Dengue is a global health problem without current specific treatment nor safe vaccines *** severe dengue is related to pre-existing non-neutralizing dengue virus(DENV)antibodies,the role of T cells in protection or pathology is *** cutaneous DENV infection in immunocompetent mice we previously showed the generation of PNA+germinal centers(GCs),now we assessed the activation and proliferation of B and T cells in draining lymph nodes(DlNs).We found a drastic remodelling of DlN compartments from 7 to 14 days post-infection(dpi)with greatly enlarged B cell follicles,occupying almost half of the DlN area compared to*24%in na?ve *** clusters of proliferating(Ki-67+)cells inside B follicles were found 14 dpi,representing*33%of B cells in DlNs but only*2%in noninfected *** GCs,we noticed an important recruitment of tingle body macrophages removing apoptotic *** contrast,the percentage of paracortex area and total T cells decreased by 14–16 dpi,compared to *** randomly distributed Ki-67+T cells were found,similar to non-infected ***69 expression by CD4+and CD8+T cells was minor,while it was remarkable in B cells,representing 1764.7%of change from basal levels 3 *** apparent lack of T cell responses cannot be attributed to apoptosis since no significant differences were observed compared to noninfected *** study shows massive B cell activation and proliferation in DlNs upon DENV *** contrast,we found very poor,almost absent CD4+and CD8+T cell responses.

Oil production and mainte nance are essential issues in naturally fractured reservoirs because they are the largest and most productive on ***,they present early water and gas channeling but could be remediated by using foaming agents to control these phenomena through blocking channeling *** Mexico these reservoirs have pressure up to 5,500 psi,high temperature up to 200℃,salinity up to400,000 ppm,and hardness up to 250,000 ppm;due to these thermodynamic conditions,there has been no available technology to form stable enough *** this work,a foaming supramolecular surfactant with the capability to chelate Ca^(2+)ions is *** a result,surfactant monomers are bridged by captured Ca^(2+)cations leading to the formation of high-molecular-weight oligomers,which significantly increment the viscosity of the solution improving the foam stability,and since at this manner the Ca2+cations are no longer available to precipitate as components of solid salts,the foaming supramolecular surfactant also performs as *** observations are explained through quantum theoretical *** foam is stable,effectively blocking the gas channels,whereas in presence of oil the foam is broken leading the oil to pass into the *** characteristic rheological properties of the foam allow its injection into the formation at a range of flow rates,foam qualities,and shear stress to achieve the flooding and the blocking of a variety of fractured carbonate formations,and the change of the wettability of the matrix,which is a desirable behavior in a huff and puff process,as reported in a previous publication about a successful pilot test of this foam.

Statistical data driven approach of COVID-19 in Ecuador: R_(0) and R_(t) estimation via new method

The growth of COVID-19 pandemic throughout more than 213 countries around the world have put a lot of pressures on governments and health services to try to stop the rapid expansion of the *** 2009,H1N1 Influenza pandemic,statistical and mathematical methods were used to track how the virus spreads around *** of these models that were developed at the beginning of the XXI century are based on the classical susceptible-infected-recovered(SIR)model developed almost a hundred years *** evolution of this model allows us to forecast and compute basic and effective reproduction numbers(R_(t) and R_(0)),measures that quantify the epidemic potential of a pathogen and estimates different *** this study,we present a traditional estimation technique for R_(0) with statistical distributions by best fitting and a Bayesian approach based on continuous feed of prior distributions to obtain posterior distributions and computing real time R_(t).We use data from COVID-19 officially reported cases in Ecuador since the first confirmed case on February *** of the lack of data,in the case of R_(0) we compare two methods for the estimation of these parameters below exponential growth and maximum likelihood *** do not make any assumption about the evolution of cases due to limited information and we use previous methods to compare scenarios about R_(0) and in the case of R_(t) we used Bayesian inference to model uncertainty in contagious proposing a new modification to the well-known model of Bettencourt and Ribeiro based on a time window of m days to improve *** R_(0) with exponential growth criteria was 3.45 and with the maximum likelihood estimation method was *** results show that Guayas,Pichincha and Manabíwere the provinces with the highest number of cases due to *** reasons explain the increased transmissibility in these localities:massive events,population density,cities dispersion patterns,and

Energy Expenditure Differs between Black and White Americans: Implications for Obesity Prevention Research

Objective: To assess differences in energy expenditure by race and ethnicity using nationally representative data. Results: We confirmed that Blacks exhibit lower resting energy expenditure than Whites—a difference of approximately 150 to 300 fewer kilocalories per day. This finding was significant in each permutation of our analysis—from the simple association of race and resting energy expenditure to our final regression model adjusted for common confounders (i.e. age, gender, income, and education), body fat content, diabetes, thyroid dysfunction, and weight loss in previous year. Further, we found that energy intake did not differ significantly between Blacks and Whites whereas Blacks were found to expend significantly more energy voluntarily than Whites. Blacks and Whites did not differ significantly in bodyweight, though Blacks were found to be leaner than Whites as evidenced by significantly lower body fat content in the former. Discussion: Our findings suggest that if rates of obesity are to be reduced in Black Americans, recommendations would need to encourage lower levels of average energy intake and higher levels of activity energy expenditure than extant in the general populace. In short, Blacks would need to adopt more austere lifestyle regimens relative to the general populace in order to reduce their rate of obesity below present levels.

Use of High Definition Multileaf Colimator for the Treatment of Trigeminal Neuralgia

In the present work, a treatment technique for trigeminal neuralgia (TN) using lINAC radiosurgery is shown. The technique is based on the optimization of ten static arcs in such a way as to minimize the overlapping of the treatment fields with the brainstem. We will call this technique brainstem-optimized (BO). The results are compared with another technique described in the literature known as a virtual cone (VC). The comparison of dosimetry results that have been carried out essentially shows that the doses in the brainstem V12Gy-brainstem, D0.5cm3-brainstem and D0.035 cm3-brainstem are lower in the BO versus VC technique, and with the parameters V50% (whole brain) and V12Gy-cerebrum higher in BO versus VC. Our goal is to keep the dose to the brainstem as low as possible and, if possible, at most between 12 Gy and 15 Gy. The BO technique meets our purposes and is considered clinically acceptable at our institution.

landscape Structural Indicators as a Tool to Assess land Use Changes in Planning for Sub-Basin Sustainability (Southeastern Brazil)

land use is shaped by the interactions between nature and society, and these interactions can inhibit environmental sustainability and deplete the natural capital that provides the ecosystem services upon which humans depend. Urbanity Index and landscape Vulnerability Indicator have been proposed to improve the impact interpretability of land use changes on sub-basin sustainability for local scenarios of biodiversity conservation. A time series of landSat 5 Thematic Mapper remote sensing data from São Carlos municipality, Southeastern Brazil, for the years 1989, 2004 and 2014 revealed that land use changes in the sub-basins do not take place in a progressive and gradual way. Over the 25-year period, the main trends showed the loss and increase of forest cover so that it has remained quantitatively similar over time due to reduced agricultural land use. The aggregation of both indicators enabled the identification of greater naturalness and lower vulnerability, as well as lower naturalness and higher vulnerability under local sub-basin conditions, pointing the need for different strategies for sub-basin biodiversity conservation and sustainability. These preliminary scenarios provide a way to communicate problems of environmental sustainability at different landscape scales to the scientific community as well as to planners, policy makers and the broader public.

Dual-Delay-Path Ring Oscillator with Self-Biased Delay Cells for Clock Generation

This work summarizes the structure and operating features of a high-performance 3-stage dual-delay-path (DDP) voltage-controlled ring oscillator (VCRO) with self-biased delay cells for Phase-locked loop (Pll) structurebased clock generation and digital system driving. For a voltage supply VDD = 1.8 V, the resulting set of performance parameters include power consumption PDC = 4.68 mW and phase noise PN@1MHz = -107.8 dBc/Hz. From the trade-off involving PDC and PN, a system level high performance is obtained considering a reference figure-of-merit ( FoM = -224 dBc/Hz ). Implemented at schematic level by applying CMOS-based technology (UMC l180), the proposed VCRO was designed at Cadence environment and optimized at MunEDA WiCkeD tool.

Agriculture and Forest Transition: Understanding of land Use Change in a Cultural landscape

land use trajectory analysis provides both the time and kind of land cover changes to monitor land use dynamics. land cover change trajectories for three different dates (1965, 1989 and 2014) extracted from satellite images by vectorization of the thematic information were studied This study was carried out on a cultural landscape (S?o Carlos municipality, SP, Brazil) with three major land use-cover classes (forest, agriculture and other uses). The results showed the spatio temporal variability of landscape pattern and forest and agriculture change trajectories. Analysis based on these landscape trajectories demonstrates that agriculture and forest cover changes have been caused by human activities. The results reflect the conflicting interactions between environmental and human systems in the study area. A key question is that the pressure exerted on forest land use-cover depends on the incentives that move society from a conflicting relation with a municipal territory. A more sustainable landscape transition and trajectory for S?o Carlos municipality are extremely dependent on the regulatory role of the government through strategies related to the implementation of specific categories of legally protected areas (legal Reserves and Areas of Permanent Preservation).

Introduction: Macular edema is the main cause of low vision in diabetic patients. Laser photocoagulation continues to be the treatment of choice in conjunction with the use of steroids and anti-angiogenics, but these treatments include possible ocular complications. The nutritional supplement Alzer (whose primary active ingredient is Ginkgo biloba, a powerful antioxidant that acts on vascular factors and oxidative damage, which are two of the mechanisms implicated in the pathogenesis of diabetic macular edema), which has been used on other non-diabetic macular conditions, along with the Diamel nutritional supplement has been shown to be effective on glycemic control and could represent a treatment alternative for mild to moderate macular edema by reducing the thickness of the macular retina and preventing the progression of other more advanced clinical presentations that are harder to treat. Objective: Identify the effect of Alzer along with Diamel in reduction of the thickness of the macular retina among patients with mild to moderate diabetic macular edema. Materials and Methods: A phase II double-blind clinical trial was conducted in 64 patients with non-severe diabetic macular edema over the course of non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy, who attended the ophthalmology service of the Institute of Endocrinology of Havana from January 2016 to December 2016.
