Evaluation of maize inbred lines and topcross progeny for resistance to pre-harvest aflatoxin contamination

Pre-harvest aflatoxin contamination occurs in maize following kernel colonization by Aspergillus flavus. Aflatoxin contamination resistance is a highly desired trait in maize breeding *** identification of novel sources of resistance to pre-harvest aflatoxin contamination is a major focus in germplasm screening efforts. Here, we performed a field evaluation of 64 inbred lines over two years for pre-harvest aflatoxin contamination. Topcrosses were also performed with two testers, B73 and Mo17, to generate 128 F1 hybrids which were also evaluated over two years. Hybrid performance was used to calculate both general combining ability(GcA) of the inbreds, and observed heterosis for aflatoxin resistance. Over both years of the study, aflatoxin concentrations ranged from 80 ± 47 to 17,617 ± 8816 μg kg^(-1) for inbreds, and from 58 ± 39 to 2771 ± 780 μg kg^(-1) for hybrids with significant variation between years and lines. The inbred lines cML52, cML69, cML247, GT-603, GEMS-0005, Hi63, Hp301, and M37 W showed ccumulation in both years of the study and less than the resistant check, Mp313 E, in at least one season. Among these, cML52, GT-603, and Hi63 also showed significant GcA with the testers in hybrid progeny. cML52, GT-603, and M37 W also showed heterotic effects of-13.64%,-12.47%, and-24.50%, respectively, with B73 resulting in reduced aflatoxin contamination. GT-603 also showed a similar heterotic effect for aflatoxin contamination,-13.11%, with Mo17 indicating that this line may serve as a versatile source of aflatoxin contamination resistance in breeding programs.

Envita’s Precision cancer care: 35-Fold Improvement in Response Rates

New clinical approaches are imperative beyond the widely adopted National comprehensive cancer Network (NccN) guidelines, utilized by prominent cancer institutions. cancer is the leading cause of death among individuals younger than 85 years within the United States. Despite significant technological advances, including the expenditure of hundreds of billions, treatment outcomes and overall survival have not notably improved for most types of advanced cancer over the last several decades. Over the past 24 years, Envita Medical centers has pioneered a unique form of personalized treatment approach for late-stage and refractory cancer patients, introducing groundbreaking innovations in the field. Our integrated algorithm utilizes advanced genomics, transcriptomics, and highly tailored immunotherapy, resulting in remarkable outcome improvements. This study presents Envita’s innovative personalized treatment algorithms and examines the response outcomes of 199 late-stage cancer patients treated at Envita Medical centers over a two-year period. compared to standard of care and palliative chemotherapy, Envita’s treatment demonstrated a remarkable 35-fold improvement in overall response rates (Figure 1). Moreover, 88% of the patients, the majority presenting with Stage 3 or 4 cancer, experienced a 43-fold improvement in quality of life with minimal side effects, as compared to standard of care chemotherapy and palliative care. This revolutionary success is attributed to Envita’s personalized therapeutic algorithms, which incorporate customized immunotherapy. Envita’s precision care approach has also achieved a 100% better response rate compared to over 65 global chemotherapy clinical trials with more than 2700 patients. The results from this study suggest that a wider utilization of Envita’s personalized approach can significantly benefit patients with late-stage and refractory cancer.

Effects of antihypertensives on arterial responses associated with obstructive sleep apneas

Background Many patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) have complicated with hypertension and may be prescribed with antihypertension medications to control their blood pressure But whether antihypertension medications can also decrease arterial stiffness or control the blood pressure increasing following obstructive events is not well described This study aimed to investigate whether antihypertensive medications can ameliorate the changes in arterial stiffness and blood pressure associated with OSA Methods Sixtyone OSAS patients [13 women, 48 men, mean age (534±123) years], 26 normotensive patients (N), 7 hypertensive patients on no antihypertension medications (H), and 28 hypertensive patients on various combination antihypertension therapy (HM), were prospectively diagnosed with standard nocturnal polysomnography Beattobeat blood pressure was continuously recorded from the radial artery by applanation tonometry during baseline sleep As a measure of arterial stiffness, arterial augmentation index (AAI) was calculated as the ratio of augmented systolic blood pressure (SBP) to pulse pressure and expressed as a percentage for the following conditions: awakening, the first 10 ("early apnea") and last 10 ("late apnea") cardiac cycles of obstructive events (apnea or hypopnea), and the first 15 cardiac cycles following event termination ("post apnea") for all events with nadir O2 saturation ≤89% Results Systolic blood pressure (SBP) postapnea [(14274±1306) mmHg (N), (13706±2656) mmHg (H), (13694±141) mmHg (HM)] was significantly increased from awakening [(13576±1476) mmHg (N), (13558±2317) mmHg (H), (12977±1400) mmHg (HM)], early apnea [(13053±1265) mmHg (N), (12447±2497) mmHg (H), (12604±1312) mmHg (HM)], and late apnea [(1298±1268) mmHg(N), (12478±2515) mmHg (H), (12448±1382) mmHg (HM)] respectively (Pcantly increased for the N group (P<0001) from awakening to late

Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging to predict response of hepatocellular carcinoma to chemoembolization

AIM: To investigate whether intra-procedural diffusion- weighted magnetic resonance imaging can predict response of hepatocellular carcinoma (Hcc) during trans- catheter arterial chemoembolization (TAcE). METHODS: Sixteen patients (15 male), aged 59 ±11 years (range: 42-81 years) underwent a total of 21 separate treatments for unresectable Hcc in a hybrid magnetic resonance/interventional radiology suite. Ana- tomical imaging and diffusion-weighted imaging (b = 0, 500 s/mm2) were performed on a 1.5-T unit. Tumor enhancement and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADc, mm2/s) values were assessed immediately before and at 1 and 3 mo after TAcE. We calculated the percent change (Pc) in ADc values at all time points. We compared follow-up ADc values to baseline values using a paired t test (α = 0.05). RESULTS: The intra-procedural sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values (%) for detecting a complete or partial 1-mo tumor response using ADc Pc thresholds of ±5%, ±10%, and ±15% were 77, 67, 91, and 40; 54, 67, 88, and 25; and 46, 100, 100, and 30, respectively. There was no clear predictive value for the 3-mo follow-up. compared to baseline, the immediate post-procedure and 1-mo mean ADc values both increased; the latter obtaining statistical significance (1.48 ± 0.29 mm2/s vs 1.65 ± 0.35 × 10-3 mm2/s, P cONcLUSION: Intra-procedural ADc changes of > 15% predicted 1-mo anatomical Hcc response with the greatest accuracy, and can provide valuable feedback at the time of TAcE.
