The paper studies the propagation of torsional surface waves in an initially stressed anisotropic poro-elastic layer over a semi-infinite heterogeneous half space with linearly varying rigidity and density due to irregularity at the interface. The irregularity is taken in the half space in the form of a rectangle. It is observed that torsional surface waves propagate in this assumed medium. In the absence of the irregularity, the velocity equation of the torsional surface wave is also obtained. For a layer over a homogeneous half space, the velocity of torsional surface waves coincides with that of the Love waves.

Strong shock wave interactions with ceramic material ceria(CeO_(2))in presence of O_(2)and N2 gases were investigated using free piston driven shock tube(FPST).FPST is used to heat the test gas to very high temperature of about 6800-7700 k(estimated)at pressure of about 6.8-7.2 MPa for short duration(2-4 ms)behind the reflected shock *** is subjected to super heating and cooling at the rate of about 106 k/*** of CeO_(2)sample was done before and after exposure to shock heated test gases(O_(2)and N2).The surface composition,crystal structure,electronic structure and surface morphology of CeO_(2)ceramic were examined using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),X-ray diffraction(XrD),Fourier transform infrared(FTIr)spectrometry,scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and high resolution transmission electron microscopy(HrTEM).results obtained from the experimental investigations show that CeO_(2)can withstand high pressure accompanied by thermal shock without changing its crystal *** CeO_(2)releases lattice oxygen making it possible to shift between reduced and oxidized states upon the interaction with shock heated *** to such reaction mechanism,CeO_(2)ceramic undergoes nitrogen doping with decrease in lattice *** reveal that CeO_(2)retains its crystal structure during strong shock interaction,even at elevated pressure.

The reconfigurable manufacturing system （rMS） is the next step in manufacturing, allowing the production of any quantity of highly customized and complex parts together with the benefits of mass production. In rMSs, parts are grouped into families, each of which requires a specific system configuration. Initially system is configured to produce the first family of parts. Once it is finished, the system will be reconfigured in order to produce the second family, and so forth. The effectiveness of a rMS depends on the formation of the optimum set of part families addressing various recon figurability issues. The aim of this work is to establish a methodology for grouping parts into families for effective working of rMS. The methodology carried out in two phases. In the first phase, the correlation matrix is used as similarity coefficient matrix. In the second phase, agglomerative hier archical kmeans algorithm is used for the parts family for mation resulting in an optimum set of part families for reconfigurable manufacturing system.

The paper presents the effect of a rigid boundary on the propagation of torsional surface waves in a porous elastic layer over a porous elastic half-space using the mechanics of the medium derived by Cowin and Nunziato （Cowin, S. C. and Nunziato, J. W. Linear elastic materials with voids. Journal of Elasticity, 13（2）, 125-147 （1983））. The velocity equation is derived, and the results are discussed. It is observed that there may be two torsional surface wave fronts in the medium whereas three wave fronts of torsional surface waves in the absence of the rigid boundary plane given by Dey et al. （Dey, S., gupta, S., gupta, A. k., kar, S. k., and De, P. k. Propagation of torsional surface waves in an elastic layer with void pores over an elastic half-space with void pores. Tamkang Journal of Science and Engineering, 6（4）, 241-249 （2003））. The results also reveal that in the porous layer, the Love wave is also available along with the torsional surface waves. It is remarkable that the phase speed of the Love wave in a porous layer with a rigid surface is different from that in a porous layer with a free surface. The torsional waves are observed to be dispersive in nature, and the velocity decreases as the oscillation frequency increases.

Zinc oxide （ZnO） thin films were grown on silicon substrate by rF （radio frequency） magnetron *** topography of these films exhibited a nanostructured granular appearance with the size of individual grains between 50 to 100 *** cross-sectional electron micrographs revealed columnar grains in the form of aggregated nanorods/wires with length of about 500 nm,similar to the thickness of these thin films of ZnO nucleated and grown vertically on the silicon *** resolution lattice scale imaging using high resolution transmission electron microscope （HrTEM） elucidated the single crystalline 1010 planes of hexagonal-ZnO constituting the columnar grains with the individual nanorod diameter between 3 and 4 *** photoluminescence measurements showed the prominent emission peak at around 460 nm for the blue band,normally attributed to intrinsic defects in particular interstitial zinc （Zn）.These films were further characterized by X-ray diffraction （XrD）,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIr）,raman spectroscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance （EPr） to evaluate various aspects on preferred growth orientations,band structures and vibrational modes originated in such fascinating nano-grained thin films of *** present investigations inferred that these films are advantageous in various potential applications for fabricating nano-scaled devices.

In this work,a non-classical analytical approach for buckling analysis of partially cracked generally orthotropic plate is proposed under the thermal *** derivation for the governing equation is based on the non-classical approach using kirchhoff’s thin plate theory and the modified couple stress *** effect of fibre orientation on critical buckling temperature is incorporated by considering the coefficients of mutual *** spring model is applied with some modifications to formulate all the crack terms while the thermal effects are introduced in form of thermal in-plane moments and *** final governing equation is solved using Galerkin’s method and the relation for critical buckling temperature as affected by fibre orientation is *** variation of critical buckling temperature as affected by fibre orientation for different values of crack length,crack location and length scale parameter is ***,the effect of fibre orientation on fundamental frequency under the thermal domain is analysed.

Nickel-gamma alumina（Ni—γAI2O3） composite coatings were synthesized by pulsed electrodeposition technique with different concentrations of alumina（0,10,20 and 50 g/L） in Watt’s *** ultrasonic vibration and magnetic-stirring were utilized to disperse Al2O3 and to achieve its optimum *** shows that agglomerates occur at higher loadings,but 10 g/L Al2O3 addition in bath has shown uniform dispersion of alumina with improved mechanical properties such as hardness,Young’s modulus and yield strength by 40%,46%and 35%,respectively,when compared to that of pure Ni ***,elasto-plastic indentation mechanics has shown that strength at 29%strain is enhanced to 110.5 GPa for 10 g/L Al2O3electrophoretically deposited Ni—yAI2O3 coating when compared to that of electrodeposited Ni（81.8 GPa）.

Ancient terrane boundaries as probable seismic hazards: A case study from the northern boundary of the Eastern Ghats Belt, India

In the eastern part of the Indian shield, late Paleozoic-Mesozoic sedimentary rocks of the Talchir Basin lie precisely along a contact of Neoproterozoic age between granulites of the Eastern Ghats Mobile Belt （EGMB） and amphibolite facies rocks of the rengali Province. At present, the northern part of the basin experiences periodic seismicity by reactivation of faults located both within the basin, and in the rengali Province to the north. Detailed gravity data collected across the basin show that Bouguer anomalies decrease from the EGMB （~＋15 mGal）, through the basin （^-10 mGal）, into the rengali Province （^-15 mGal）. The data are consistent with the reportedly uncompensated nature of the EGMB, and indicate that the crust below the rengali Province has a cratonic gravity signature. The contact between the two domains with distinct sub-surface structure, inferred from gravity data, coincides with the North Orissa Boundary Fault （NOBF） that defines the northern boundary of the Talchir Basin. Post-Gondwana faults are also localized along the northern margin of the basin, and present-day seismic tremors also have epicenters close to the NOBF. This indicates that the NOBF was formed by reactivation of a Neo- proterozoic terrane boundary, and continues to be susceptible to seismic activity even at the present-day.
