coronavirus disease 2019(cOVID-19),caused by the highly pathogenic severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SArS-coV-2),primarily impacts the respiratory tract and can lead to severe outcomes such as acute respiratory distress syndrome,multiple organ failure,and *** extensive studies on the pathogenicity of SArS-coV-2,its impact on the hepatobiliary system remains *** liver injury is commonly indicated by reduced albumin and elevated bilirubin and transaminase levels,the exact source of this damage is not fully *** mechanisms for injury include direct cytotoxicity,collateral damage from inflammation,drug-induced liver injury,and ischemia/***,evidence often relies on blood tests with liver enzyme *** this comprehensive review,we focused solely on the different histopathological manifestations of liver injury in cOVID-19 patients,drawing from liver biopsies,complete autopsies,and in vitro liver *** present evidence of the direct impact of SArS-coV-2 on the liver,substantiated by in vitro observations of viral entry mechanisms and the actual presence of viral particles in liver samples resulting in a variety of cellular changes,including mitochondrial swelling,endoplasmic reticulum dilatation,and hepatocyte *** ly,we describe the diverse liver pathology observed during cOVID-19 infection,encompassing necrosis,steatosis,cholestasis,and lobular *** also discuss the emergence of long-term complications,notably cOVID-19-related secondary sclerosing *** the histopathological liver changes occurring during cOVID-19 infection is pivotal for improving patient recovery and guiding decision-making.

Shorebird populations are declining worldwide,mainly due to human disturbances and loss of coastal ***,supratidal habitats as saltpans could play a role in buffering human *** have shown to be important as feeding or breeding sites of some shorebird species.A potential conservation strategy to increase shorebird populations in saltpans is to manipulate the cues that birds use to select optimal breeding *** it is hypothesized that shorebirds are attracted to bivalve shells due to the advantages they *** this hypothesis,we supplemented a restored saltpan in 2019 and 2021 with bivalve shells,expecting an increase in the number of breeding birds’ *** than 75% of Kentish Plover(charadrius alexandrinus) and Little Tern(Sternula albifrons) nests were found in patches with shells in both *** best model for both species indicates that the presence of shells is the factor that most correlates with the location of *** probability of choosing one place over another to settle their nest increases in areas with an abundance of shells,double in the case of the Kentish Plover and triple in the case of the Little *** result of this study may constitute a valuable tool for attracting birds to restored saltpans and could contribute to the success of expensive restoration projects where time is usually a constraint.

chitosan Nanoparticles as Biostimulant in Lettuce (lactuca sativa L.) Plants

Biodegradable nanoparticles such as chitosan nanoparticles (cSNPs) are used in sustainable agriculture since theyavoid damage to the environment;cSNPs have positive effects such as the accumulation of bioactive compoundsand increased productivity in plants. This study aimed to investigate the impact of applying cSNPs on lettuce,specifically focusing on enzymatic activity, bioactive compounds, and yield. The trial was conducted using a completelyrandomized design, incorporating cSNPs: 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, and 0.8 mg mL−1. The doses of 0.4 mg mL−1improve yields up to 24.6% increases and 0.1 mg mL−1 of cSNPs increases total phenols by 31.2% and antioxidantcapacity by 34.6%. In addition, when low concentrations of cSNPs (0.05 and 0.1 mg L−1) were applied, anincrease in catalase was determined. The cSNPs represent a good alternative to be used as a biostimulant in sustainableagriculture because they improve the yield and quality of lettuce by increasing the bioactive compounds.

cost-effective multilevel techniques for homogeneous hyperbolic conservation laws are very successful in reducing the computational cost associated to high resolution shock capturing numerical *** they do not involve any special data structure,and do not induce savings in memory requirements,they are easily implemented on existing codes and are recommended for 1D and 2D simulations when intensive testing is *** multilevel technique can also be applied to balance laws,but in this case,numerical errors may be induced by the *** present a series of numerical tests that point out that the use of monotonicity-preserving interpolatory techniques eliminates the numerical errors observed when using the usual 4-point centered lagrange interpolation,and leads to a more robust multilevel code for balance laws,while maintaining the efficiency rates observed forhyperbolic conservation laws.

The Antarctic Paleogene marine fossil record has been the key to reconstructing the evolution of the Weddellian Sea and final dismemberment of Southern *** this context,Eocene marine vertebrates from Seymour(Marambio)Island have provided valuable *** present the first Eocene record of marine reptiles from the southern Atlantic coast of South *** corresponds to several postcranial turtle remains represented by a proximal end of the right humerus,three caudal and one thoracic vertebrae,a fragment of the left pubis,and ten ossicles of the dorsal carapace,coming from the Leticia Formation(late-mid Eocene)at cabo Tiburones,Tierra del Fuego,*** materials show severalfeatures such as the size and general morphology of the humerus and vertebrae,and the presence of relatively small,irregular,smooth,and unkeeled ossicles,which allow us to assign them to dermochelyidae *** are a cosmopolitan group ofcryptodiran turtles,registered from the late cretaceous up to the recent,with some physiological-biological peculiarities(e.g.,endothermy and an exclusive jellyfish-based diet)and characterized by the presence of an osseous carapace formed by *** new finding from the Leticia Formation is an addition to the scarce and extremely fragmentary record of Eocene dermochelyids from the southern seas like those from the la Meseta and Submeseta formations(Antarctica)and the Waihao and Burnside formations(New Zealand).This new information allows us to discuss the presence of these turtles in such high latitudes in the past and its implication in the evolution of the Weddellian fauna.

The BETA application-specific integrated circuit(ASIc)is a fully programmable chip designed to amplify,shape and digitize the signal of up to 64 Silicon photomultiplier(SiPM)channels,with a power consumption of approximately~1 mW/*** to its dual-path gain,the BETA chip is capable of resolving single photoelectrons(phes)with a signal-to-noise ratio(SNr)>5 while simultaneously achieving a dynamic range of~4000 ***,BETA can provide a cost-effective solution for the readout of SiPMs in space missions and other applications with a maximum rate below 10 *** this study,we describe the key characteristics of the BETA ASIc and present an evaluation of the performance of its 16-channel version,which is implemented using 130 nm *** ASIc also contains two discriminators that can provide trigger signals with a time jitter down to 400 ps FWHM for 10 *** linearity error of the charge gain measurement was less than 2%for a dynamic range as large as 15 bits.

Vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)was discovered by its angiogenic ***,during evolution,it appeared earlier as a neurotrophic factor required for the development of the nervous system in invertebrates lacking a circulatory *** aimed at reviewing recent evidence indicating that VEGF has neuroprotective effects in neurons exposed to a variety of *** particular interest is the link established between VEGF and motoneurons,especially after the design of the VEGFδ/δmutant *** mice are characterized by low levels of VEGF and develop muscle weakness and motoneuron degeneration resembling amyotrophic lateral *** administration of VEGF through several routes to animal models of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis delays motor impairment and motoneuron degeneration and increases life *** are new recent advances in the role of VEGF in the physiology of *** experimental aims use the extraocular(abducens)motoneurons lesioned by axotomy as a model for studying VEGF *** abducens motoneurons exhibit severe alterations in their discharge activity and a loss of synaptic *** exogenous administration of VEGF to axotomized abducens motoneurons,either from the transected nerve or intraventricularly,fully restores the synaptic and discharge properties of abducens motoneurons,despite being *** addition,when an anti-VEGF neutralizing antibody is delivered from the muscle to intact,uninjured abducens motoneurons,these cells display alterations in their discharge pattern and a loss of synaptic boutons that resemble the state of *** these data indicate that VEGF is an essential neurotrophic factor for motoneurons.
