文章根据国际微观数据系列整合共享数据库中的13个亚太国家各自多次人口普查微观数据,检测了不同出生队列的小学毕业及以上受教育程度人口所占比例在历次普查之间的一致性。研究发现,中国、越南、蒙古和印度尼西亚4个国家的一致性很高,平均差异不到0.5个百分点,回归系数为0.93~1.07,R^2高达0.99。然而,另外一些国家的一致性较差,有的国家与平均值的绝对差异高达16个百分点。这13个亚太国家的回归系数的变化范围为0.62~1.44,R^2为0.65~0.99。总体而言,这些国家小学及以上受教育程度人口所占比例在各自历次普查中的统计一致性较高。最后,文章就如何专业化地使用数据库中统一整合过的微观数据提出了一些建议。

Role of multi-parametric MRI of the prostate for screening and staging:Experience with over 1500 cases

Objective:Contemporary prostate cancer(PCa)screening modalities such as prostate specific antigen(PSA)and digital rectal examination(DRE)are limited in their ability to predict the detection of clinically significant ***-parametric magnetic resonance imaging(mpMRI)of the prostate has been explored as a staging modality for *** is known regarding its utility as a primary screening *** examined our experience with mpMRI as both a screening and staging ***:mpMRI studies performed between 2012 and 2014 in patients without PCa were cross-referenced with transrectal ultrasonography(TRUS)biopsy *** analyses were performed to determine association of mpMRI findings with overall cancer diagnoses and clinically significant(Gleason score≥7)*** analyses were then performed on patients with a history of prior negative biopsy and those without a history of TRUS *** studies were also cross-referenced with RP *** analyses determined predictive ability of extracapsular extension(ECE),seminal vesicle involvement(SVI),and pathologic evidence of clinically significant disease(Gleason score7).Results:Four hundred biopsy naive or prior negative biopsy patients had positive mpMRI *** sensitivity,specificity,positive and negative predictive values were 94%,37%,58%,and 87%,respectively and 95%,31%,42%,and 93%,respectively for overall cancer detection and Gleason score≥7 *** patients with no prior biopsy history,mpMRI sensitivity,specificity,positive and negative predictive values were 94%,36%,65%,and 82%,for all cancers,and 95%,30%,50%,and 89%for Gleason score7 lesions,*** those with prior negative biopsy sensitivity,specificity,positive and negative predictive values were 94%,37%,52%,and 90% for all cancers,and 96%,32%,36%,and 96% for Gleason score7 lesions,***-four patients underwent radical prostatectomy(RP)after *** size on mpMRI corr

将松乳菇(Lactarius deliciosus)菌丝块人工接种于意大利石松(Pinus pinea)、辐射松(***)、华山松(***)3种宿主植物的幼苗根部合成外生菌根,结果表明:松乳菇与意大利石松、辐射松、华山松均可形成外生菌根,菌根呈二叉状分支,分支末端呈棒状,整体呈鲜黄色至橘黄色。在合成松乳菇菌根过程中发现,杂菌1号可与意大利石松形成外生菌根,菌根呈二叉状分支,分支端细长,呈冠状膨大,菌套表面菌丝呈卷毛状,赭色至黄棕色,颜色随着时间变深棕色;杂菌2号可与华山松形成外生菌根,菌根呈二叉状分支,末端呈球状,浅黄色且半透明状。经ITS序列鉴定杂菌1号为Sphaerosporella sp.,杂菌2号为Peziza ostracoderma。

Higher Groundwater Selenium Exposure Is Associated with Better Memory: A Project FRONTIER Study

Background: Exposure to elements in groundwater (toxic or beneficial) is commonplace yet, outside of lead and mercury, little research has examined the impact of many commonly occurring exposures on mental abilities during the aging process. Selenium has antioxidant properties as part of the glutathione peroxidase system and may have protective effects on memory abilities. Objectives: To investigate the relationship of groundwater selenium exposure to neuropsychological status. Method: Analysis of data from 484 participants (148 men and 336 women) of Project FRONTIER, a community-based participatory research study of the epidemiology of health issues of rural-dwelling adults and elders. Results: Estimated selenium exposure (current and long-term) was specifically related to memory functioning without relation to other neurocognitive domains. The significant, positive link between selenium and memory (Immediate and Delayed) scores held regardless of APOE4 status as well as when the sample was restricted to only those without cognitive dysfunction. Current selenium was also associated with significantly reduced risk of cognitive decline prospectively. Conclusions: Higher selenium levels were associated with better memory functioning as well as reduced risk of cognitive decline among this community-based sample. Given the antioxidant properties of selenium, and the well-documented link between oxidative stress and the development of cognitive dysfunction and Alzheimer’s disease, additional research is necessary to determine the utility of groundwater selenium monitoring as a potential population-wide prevention effort against Alzheimer’s disease.

Depressive Symptom Endorsement among Alzheimer’s Disease, Vascular Dementia and Mild Cognitive Impairment

Background: The Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) is widely used to assess depressive symptoms in clinical and research settings. This study utilized a 4 factor solution for the 30-item GDS to explore differences in the presentation of depressive symptoms in various types of cognitive impairment. Method: Retrospective chart review was conducted on 254 consecutive cases of community dwelling elderly newly diagnosed with mild Alzheimer’s Dementia (AD) n = 122, mild Vascular Dementia (VaD) n = 71 or Amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment (aMCI) n = 32 and Non-Amnestic MCI (nMCI) n = 29. Results: Analysis revealed no significant differences (p 05). No statistically significant differences were found between VaD and nMCI or between the MCI groups. Conclusions: Support is provided for the use of GDS subscales in a wide range of cognitively impaired elderly. This study suggests in mild dementia the number and type of depressive symptoms vary significantly between AD and VaD. There are indications that aMCI patients are similar in their symptom endorsement to AD and nMCI are similar to VaD which is consistent with some of the notions regarding likely trajectories of the respective MCI groups.

Diesel engine exhaust exposures in two underground mines

Exposure to diesel engine exhaust(DE) is a major concern in underground mines. It has been linked to cardiopulmonary diseases and is classified as a human carcinogen. The goal of this study is to assess DE exposures in workers at two underground gold mines, to compare exposure levels within and between the mines, and to compare different methods of measuring DE exposures, namely respirable combustible dust(RCD), elemental carbon(EC) and total carbon(TC). Ambient and personal breathing zone(PBZ) measurements were taken. Side-by-side monitoring of RCD and of the respirable fraction of EC and TC(EC_Rand TC_R) was carried out in the workers' breathing zone during full-shift *** ambient measurements, in addition to EC_R, TC_Rand RCD, a submicron aerosol fraction(less than 1 mm) of EC and TC was also sampled(EC_1and TC_1). Average ambient results of 240 mg/m^3 in RCD, 150 mg/m^3 in EC_Rand 210 mg/m^3 in TC_Rare obtained. Average PBZ results of 190 mg/m^3 in RCD,84 mg/m^3 in EC3Rand 150 mg/min TC_Rare obtained. Very good correlation is found between EC_Rand EC_1 with a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.99(p < 0.01) calculated between the two logtransformed concentrations. No differences are reported between EC_Rand EC_1, nor between TC_Rand TC_1, since ratios are equal to 1.04, close to 1, in both cases. Highest exposures are reported for loadhaul-dump(LHD) and jumbo drill operators and conventional miners. Significant exposure differences are reported between mines for truck and LHD operators(p < 0.01). The average TC_R/EC_Rratio is 1.6 for PBZ results, and 1.3 for ambient results. The variability observed in the TC_R/EC_Rratio shows that interferences from non-diesel related organic carbon can skew the interpretation of results when relying only on TC data.

Effect of losing a fight on later agonistic behavior toward unfamiliar conspecifics in male Syrian hamsters

In many species, agonistic interactions result in social relationships that are stable over time. In Syrian hamsters, two unfamiliar males that are placed together will fight vigorously and a clear winner/loser relationship is usually established. In subsequent interactions, the loser will flee soon after detecting the familiar winner. Here we tested the hypothesis that losing a fight with a conspecific will affect future agonistic interactions not only toward that individual （i.e., the familiar winner） but also toward unfamiliar conspecifics. To test this hypothesis we paired two Syrian hamster males in three trials on one day in which the loser had tile opportunity to escape the winner. The next day the loser was paired with an unfarniliar male, also for three trials. If he lost again, he was tested on a third day with a third unfamiliar male. Subjects were those males that were losers on all three days. The latency to escape on the first trial on Days 2 and 3 was significantly shorter than on the first trial on Day l, indicating that losing against the first male affected the response toward unfamiliar males. However, the latency to escape on the first trial on Days 2 and 3 was significantly longer than that on the third trial on the preceding day, indicating that a loser treats unfamiliar males differently than a familiar winner. These results suggest that a defeat during an interaction with one male affects later agonistic behavior towards other, unfamiliar males [Current Zoology 57 （4）： 449-452, 2011].
