Objective: This study a.med to explore the rela.ion between bone minera. density (BMD), infla.ma.ion, corona.y risk fa.tors, a.d Insulin growth fa.tor (IGF) in fra.l elderly. Design: a.ca.econtrol study. Setting: a.n Sha.s University Hospita. Ca.ro, Egypt. Pa.ticipa.ts: Ninety a.ed 60 yea.s a.d a.ove;sixty fra.l (30 ma.es a.d 30 fema.es;mea. a.e 70.03 ± 8.10) a.d thirty ma.ched controls (15 ma.es a.d 15 fema.es;mea. a.e 69.07 ± 5.93). Mea.urements: History, exa.ina.ion, comprehensive geria.ric a.sessment, mea.urement of BMD, a.d la.ora.ory investiga.ions including;high sensitivity C-rea.tive protein (hs-CRP) glyca.ed ha.moglobin, IGF, lowdensity lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein, tota. cholesterol, a.d triglycerides. Results: The fra.l group ha. significa.tly lower levels of triglycerides a.d LDL, hs-CRP a.d glyca.ed ha.moglobin levels were significa.tly higher (P a.d BMD a.d IGF levels were significa.tly lower when compa.ed with the control group (P a.so found tha. BMD ha. a.significa.t positive linea. correla.ion with IGF a.d nega.ive correla.ion with a.e. Conclusion: Fra.lty wa. a.socia.ed with low BMD, lower triglycerides & LDL levels, a.d higher hsCRP levels. a.borderline significa.ce wa. found between IGF levels a.d fra.lty. a.positive correla.ion wa. found between BMD a.d IGF in fra.l.

Subjects a.d Methods: a.tota. number of 104 elderly pa.ients (a.ove 60 yea.s old) were included in this study a.d they were subjected to a.comprehensive geria.ric a.sessment (CGa. including: (history a.d full clinica. exa.ina.ion, Mini menta. sta.us exa.ina.ion (MMSE), Geria.ric depression sca.e (GDS), a.tivities of da.ly living (a.L), Instrumenta. a.tivities of da.ly living (Ia.L). The pa.ients were divided into fra.l a.d non-fra.l groups using Fried’s criteria.a. a.plied by a.ila.Funes et a.., 2008, ea.h group included 52 pa.ients. Results: There were no significa.t differences between the two groups rega.ding a.e gender or smoking ha.its. But there wa. higher percenta.e of a.L, Ia.L dependence in a.dition to higher incidence of depression a.d cognitive impa.rment a.ong fra.l ca.es. Conclusion: Comprehensive geria.ric a.sessment ca. be used to detect fra.lty a.d its a.socia.ed impa.rment a.d comorbidities.

The a.m of this work is to a.sess the a.socia.ion between the levels of homocystiene a.d C-rea.tive protein a.d fra.lty a.d to exa.ine the a.ility of homocystiene a. a.new ma.ker to detect fra.lty. Subjects a.d Methods: a.tota. number of 104 elderly subjects (a.ove 60 yea.s old) were included in this study a.d they were subjected to history, exa.ina.ion, comprehensive geria.ric a.sessment, a.d la.ora.ory investiga.ions including: C-rea.tive protein (CRP) a.d Homocystiene (Hcy). The pa.ients were divided into fra.l a.d non-fra.l groups using Fried’s criteria.a. a.plied by a.ila.Funes et a.., 2008 a.d ea.h group included 52 pa.ients. Results: There wa. no significa.t difference between the two groups a. rega.ds a.e gender or smoking ha.its. But there were higher levels of CRP (>10 mg/dl) a.d homocystiene (>12 mmol/l) a.ong fra.l ca.es a.d by compa.ing both homocystiene wa. more sensitive in detection of fra.lty. Conclusion: Fra.lty wa. a.socia.ed with eleveted homocystiene a.d CRP a.d homocystiene is more specific tha. CRP in detection of fra.lty.
