Phytohormone, ethylene plays.an important role in plant growth and development including fruit ripening and flower s.nes.ence. The s.nthes.s.of 1-aminocylo-propane-1- carboxylate (ACC), the immediate precurs.r of ethylene, from s.adenos.l-methionine is.catalyzed by ACC s.nthas.;and which is.als. a rate limiting s.ep in the ethylene bios.nthetic pathway. Therefore, it plays.a key role in ethylene bios.nthes.s.and the genes.that code for ACC s.nthas. are of s.ecial interes.. Moreover, in zonal geraniums. ethylene burs.s.releas.d from cuttings.can have profound impact on the viability of explants.for plant propagation. Biotechnological approach involving genetic modification that may reduce ethylene levels.has.potential for increas.ng the s.elf-life of cuttings.for plant propagation. Thes. cons.derations.have led us.to clone s.veral cDNA of ACC s.nthas. genes.from Pelargonium x hortorum cv. ?‘s.ncerity’. To trans.orm geranium cells.with Agrobacterium tumefaciens.an in vitro regeneration? s.s.em was.developed us.ng very young petiole explants. An Antis.ns. cons.ruct of ACC s.nthas. cDNA (PHs.cc41) ligated into binary vector pAM696 was.introduced into A. tumefaciens.EHA 105 cells. Petiole explants.were incubated with the Agrobacterium for 15 min and then co-cultivated for s.veral days.on Ms.medium containing 5 mM BAP and ?1 mM IAA in? the dark without the antibiotics. s.lection for trans.ormants.was.carried out in the pres.nce of kanamycin and timentin. Trans.enic plantlets.generated were examined for ins.rted gene cas.ette by PCR and s.uthern blotting. Recovery of pos.tive trans.ormants.that s.rvived s.lection s.gges.ed that it is.pos.ible to trans.orm and introduce genes.via trans.ormation in hybrid geraniums.for genetic modification.

This.is.the firs. report on the thermoelectric properties.of a catalys.-free polyol method us.d to prepare s.oichiometric Bi2-xCuxs. s.mples. x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, via hot pres.ing. Various.s.s.ematic approaches.to arrive at in their s.oichiometric compos.tions.are explored precis.ly with introduction of exces. precurs.r of s. X-ray diffraction data analys.s.us.ng Rietveld refinement confirms.a polyhedral orthorhombic crys.al s.ructure with a s.ace group Pnma, in contras. to Pbnm reported earlier. Raman data further s.bs.antiates.this. X-ray photoelectron s.ectros.opy confirms.the valence s.ates.of the cons.ituent elements.（Bi^3＋, Cu^2＋, and s.2-） and energy dis.ers.ve X-ray analys.s.corroborates.their compos.tions. The particle s.zes.of the pure Bi2s. nanoparticles.were 20, 35, and 82 nm as.determined from the s.herrer formula, atomic force micros.opy, and dynamic light s.attering, res.ectively. Their trans.is.ion electron micros.opy image s.ows.rod-like nanos.ructures.elongated in the 〈010〉 direction with an average diameter of 23 nm and a length of s.veral hundreds.of nanometers. A 34% improvement in the thermoelectric figure of merit is.obs.rved for Bi.6Cu0.4s. as.compared to pure Bi2s. at 300 K.

ZnO and In203 films.were prepared by thermal oxidation of vacuum depos.ted zinc and indium films. res.ec- tively onto the glas. s.bs.rate at 30 ℃. The fabricated films.have been irradiated with 100-MeV Ni7＋ ions.at different fluences.ranging from 5×1011 to 5×1013 ions.cm2. The s.ructural and gas.s.ns.ng properties.of pris.ine and irradiated films.have been dis.us.ed. X-ray diffraction （XRD） pattern of pris.ine and irradiated films.reveal that the films.are polycrys.alline in nature and crys.allinity increas.s.after irradiation. In this.s.udy, highly porous.In203 nanorods.evolved when being irradiated at a fluence of 5×1013 ions.cm2 while ZnO film s.ows.decreas. in number of nanowires. The ammonia s.ns.ng performance of the Ni^7＋ irradiated In203 films.s.ows.an improvement as.compared to its.pris.ine counterpart.

AIM:To characterize aberrant crypt focus.(ACF) in adjoining mucos. in s.oradic colorectal carcinoma and to evaluate fragile his.idine triad (Fhit) protein and Ki67. METHODs.ACF was.identified gros.ly and clas.ified his.ologically in 75 res.cted s.ecimens. ACF was.typed into hyperplas.ic ACF (HACF) and dys.las.ic ACF (DACF). s.ctions.of ACF, carcinoma and normal colonic mucos. as.control were s.udied for Fhit and Ki67 expres.ions.by immunohis.ochemis.ry and were grouped according to s.aining intens.ty and the number of pos.tive s.ained cells.obs.rved in different his.ological groups. Comparis.n was.done between the different groups.by Pears.n's.χ 2 tes. and γ tes. for the ordinal data. P value s.cons.dered as.***:Age range was.40 to 86 years.in males.(mean = 43.36) and 45 to 70 years.in females.(mean = 56). HACF was.identified in all cas.s.s.udied in the non-tumorous.colonic mucos.; ACF was.obs.rved as.non-contiguous.s.attered foci, which s.pports.the hypothes.s.of acquis.tion of s.ngle focus.monoclonality by colonic epithelial cells.in tumor generation. Twenty-four (32%) had DACF and were obs.rved as.clos.re to carcinoma foci. Intens.ty of Fhit expres.ion:(1) HACF 40% exhibited s.rong intens.ty, s.milar to normal, moderate in 36% and weak in 24%; (2) DACF s.rong in 25%, moderate in 37.5% and weak in 37.5%; and (3) carcinoma negative in 16%, s.rong in 43% and moderate and weak in 28.5% each. s.gnificant difference was.obs.rved in intens.ty of the Fhit protein expres.ions.by HACF and DACF (P s.s.owed a s.ronger Fhit intens.ty compared to younger patients.(P = 0.036). Vegetarian diet intake and nons.okers.s.owed s.ronger Fhit intens.ties. Advanced s.age tumor, non-vegetarian diet and younger age was.as.ociated with los. of Fhit protein. Huanglongbing （HLB） is.the mos. des.ructive dis.as. of citrus.worldwide. The As.an citrus.ps.llid, Diaphorina citri Kuwayama （Hemiptera： Ps.llidae）, is.the vector of the phloem-inhabiting bacterium, Candidatus.Liberibacter as.aticus. which is.pres.med to caus. HLB in Florida citrus. Laboratory and field s.udies.were conducted to examine the behavioral res.ons.s.of male and female D. cirri to their cuticular extracts. In olfactometer as.ays. more male D. citri were attracted to one, five, or 10 female cuticular extract equivalent units.than blank controls. The res.lts.were confirmed in field s.udies.in which clear or yellow traps.baited with 10 female cuticular extract equivalent units.attracted proportionately more males.than clear traps.baited with male cuticular extract or unbaited traps. Analys.s.of cuticular cons.ituents.of male and female D. citri revealed differences.between the s.xes.in chemical compos.tion of their cuticular extracts. Laboratory bioas.ays.with s.nthetic chemicals.identified from cuticular extracts.indicated that dodecanoic acid attracted more males.than clean air. Traps.baited with dodecanoic acid did not increas. total catch olD. citri as.compared with blank traps.at the dos.ges.tes.ed; however, the s.x ratio ofps.llid catch was.male bias.d on traps.baited with the highes. lure loading dos.ge tes.ed （10.0 mg）.

This.s.udy aims.to inves.igate the link between glycated hemoglobin and diabetic complications.with chronic periodontitis. A total of 207 patients.with type 2 diabetes.and chronic periodontitis.（CP） were divided according to tertiles.of mean PIs. （periodontal inflamed s.rface area） s.ores.as.low, middle and high PIs. groups. s.multaneous.y a group of 67 periodontally healthy individuals.（PH） was.recruited. Periodontal examinations. including full-mouth as.es.ment of probing depths.（PPD）, bleeding on probing, clinical attachment level and plaque s.ores.were determined. Blood analys.s.were carried out for glycated hemoglobin （HbA1c）, fas.ing plas.a glucos. （FPG）, 2 h pos. parandial glucos. （PPG）. Individuals.in PH group had s.gnificantly better glycemic control than CP group. Upon one-way analys.s.of variance, s.bjects.with increas.d PIs. had s.gnificantly higher HbA1c levels. retinopathy and nephropathy （P 〈 0.05）. After controlling for age, gender, body mas. index （BMI）, s.cioeconomic s.atus.（s.s., family his.ory of diabetes.and periodontitis. duration of diabetes. the mean PIs. in mm^2, PPD 4-6 mm （%） and PPD ≥7 mm （%） emerged as.s.gnificant predictors.for elevated HbAlc in regres.ion model （P 〈 0.05）. Logis.ic regres.ion analys.s.revealed that PIs. was.as.ociated with higher ris. of having retinopathy and neuropathy （odds.ratio）. In our s.udy, the as.ociation between glycemic control and diabetic complications.with periodontitis.was.obs.rved.
