The Paraiba do Sul(PSR)and Guandu Rivers(GR)water diversion system(120 km long)is located in the main industrial pole of Brazil and supplies drinking water for 9.4 million people in the metropolitan region of Rio de *** study aims to discern the trace metals dynamics in this complex aquatic *** used a combined approach of geochemical tools such as geochemical partitioning,Zn isotopes signatures,and multivariate *** and Pb concentrations in Suspended Particulate Matter(SPM)and sediments were considerably higher in some *** sediment partition of As,Cr,and Cu revealed the residual fraction(F4)as the main fraction for these elements,indicating low *** and Pb were mostly associated with the exchangeable/carbonate(F1)and the reducible(F2)fractions,respectively,implying a higher susceptibility of these elements to being released from *** isotopic compositions of sediments and SPM fell in a binary mixing source process between lithogenic(δ^(66/64)Zn_(JMC)≈+0.30‰)and anthropogenic(δ^(66/64)Zn_(JMC)≈+0.15‰)end *** lighterδ^(66/64)Zn_(JMC)values accompanied by high Zn concentrations in exchangeable/carbonate fraction(ZnF1)enable the tracking of Zn anthropogenic sources in the studied ***,the results indicated that Hg,Pb,and Zn had a dominant anthropogenic origin linked to the industrial activities,while As,Cr,and Cu were mainly associated with lithogenic *** work demonstrates how integrating geochemical tools is valuable for assessing geochemical processes and mixing source effects in anthropized river watersheds.

Through complex mechanisms that guide axons to the appropriate routes towards their targets, axonal growth and guidance lead to neuronal system formation. These mechanisms establish the synaptic circuitry necessary for the optimal performance of the nervous system in all organisms. Damage to these networks can be repaired by neuroregenerative processes which in turn can re-establish synapses between injured axons and postsynaptic terminals. Both axonal growth and guidance and the neuroregenerative response rely on correct axonal growth and growth cone responses to guidance cues as well as correct synapses with appropriate targets. With this in mind, parallels can be drawn between axonal regeneration and processes occurring during embryonic nervous system development. However, when studying parallels between axonal development and regeneration many questions still arise; mainly, how do axons grow and synapse with their targets and how do they repair their membranes, grow and orchestrate regenerative responses after injury. Major players in the cellular and molecular processes that lead to growth cone development and movement during embryonic development are the Soluble N-ethylamaleimide Sensitive Factor （NSF） Attachment Protein Receptor （SNARE） proteins, which have been shown to be involved in axonal growth and guidance. Their involvement in axonal growth, guidance and neuroregeneration is of foremost importance, due to their roles in vesicle and membrane trafficking events. Here, we review the recent literature on the involvement of SNARE proteins in axonal growth and guidance during embryonic development and neuroregeneration.

Living microtissues are used in a multitude of applications as they more closely resemble native tissue physiology,as compared to 2D *** are typically composed of a combination of cells and materials in varying combinations,which are dictated by the applications’design *** applications range wide,from fundamental biological research such as differentiation studies to industrial applications such as cruelty-free meat ***,their translation to industrial and clinical settings has been hindered due to the lack of scalability of microtissue production *** microfluidic processes provide an opportunity to overcome this limitation as they offer higher throughput production rates as compared to traditional batch techniques,while maintaining reproducible control over microtissue composition and *** this review,we provide a comprehensive overview of the current approaches to engineer microtissues with a focus on the advantages of,and need for,the use of continuous processes to produce microtissues in large ***,an outlook is provided that outlines the required developments to enable large-scale microtissue fabrication using continuous processes.

Influence of variables related to soil weathering on the geomechanical performance of tropical soils

This paper presents an experimental and analytical investigation of the influence of variables related to soil weathering on the geomechanical performance of sand-silt mixtures containing lateritic soils,*** weathered tropical soils with the influence of interparticle *** sand-silt mixtures containing different relative proportions between uniform sand and lateritic soil were produced,and geomechanical soil characterization tests were *** on the results,a transition from a primarily coarse-to a fine-grained prevailing soil structure was found to cause considerable impact on the geomechanical performance of these soils,as evidenced by design variables related to soil mineralogy and size distribution ***,fines contents of both individual soil particles and soil aggregations were found to correlate with experimental results,while the relative proportion between sesquioxides(aluminum,and iron oxides),and silica,***-silica ratios(SSR^(-1)),facilitated estimates concerning changes in geomechanical ***,the application of the sandsilt mixtures containing lateritic soil on soil walls reinforced with polymeric strips was also evaluated,further emphasizing the potential advantages of adopting variables related to soil weathering on design guidelines concerning tropical soils.

The roots of the vegetal Curcuma due to its high content of polyphenols,has been used successfully in several clinical *** review assessed the effect of curcumin/Curcuma longa on symptoms and metabolic changes in inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).A systematic review of animal models and randomized clinical trials(RCTs)was conducted by searching the following electronic databases:PubMed,CENTRAL,LILACS,Science Direct,and *** 997 found records,62 were *** than 90%of the animal studies reported an improvement in macroscopic,histologic and/or functional activity;80%identified decreased oxidative and/or inflammatory biomarkers in animals treated with *** the RCTs,intention-to-treat analysis showed that oral curcumin was effective in inducing clinical remission(n=281,RR:3.15 CI 95%[1.22–8.10]p=0.0017;i2=72.2%,p=0.006)and clinical response(n=259,RR:1.60 CI 95%[1.09–2.35]p=0.0017;i2=59.7%,p=0.042)but not endoscopic remission(n=161,RR:2.91 CI 95%[0.58–14.58]p=0.195;i2=72.7%,p=0.026).These results confirm that oral supplementation with curcumin/Curcuma longa has beneficial actions in animal colitis and,when associated with drug therapy,is effective in the treatment of patients with IBD.

Hypercalcaemia and leukocytosis are two paraneoplastic conditions associated with poor *** carcinoma is a rare and aggressive histological subtype of lung cancer consisting of adenocarcinoma and squamous cell *** report the case of a 57-year-old male smoker who was admitted to the Emergency Room with skull and neck tumefactions,confusion and deteriorated general *** complementary study in the ER revealed severe hypercalcaemia(19.8 mg/dL),leukocytosis(18.7×10^(9)/L)and extensive osteolytic lesions of the skull on cranioencephalic computer tomography(CT).The patient was stabilized and *** CT showed lung parenchyma consolidation with necrotic areas,supra and infradiaphragmatic adenopathies and scattered osteolytic *** lymph node biopsy was consistent with metastasis of adenosquamous lung *** patients’clinical situation evolved unfavourably after hospital-acquired *** case is characterized by a rare presentation of advanced stage adenosquamous lung carcinoma with scattered osteolytic lesions and severe hypercalcaemia-leukocytosis syndrome,an underrecognized marker of poor prognosis.
