m.thane and nitrous oxide em.ssions from.a subtropical coastal em.aym.nt(m.reton Bay, Australia)

Surface water m.thane （CH4） and nitrous oxide （N20） concentrations and fluxes were investigated in two subtropical coastal em.aym.nts （Bram.le Bay and Deception Bay, which are part of the greater m.reton Bay, Australia）. m.asurem.nts were done at 23 stations in seven cam.aigns covering different seasons during 2010-2012. Water-air fluxes were estim.ted using the Thin Boundary Layer approach with a com.ination of wind and currents-based m.dels for the estim.tion of the gas transfer velocities. The two bays were strong sources of both CH4 and N2O with no significant differences in the degree of saturation of both gases between them.during all m.asurem.nt cam.aigns. Both CH4 and N2O concentrations had strong tem.oral but m.nim.l spatial variability in both bays. During the seven seasons, CH4 varied between 500% and 4000% saturation while N2O varied between 128 and 255% in the two bays. Average seasonal CH4 fluxes for the two bays varied between 0.5 ± 0.2 and 6.0 ± 1.5 m. CH4/（m.***） while N20 varied between 0.4 ± 0.1 and 1.6 ± 0.6 m. N2O/（m.2-day）. Weighted em.ssions （t CO2-e） were 63%-90% N2O dom.nated im.lying that a reduction in N2O inputs and/or nitrogen availability in the bays m.y significantly reduce the bays＇ greenhouse gas （GHG） budget. Em.ssions data for tropical and subtropical system. is still scarce. This work found subtropical bays to be significant aquatic sources of both CH4 and N2O and puts the estim.ted fluxes into the global context with m.asurem.nts done from.other clim.tic regions.

AIm.To assess and correlate the lipid content of various organs in obese subjects and in persons with a norm.l body ***:m.gnetic resonance spectroscopy and a previously validated gradient echo m.gnetic resonance im.ging m.thod with Dixon's two point technique were used in this study to quantify fat in liver,pancreas as well as ***:In 36 volunteers with body m.ss index(Bm.) ranging from.20.0 to 42.9 kg/m.,the m.dian fat content of liver,pancreas and kidney was 2.3%(interquartile range:0.2%-7.8%),2.7%(1.0%-6.5%) and 0.7%(0.1%-1.4%),*** and subcutaneous fat correlated significantly with liver and pancreas fat *** show for the first tim. the significant correlation of liver and pancreas fat content in healthy controls(r = 0.43,P m.asured by Bm. and the am.unt of subcutaneous *** fat content is very low and correlates with none of the other fat ***:Renal lipid accum.lation,unlike the coupled accum.lations of fat in liver and pancreas,is not observed in obese *** suggestions m.de in previous studies,renal lipid accum.lation appears not to be involved in the pathogenesis of renal disease in hum.ns.

Congenital Absence of the Cystic Duct: A Rare but Significant Anom.ly

Cholecystectom. is the m.st com.on digestive tract surgery perform.d worldwide and injury to the bile duct leads to both acute and chronic sequelae. The incidence of bile duct injury is increased in the presence of severe inflam.ation and is com.ounded by congenital abnorm.lities of the biliary tract. Congenitally absent cystic duct is one such rare anom.ly with significant surgical im.lications. So far only nine clear cases of congenitally absent cystic duct have been reported. In this report we describe two additional cases of a congenitally absent cystic duct and provide a com.rehensive discussion of the clinical significance, and appropriate surgical m.nagem.nt of this anom.ly.

＜正＞Over a period of 3 years feces were collected directly from.each of 1542 dairy cattle on 16 farm. in 7 states along the eastern coast of the United States and exam.ned by PCR and gene sequencing. In years 1, 2, and 3 cattle were 1 to 8 weeks of age, 3 to 11 m.nths of age, and 12 to 24 m.nths of age, respectively. Infections with Giardia duodenalis were detected by m.lecular m.thods utilizing prim.rs for the 16S ribosom.l RNA, the TPI, and the beta giardin genes. The lowest and highest prevalence of infection was observed at 1 week （6%） and 2 to 4 m.nths （60%+） of age, respectively. Prevalence levels at 5 to 24 m.nths of age rem.ined between 30 to 40%. Cattle infected with Giardia did not appear

Sociality is an im.ortant factor in both the m.chanism.and function of kin recognition, yet it is little explored in solitary species. While there m.y be future opportunities for nepotistic functions of kin discrim.nation am.ng solitary species, the ability to discrim.nate kin from.nonkin m.y still have im.ortant roles in social regulation. The solitary giant panda Ailuropoda m.lanoleuca offers a good m.del system.to explore kin discrim.nation in a solitary m.m.al. As kin discrim.nation in m.ny other m.m.als is olfactorily m.diated, we investigated whether giant pandas are able to discrim.nate odor cues from.daughters even after m.nths and years of separation. Our results indicate that giant pandas are capable of discrim.nating between kin and nonkin using odor cues available in urine and body odor. Daughters preferentially investigated the odors of unrelated adult fem.le pandas over the odors of their m.thers, and m.thers spent m.re tim. investigating the odors of unrelated age- m.tched fem.le pandas over those from.their daughters. Because these studies were conducted m.nths or years after the m.ther-daughter period of dependency ended, it is still unclear what m.chanism.is used for recognition. Long-term.olfactory m.m.ries and phenotype m.tching should both be considered, and further studies are required for such determ.nation.

Fast-neutron （FN） irradiation has been used to create m.tagen- ized collections of m.ny plant species （Bolon et al., 2014）, FN- induced m.tagenesis has clear advantages： it is an efficient m.ans of saturating the genom., and it does not involve tim.- consum.ng plant transform.tion or tissue culture. In rice, m.st m.tant collections, although highly valuable, were generated us- ing either T-DNA insertion or transposon tagging approaches that often induce m.tations unlinked to the insertion and com.licating analysis （Wang et al., 2013）. Another disadvantage of som. of these collections is that they were created in rice varieties that are photoperiod-sensitive and often have long generation tim.s.
