Combinations of metal and lanthanide oxides have been done through casted films for potential medical applications. In this regard, samarium(Ⅲ) oxide/chromium(Ⅲ) oxide/graphene oxide(GO)/polycaprolactone(PCL) based films nano-composites(NCs) were fabricated, pointing their utilization as a biological scaffold for wound dressing purposes. Also, samarium(Ⅲ) oxide and chromium(Ⅲ) oxide have been merged as promising optical constituents due to their unique optical behavior. The structural and compositional examination of the studied NCs was executed by X-ray diffraction(XRD), Raman, and field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM). The Sm_(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCL NC exhibits a surface with a lower roughness degree owing to the presence of GO. Cr_(2)O_(3)shows size reduction upon GO insertion to reach 1.2 μm as the average grain size, whilst Sm_(2)O_(3)records an average grain size of less than 1 μm. As well, the polymeric nano-compositions exhibit variation in contact angle values that hit 29.76°± 3.52°for Sm_(2)O_(3)/PCL, and 48.62°± 1.37°for Sm_(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCL as the second lowest contact angle. The optical behavior contributes to absorption edge relocation along the x-axis from 1.7 eV for pure PCL, to 2.65 eV for Sm_(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCL. Regarding biological responses, the cell exposed to 2.5 μg/m L of Sm_(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCL shows cell viability of 119.31%, while 5 μg/m L hits 99.6%. Additionally, the resulting cell attachment micrographs show layers of fibroblast tissue, besides the proliferation and growth of cultivated cells. Thus, the Sm_(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCL scaffold provides 3D proliferation of fibroblast cells endorsing the wound healing process.

Infestation and morphological identification of the stalked epizoic barnacle Octolasmis on the blue crab Portunus pelagicus from the Red Sea

The intensity of infestation of the epizoic stalked barnacle Octolasmis on the blue crab was calculated for a total of 180 individuals collected around Jeddah, the western Red Sea Saudi coast. More than 90% of the crabs were found bearing the Octolasmis at a prevalence rate of 92% and mean intensity of 18.5 ? 18.6(0–127 epibiont per host). The intensity of infestation increased with host size in the range 90–135 mm. Generally, females were more infested(69%) than the males(31%). Octolasmis angulata occurred mostly on the gills, and the lower side of the gill chambers was more infested(84%) than the upper side(16%) and the left side of gills was also more infested than the right side in both males and females. Further studies are still needed to examine the commensal relationship and its impact on the fishery market of the Red Sea blue crab populations.

Effect of Bohm quantum potential in the propagation of ion–acoustic waves in degenerate plasmas

A theoretical investigation has been carried out on the propagation of the ion–acoustic(IA) waves in a relativistic degenerate plasma containing relativistic degenerate electron and positron fluids in the presence of inertial non-relativistic light ion fluid. The Korteweg-de Vries(K-dV), modified K-dV(m K-dV), and mixed m K-dV(mm K-dV) equations are derived by adopting the reductive perturbation method. In order to analyze the basic features(phase speed, amplitude, width,etc.) of the IA solitary waves(SWs), the SWs solutions of the K-dV, m K-dV, and mm K-d V are numerically analyzed. It is found that the degenerate pressure, inclusion of the new phenomena like the Fermi temperatures and quantum mechanical effects(arising due to the quantum diffraction) of both electrons and positrons, number densities, etc., of the plasma species remarkably change the basic characteristics of the IA SWs which are found to be formed either with positive or negative potential. The implication of our results in explaining different nonlinear phenomena in astrophysical compact objects, e.g.,white dwarfs, neutron stars, etc., and laboratory plasmas like intense laser–solid matter interaction experiments, etc., are mentioned.

Enhancing the spontaneous imbibition rate of water in oil-wet dolomite rocks through boosting a wettability alteration process using carbonated smart brines

Most fractured carbonate oil reservoirs have oil-wet ***,the process of imbibing water from the fractures into the matrix is usually poor or basically does not exist due to negative capillary *** achieve appropriate ultimate oil recovery in these reservoirs,a water-based enhanced oil recovery method must be capable of altering the wettability of matrix *** studies showed that carbonated water can alter wettability of carbonate oil-wet rocks toward less oil-wet or neutral wettability conditions,but the degree of modification is not high enough to allow water to imbibe spontaneously into the matrix blocks at an effective *** this study,we manipulated carbonated brine chemistry to enhance its wettability alteration features and hence to improve water imbibition rate and ultimate oil recovery upon spontaneous imbibition in dolomite ***,the contact angle and interfacial tension(IFT)of brine/crude oil systems were measured for several synthetic brine samples with different ***,two solutions with a significant difference in WAI(wettability alteration index)but approximately equal brine/oil IFT were chosen for spontaneous imbibition *** the next step,spontaneous imbibition experiments at ambient and high pressures were conducted to evaluate the ability of carbonated smart water in enhancing the spontaneous imbibition rate and ultimate oil recovery in dolomite *** results showed that an appropriate adjustment of the imbibition brine(i.e.,carbonated smart water)chemistry improves imbibition rate of carbonated water in oil-wet dolomite rocks as well as the ultimate oil recovery.

Biochemical methane potential of three-phase olive mill solid waste:Influence of temperature and supplemental enzymes

Methane potential of three-phase olive mill solid waste(3POMSW)was evaluated by biochemical methane potential(BMP)tests at temperatures of 37.5◦C and 55◦*** results have shown,that thermophilic processing has a higher methane and biogas yield by 10%and 17.2%,respectively,compared to mesophilic *** thermophilic conditions of 3POMSW results in higher conversion of the feedstock into *** result of addition of enzymes(MethaPlus,Hemicellulase,PectinaseL,Amylase S and Lipase)and their mixtures to 3POMSW at 55◦C has shown that the optimum mixture of enzymes was Metha Plus and Hemicellulase,which resulted in an increase of methane yield by 1.3%compared to the base case without addition of *** model equations were developed based on first-order kinetic in order to calculate the biogas yield versus the time as a function of reaction rate constant(k)and the maximum biogas yield(ymax).In this study,results have shown two different reaction rates obtained for the mixtures of enzymes with 3POMSW of 0.130 d^(-1) from t=0…14 days and 0.034 d^(-1) from t=28…63 *** developed simple model equations can be applied for calculating the biogas yield at the time and by optimizing the process improving biological nutrient removal.

Enhancement of methane yield from cotton stalks by mechanical pre-treatment

Cotton stalks(CS)are lignocellulosic agricultural by-products,a potential source for biogas production,but pretreatment must be considered since hydrolysis is the rate-limiting stage for lignocellulosic biomass *** study investigates the feasibility of mechanical pretreatment of CS to enhance methane *** anaerobic digestion of CS samples with particle sizes ranging from 0.5 to 65 mm was carried out in 1 L eudiometer batch digesters for 48 days at 37◦*** showed that methane yield was inversely proportional to particle size,and the quality of biogas was good(54.0-55.2%CH_(4)).Significant increases in methane yield were observed with 20.3%and 26%for samples with a particle size of 3 mm and 0.5 mm,respectively,compared to untreated *** coefficient of anaerobic energy turnover was relatively low(20.2-25.5%).Reduction of the CS particle size to 3 mm or less is recommended to achieve effective methane conversion and decrease the retention time in an anaerobic digester from 31 to about 25 ***,to offset the high energy demand required for grinding,further research should be conducted in combining size reduction with chemical and physicochemical pretreatment.

Hydrothermal carbonization(HTC)of biomass is a promising method to produce carbonaceous *** work presented in this article addresses the application of hydrothermal carbonization(HTC)to produce a solid fuel named HTC-Biochar,whose characteristics are comparable to lignite *** sludge(SD),maize silage(MS),and barley silage(BS)as a substrates were hydrothermally carbonized in a 1.5 L batch reactor at 200C for 6 *** effect of mixing ratios of different substrates on HTC was *** compositions and combustion characteristics of hydro-chars obtained from mono-and co-carbonization were *** showed that HTC increased carbon contents and higher heating values(HHV)by 1.4–14.4%and 13–36%,*** evolution of the H/C and O/C atomic ratios indicated that dehydration and decarboxylation occurred during hydrothermal carbonization for all ***,a significant synergistic enhancement was observed for HHV and carbon content.A mixing ratio of 1:1 for BS and SD showed the best performance for *** summary,hydrothermal co-carbonization is a promising strategy to tailor high-performance hydro-char for energy applications.

Dynamic light scattering(DLS)is a promising technique for early cataract detection and for studying cataractogenesis.A novel probabilistic analysis tool,the sparse Bayesian learning(SBL)algorithm,is described for reconstructing the most-probable size distribution ofα-crystallin and their aggregates in an ocular lens from the DLS *** performance of the algorithm is evaluated by analyzing simulated correlation data from known distributions and DLS data from the ocular lenses of a fetal calf,a Rhesus monkey,and a man,so as to establish the required efficiency of the SBL algorithm for clinical studies.

Cylindrical and Spherical Electron-Acoustic Shock Waves in Electron-Positron-Ion Plasmas with Nonextensive Electrons and Positrons

Electron-acoustic shock waves （EASWs） in an unmagnetized four-component plasma （containing hot elec- trons and positrons following the q-nonextensiv.e distribution, cold mobile viscous electron fluid, and immobile positive ions） are studied in nonplanar （cylindrical and spherical） geometry. With the help of the reductive perturbation method, the modified Burgers equation is derived. Analytically, the effects of nonplanar geometry, nonextensivity, relative number density and temperature ratios, and cold electron kinematic viscosity on the basic properties （viz. amplitude, width, speed, etc.） of EASWs are discussed. It is exarmined that the EASWs in nonplanar geometry significantly differ from those in planar geometry. The results of this investigation can be helpful in understanding the nonlinear features of EASWs in various astrophysical plasmas.

Designing Genetic Regulatory Networks Using Fuzzy Petri Nets Approach

In this paper, we have successfully presented a fuzzy Petri net （FPN） model to design the genetic regulatory network. Based on the FPN model, an efficient algorithm is proposed to automatically reason about imprecise and fuzzy information. By using the reasoning algorithm for the FPN, we present an alternative approach that is more promising than the fuzzy logic. The proposed FPN approach offers more flexible reasoning capability because it is able to obtain results with fuzzy intervals rather than point values. In this paper, a novel model with a new concept of hidden fuzzy transition （HFT） to design the genetic regulatory network is developed. We have built the FPN model and classified the input data in terms of time point and obtained the output data, so the system can be viewed as the two-input and one output system. This method eliminates possible false predictions from the classical fuzzy model thereby allowing a wider search space for inferring regulatory relationship. The experimental results show the proposed approach is feasible and acceptable to design the genetic regulatory network and investigate the dynamical behaviors of gene network.
