEGF neutralizing antibody is delivered from the muscle to intact,uninjured abducens motoneurons,these cells display alterations in their discharge pattern and a loss of synaptic boutons that resemble the state of *** these data indicate that VEGF is an essential neurotrophic factor for motoneurons.

Background: The effects of radiation therapy can impact patients’ quality of life, leading to treatment interruptions and therefore sub-optimal outcomes. The main aim was to evaluate the preliminary effects of Ocoxin cream® in the prevention of radiation therapy. methods: Fifty patients were enrolled in an observational, longitudinal, prospective, single-centre clinical trial in the Department of radiation Therapy at the National Institute of Oncology and radiobiology in Havana, Cuba. The radiation Therapy Oncology Group (rTOG) toxicity criteria were used to classify the radiation therapy, and the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) instrument was used to assess quality of life. results: Patients who met the inclusion criteria were enrolled consecutively and were treated with teletherapy using a 60Co source with 1.25 meV energy. 70.0% of the patients were head and neck cancer patients. No grade 3 - 4 radiation therapy was reported, nor were there any interruptions in radiation treatment due to skin toxicity. radiation therapy was observed in only 14.0% of patients, and of these, only two patients developed grade 2 toxicity. The perception of quality of life before vs. after radiation therapy remained within an average range of “no effect” (at the start of radiation therapy) to “small effect” (at the end of radiation therapy). Conclusions: This clinical study is the first report of the use of Ocoxin cream® in cancer patients and demonstrates that it is able to prevent radiation therapy and reduce the severity of toxicity of treatment with ionising radiation.

Effects of Tillage and Crop residue management on maize Yields and Net returns in the Central mexican Highlands Under Drought Conditions

In the subtropical highlands of Central mexico, where the main crop is maize （Zea mays）, the conventional practice （CP） involves tillage, monoculture and residue removal, leading to soil degradation and unsustainable use of natural resources and agricultural inputs. Conservation agriculture （CA） has been proposed as a viable alternative in the region, based on reduction in tillage, retention of adequate levels of crop residues and soil surface cover and use of crop rotation. This study began in 2009 when the highlands of Central mexico suffered from a prolonged drought during vegetative maize growth in July-August, providing an opportunity for the on-farm comparison of CA with CP under severe drought conditions which 21 climate change models projected to become m.re frequent. Under dry conditions, CA resulted in higher yields and net returns per hectare as early as the first and second years after adoption by farm.rs. As an average of 27 plots under farm.rs＇ management in 2009, the maize yields were 26% higher under CA （6.3 t ha-1） than under CP （5.0 t ha-l）. 2010 was close to a normal year in terms of rainfall so yields were higher than in 2009 for both practices; in addition, the yield difference between the practices was reduced to 19% （6.8 t ha-1 for CA vs. 5.7 t ha-1 for CP）. When all the 2009 and 2010 observations were analyzed in a modified stability analysis, CA had an overall positive effect of 3 838 mexican Pesos ha-1 （320 $US ha-1） on net return and 1.3 t ha-1 on yield. After only one to two years of adoption by farm.rs on their fields, CA had higher yields and net returns under dry conditions that were even drier than those predicted by the analyzed 21 climate change models under a climate change scenario, emission scenario A2.

Objective: We describe patients with mCS, the evolution of the Quick Environmental Exposure and Sensitivity Inventory (QEESI) score with a special focus on people whose fillings were removed. methods: We have conducted a retrospective longitudinal cohort study in patients diagnosed with mCS and attended in the outpatient Internal medicine department of the University Hospital of San Juan de Alicante, from January 1, 2008 to January 1, 2021. Sociodemographic, clinical, QEESI and treatment-related variables were collected. We performed descriptive and inferential analyses. mixed linear models were used to analyze the QEESI. Calculations were carried out with an α error of 5%. results: Thirty-three patients were included (72.7% women, mean age 56.2). mCS was mainly triggered by m.rcury (N = 20) and food intolerance (N = 22). The mean interval from symptoms onset was 120 months (SD 81.6). 114 QEESIs were analyzed: 82 (N = 17 without amalgams) and 32 (N = 16 with amalgams). In patients without amalgams, severity scores increased across all subscales except the masking index (vs. with amalgams). mean scores for the group without amalgams (vs. with amalgams) were: chemical intolerance, 62.8 points (vs. 63.4 and 46.7);other intolerances, 52.7 points (vs. 62.8 and 50.3);symptom severity, 63.2 (vs. 76.7 and 63.3);masking index, 3.9 (vs. 3.2 and 2.8);and life impacts, 63.1 (vs. 58.4 and 49.8). Conclusion: The profile of patient with mCS is a middle-aged woman who is a frequent user of healthcare services, presents a long diagnostic delay and has borne a great personal, work and socioeconomic impact. The QEESI is useful for the clinical follow-up of patients, including the optimal treatment response in the case of amalgams. Clinical Significance: People affected by multiple Chemical Sensitivity deserve the attention, understanding and help of health professionals and family members, to face an invisible illness for those who do not suffer from it. Kinetics and mechanism of oxidation for nickel-containing pyrrhotite tailings

X-ray powder diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,energy dispersive spectroscopy,thermogravimetry,differential scanning calorimetry,and mass spectrometry have been used to study the products of nickel-containing pyrrhotite tailings oxidation by oxygen in the *** kinetic triplets of oxidation,namely,activation energy(E_(a)),pre-exponential factor(A),and reaction model(f(α))being a function of the conversion degree(α),were adjusted by regression *** case of a two-stage process representation,the first step proceeds under autocatalysis control and ends atα=*** kinetic triplet in the first step is E_(a)=262.2 kJ/mol,lg A=14.53 s^(−1),and f(α)=(1-α)^(4.11)(1+1.51×10^(-4)α).For the second step,the process is controlled by the two-dimensional diffusion of the reactants in the layer of oxidation *** kinetic triplet in the second step isЕa=215.0 kJ/mol,lg A=10.28 s^(−1),and f(α)=(-ln(1-α))^(-1).The obtained empirical formulae for the rate of pyrrhotite tailings oxidation reliably describe the macro-mechanism of the process and can be used to design automatization systems for roast-ing these materials.

The society in the digital transformation era demands new decision schemes such as e-democracy or based on social *** novel decision schemes require the participation of many experts/decision makers/stakeholders in the decision *** a result,large-scale group decision making(LSGDm)has attracted the attention of many researchers in the last decade and many studies have been conducted in order to face the challenges associated with the ***,this paper aims at reviewing the most relevant studies about LSGDm,identifying the most profitable research trends and analyzing them from a critical point of *** do so,the Web of Science database has been consulted by using different *** these results a total of 241 contributions were found and a selection process regarding language,type of contribution and actual relation with the studied topic was then carried *** 87 contributions finally selected for this review have been analyzed from four points of view that have been highly rem.rked in the topic,such as the preference structure in which decision-makers’opinions are modeled,the group decision rules used to define the decision making process,the techniques applied to verify the quality of these models and their applications to real world problems ***,a critical analysis of the main limitations of the existing proposals is ***,taking into account these limitations,new research lines for LSGDm are proposed and the main challenges are stressed out.

In this work a comparative bioadsorption study between a biocomposite consisting of hydrolysed vineyard pruning waste entrapped in calcium alginate spheres and non entrapped vineyard residue was carried *** have demonstrated that the biocomposite based on lignocellulose-calcium alginate spheres removed 77.3% of dyes,while non entrapped lignocellulose eliminated only removed 27.8% of colour *** experimental data were fitted to several kinetic models（pseudo-first order,pseudo-second order,Chien-Clayton model,intraparticle diffusion model and Bangham model）; being pseudo-second order the kinetic model that better described the adsorption of dyes onto both *** addition,a m.rphological study（roughness and shape） of alginate-vineyard biocomposite was established under extreme conditions,observing significant differences between hydrated and dehydrated alginate-vineyard *** techniques used to carry out this m.rphological study consisted of scanning electron microscopy（SEm）,perfilometry and 3D surface analysis.
